Legacy Environmental Club State Recognition

The Legacy High School Environmental Club has received the Texas Association for Environmental Education Student Chapter Award, recognising the club programme of student-led environmental projects whose scope and impact the state association has evaluated as among the most significant of any high school environmental programme in the state.

The Programme

The Legacy Environmental Club programme includes: the campus composting project that has diverted approximately 2,400 pounds of organic waste from the landfill in the current school year; the creek cleanup project that has removed debris from the specific stretch of the creek adjacent to the school campus; and the environmental education sessions that the club members have delivered to the elementary school students in the feeder schools. The state award recognises the specific combination of the campus programme, the community engagement, and the educational outreach.

The Legacy Environmental Club leadership team of 12 officers has coordinated the specific programmes that the state award recognised.
