Leafy Suburbs Ch. 02: Book Club

Leafy Suburbs Ch. 02: Book Club

Even with a full-time job and a household to manage, Priya wished she could host book club every month. She enjoyed this escape from routine and the chance to entertain some of her best girlfriends, all of whom had the same demands of work and family, so, they agreed, every other month it was.

This month's book choice was Eden Crying, a popular romantic adventure novel about two college professors facing social challenges in their own language arts department because they were a mixed-race couple. It was written by Vanessa Simon, a woman who, like one of tonight's guests, was an African-American college professor of literature.

It was a balmy overcast Thursday in September. The days were still long. Priya waited until Nikhil returned from his last community college class after lunch with his friends so that he could help her pick up some food and wine and snacks and soft drinks from the organic grocery store at Quarry Lake.

For this errand Priya dressed in comfy, functional athleisure that she would keep on for the book club party later - casual grey slip-on shoes, a fitting lightweight heather grey sweater and black leggings She kept her hair smartly pinned up and out of her way. A couple of bangs hung in strands near her eyes. The last item was smart sunglasses. Nikhil likewise wore drawstring pants, canvas sneakers and a grey t-shirt under his red hoodie that bore a sports team graphic of an angry cardinal on the front.

The shopping went easy, and as little rewards for the quick shopping job and some afternoon pick me ups she bought them a couple of hot takeout coffees on the way out of the store. The groceries secured, off they went, back home in plenty of time and before the worst of the traffic.

She turned on the radio. It was already tuned to the local public radio station. The talk show topic didn't interest her so she turned the volume down. The second intersection had a long light. They both took their hot takeout coffees from the cupholders and took long quiet sips.

How are your classes going? she asked.

He shrugged. Fine, he said.

Well that's good. How do you like your teachers? She replaced the coffee cup.

My professors? They're fine.

Your professors, she corrected herself, but she noticed thru her sunglasses that he looked a little distressed. Are you all right? she asked.

Um, yeah... I need to fart.

She was a grown professional woman and yet this made her smile hard. Oh, is that all, she said. She opened his window and the passenger window behind him.

All right, she sighed theatrically.

Nick relieved his gas pains. It went a second longer than either of them expected. Now it was his turn to smile hard but bashfully while Priya laughed a little.

Feel better? she asked, only half jokingly. It sounded more sweetly caring than necessary.

Yes. Thank you. I'm sorry.

Aww. You're fine.

The light turned green. The traffic started moving. The radio stayed on but quiet. It wasn't cold outside and the fresh air felt good but after about a mile Priya closed the two windows again.

I haven't pooped today.

We'll be home soon.

The drove in silence for a while.

Girls don't fart, do they.

She smiled without looking away from the road. Yes they do.

You don't.

I do pass gas, yes.

You're too much of a lady.

Still watching the road she smiled harder.

Well I try to wait until I'm visiting the toilet.

Nick didn't know why but this mundane chat was making him a little horny.

The light but gourmet dinner was spread over the kitchen counter. Nick knew the routine. He was welcome to it, but if he wasn't meeting his friends out for the evening then he just stayed in his room or in the basement rec room, reading or watching TV, unless his mom invited him to come into the kitchen while her guests were there.

Tonight he had no desire to go out. Not because he had schoolwork to do, but because like Priya herself, her friends were such attractive grown women and he liked being there when they were there too. It was six in the evening and they were starting to show up.

Leah Levy was from Reisterstown. At 43 she had three girls in public school and was a therapist at the same practice as Priya. Tonight she appeared in a red sweater over a crisp white dress shirt, stylish grey jeans and black shoes. She brought with her their friend Rosie Bailey, 45, a plain but pretty British woman who had a son the same age as Leah's girls. She wore a blouse over her floor-length dress.

Then came Ani Alvarado. Originally from El Salvador, Ani was Priya's 37-year-old dental hygienist. She was followed shortly after by her boss, Dr. Suyin Yu, a 39-year-old Chinese-American dentist. Ani was dressed casually in the evening's requisite jeans and sweater combo. Dr. Yu was the best dressed. She must have come from a work meeting. She had to come last and had to leave first and would have been the only one to finish the book, but for Priya's last guest.

