LeBron James Signs Two-Year, $104 Million Max Contract with Los Angeles Lakers

Los Angeles, June 29, 2024 – NBA superstar LeBron James has agreed to a two-year, $104 million maximum contract to remain with the Los Angeles Lakers, according to league sources. The deal includes a player option for the second year and a no-trade clause, ensuring James maintains control over his future.

At 39, James continues to defy age, averaging 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 8.3 assists per game last season. His decision to re-sign signals his commitment to competing for another championship alongside Anthony Davis and under the leadership of newly hired head coach JJ Redick.

'This is about finishing what we started,' James said in a statement. 'Lakers fans, let’s get back to the top together.'

The contract makes James the highest-paid player in NBA history in terms of career earnings, surpassing $500 million in total salary. With his son, Bronny James, recently drafted by the Lakers, the move also sets the stage for a historic father-son duo on the court.

Lakers General Manager Rob Pelinka praised James' leadership, calling him 'the cornerstone of this franchise’s present and future.'

As free agency unfolds, the Lakers are expected to make additional moves to build around their veteran core. For now, the King remains in purple and gold—and the chase for ring number five continues.
