League of Legends is one of the most popular video games in the world with a large player base and big eSports scene. However, the game is complex and challenging to master. Many players struggle with learning the game mechanics, roles, meta, and individual champions. Luckily, we have former LCS coach and League of Legends Lecture host, NicoThePico, to help!

A good way to approach the game is like learning chess. Before you dive into learning complicated openings and mating techniques, it is important to understand how the pieces move and what each piece does. Similarly, before you begin studying item builds and counters, it is essential to have a basic understanding of the champion’s abilities and their impact on the game.

By design, League of Legends creates conflict. It’s not just the in-game conflict of wizards and demons killing each other, but every interaction within and around the game creates tense moments that can escalate into full-on fights. This conflict fuels much of the toxic behavior that is so prevalent in the community.

In a study of League of Legends players, Kahn and colleagues explored the motivations that drive engagement in the game by administering a questionnaire and correlating their answers with various gameplay metrics. They developed a typology of motives that includes “completionist” and “socializing” motives along with a competitiveness factor. This typology has been replicated by other studies in different domains, such as chess, and we believe it has merit as a framework for understanding what drives engagement in League of Legends.롤대리