Prof. Melesse Mulunesh, a 41-year-old Ethiopian woman, taught English literature at UMBC. She may have been an effective teacher whose students liked her and took advantage of the office hours she offered, but to Nick, what mattered was that she was exotic and gorgeous and curvy and on the one or two times that they actually met, she captivated him with her smile and her easy charm. She even smelled exotic.

From amid the happy noise came the sound of Priya calling. Nick! Come down and get some dinner!

He walked downstairs toward the smells of food both hot and cold. All the book club women were in the kitchen, and a wave of cooing ensued as Nick appeared and shyly looked over the food and drink items across Priya's huge kitchen bar. Bella surveyed the situation, wagging her tail comfortably. Around the kitchen he spotted various copies of the evening's book. Priya did the reintroductions.

There's Nick. Honey you remember Dr. Yu and Ani and Prof. Mulunesh and Rosie and Leah?

Yeah. Hi. Everyone. The ones who didn't laugh in delight smiled broadly in delight, including Priya. How are your classes going, Nick? asked Leah. As he often did, he shrugged and said they're fine. Do you like your class schedule? He nodded and smiled. Oh yeah. Any cuties in your classes? He smiled and tried to be a good sport. This made Leah and others laugh. He's so cute, said one of them. So you're saying, said another, that you don't miss high school. He shook his head. They all laughed.

Priya walked over to him bearing both a big smile and a wooden tray. On that tray was a dinner size bowl of tomato mac & cheese and a glass of raspeberry seltzer water on chipped ice, accompanied by a steel spoon and fork and a cloth napkin. Here, take this upstairs and study after you eat, she instructed him quietly. Don't watch TV. You can come down for dessert after the guests have theirs. Sure, ok, he said.

Ohh, said Dr. Yu, their bangs make them look even more related. Must be nice having a live-in boyfriend, winked Ani in her pretty Salvadoran accent. Priya was amused but unfazed. She responded to that tease by closing her eyes and kissing Nick hard on the lips. The teasing laughter turned to a chorus of endearment.

A couple of hours passed. In front of his now ignored TV was the rest of his tomato mac & cheese and less than half the fizzy water. Nick needed to go to the bathroom but first he stood in the hallway, leaning on the banister rail, listening to the party downstairs. He really liked these women.

They took turns talking about the book but he could make out little of what they were saying. Before any one of the women finished speaking by turns, the rest of the room would respond with a murmured chorus of agreement.

He took his phone into the main bathroom, shut the door, removed his hoodie and jeans and boxer briefs and tossed them on the hamper. He lifted the lid and sat on the toilet with his elbows on his knees and let Nature have her way with him while he let his attention drift into his phone. He had been there no more than a minute before he heard someone coming up the stairs. Oh no, he thought, she told one of her friends to use this one because the powder room's taken.

Actually it was his mom. She knocked a couple of times quickly - Nick? - and didn't wait for a response before trying the knob, and in she came. On a hunt for something, she gave him no more than a glance, talking to him while rifling thru the medicine cabinet and drawers.

Hey babe. Doing poo?

Yeah.

You needed it to happen. Looks like it's happening. Good.

Yeah.

She found the small plastic bottle of whatever she wanted. Sorry. Have a good go. I need to get you a squatting stool. She shut the door again and he heard her pause, enter his room, pick up his dinner tray and disappear downstairs again.

There was no one else home. Bella the dog stayed downstairs with the much more entertaining ladies. Nick cleaned up, turned off the bathroom lights and returned to his bedroom, but carrying his jeans and hoodie instead of putting them back on. He left his boxer briefs in the hamper.

By now the book club party had been going on for a couple of hours and the guests were slowly starting to leave. Dr. Yu left first. Ridesharing Leah and Rosie left next. Nick had just slipped into his pajamas when he heard someone starting slowly up the stairs.

He opened his bedroom door to see Prof. Mulunesh arrive at the top of the stairs. Her face showed slight surprise to see him, even though she knew he was up here. She was as gorgeous as usual. She wore an Ethiopian habesha kemis dress, all white, despite the late fall season, with bold berry red detailing down the middle and around each hem. Her shoes were downstairs at the front door but she brought her purse up here with her.

Oh, Nikhil!

Oh hi - Professor Mulunesh! How are you?

She tilted her head and lowered her voice in playful conspiracy. Say Melesse, it's fine.

He smiled at the playful conspiracy. Melesse. Thank you. I like that. How was book club?

Oh, we always have a good time. Your mother is very sweet to have us at home like this.

Oh please, she loves doing it. Nick looked downward shyly but noticed how her dress drew attention to her feminine curves. Her hips. Her breasts. He looked up at her pretty face and hair again.

Why don't you join us?!

Oh, I don't want to crash your party.

You're not crashing your party at your home!

He shrugged but smiled.

Where is your toilet, darling?

He tilted his head at the darkened bathroom.

She made smoothly for it. We're going home. Your mother sent me up here. I think the powder room is taken.

No problem. Good to see you!

Good to see you too darling, she smiled, as she turned the lights on and closed the door.

Nick retreated to his room, where he kept his pajama tee on but shed his long draw-string sleeping pants. Then, tiptoeing silently in his sock feet, he glid back into the darkened hallway.

He stood really close to his bathroom door and listened. It wasn't easy with his heart beating so. He was feeling excited and aroused and was starting to have a hard-on, brought on by just the notion of Melesse - a woman he admired for years - sitting on the very toilet he occupied just minutes ago. He felt both grateful for this moment but a little worried that if his smell lingered then she would know it was his, and he wanted to give her his best impression, even though she probably wouldn't care.

He heard two things at once. From downstairs, the subdued commotion of his mom's guests saying goodnight and leaving. From behind this door, the sound of Melesse unrolling a length of tissue while she peed strongly, and for a few seconds longer than he expected. Then it went quiet. He actually held his breath waiting to hear anything else, like say the professor passing gas or even this visit turning into something more.

But it wasn't to be. He held on to both his sex and his breath as the oblivious Prof. Mulunesh sighed, wiped, stood, flushed and replaced her clothing before washing her hands. Just as quietly as he emerged from his bedroom, Nick retreated back into it. But he kept the lights off and his door wide open. From his dark room he watched her sling her purse over her shoulder, hold the handrail and walk back downstairs. The whole time he gazed at her dress-covered but shapely bottom. He risked her turning her head and seeing him. There was no door or anything between her retreating figure and his erection pointing at her.

With a busy class schedule Nick had not released in days. Now, teased by Leah, teased by Rosie, teased by Ani, teased by Dr. Yu and now teased up close and personal by the sights, sounds and smells of Prof. Mulunesh, his half-hard stiffened into a full hard-on. It made him proud and happy.

He swung his bedroom door and plunked onto his bed, still dressed only in a tee shirt and ankle socks. He lay back comfortably on one elbow and looked at what these beautiful grown women were doing to him. His heart beat hard and his sex tingled with sensitivity. It looked like a slightly hairy chiseled sculpture as he began masturbating.

He thought of how lucky were each of their husbands. Did they all have husbands? he wondered. Dr. Yu did. Professor or rather Melesse did. Leah didn't and Rosie didn't, even though they both had kids. Did Ani? His own mom was technically married, though she also had kids, grown kids, and an open box of condoms.

He felt his hips grow warmer with these thoughts, and now he tried to imagine all of these women downstairs in the living room, the same women, but this time kneeling side by side on the floor, elbows on the seats of the big couches, hip to hip, wearing the same outfits above their waists, but below their waists were either jeans unbuckled and pulled down or skirts lifted up, out of the way, and in all cases their underwear pulled down, exposing their bottoms, vulnerable and waiting for him to penetrate them deeply, one by one. He also kept seeing his mom's fitting grey sweater, outlining her breasts, and her form-fitting leggings.

He tried going slow and light but the urge felt too strong. It knew wouldn't be long until he finished. He decided that he would spurt his release into his already worn tee shirt then toss it in the laundry hamper before pulling the covers up over himself and going to sleep. He cared less about dessert.

It was almost ten o'clock now and the book club guests had left. Priya had disposable containers ready for her friends to take food and drink with them and now she was storing the rest of it in the fridge. She was weary and happy from having her friends over, and she was also a little tipsy from enjoying some red wine. So the dishes could wait. She walked thru her house turning lights off.

Nikhil had been so quiet this evening that she assumed he was asleep by now, but as she climbed the stairs she saw his nightstand light on thru his slightly open bedroom door. She smiled and decided to pop in and wish him a good night.
