Launch Date Set: September 10, 6:30 am UTC

Nathan Worsley: LocalCoinSwap CTO

Hey everyone, thought I’d post a personal explanation on the delay.

We originally set ourselves a launch date of 31st of August. This was a very ambitious date, as I’m sure you know most software takes a lot longer of a time to get developed, but we believed it was possible.

As the date approached, it appeared more and more like the target could be reached. All the backend wallet systems seemed stable. Frontend worked. Tests were passing. In opening the payment portal for the ICO we programmed systems separately, integrated together, and spent about 3 days testing, and everything went fine - no hiccups.

During the previous week we worked tirelessly, and with about 2 days to go we were ready to start plugging all the completed systems together.

However, as we started testing we found some edge-cases and issues, that couldn’t have easily been foreseen earlier, in the way that frontend and wallets interacted. Software is unpredictable and what appeared to be a very smooth integration at first, quickly required a lot of bug-fixing and minute alterations. Wallet systems are very critical and you cannot make any mistakes, you literally cannot afford to have a single bug because it’s people’s money on the line.

In the last day we worked overnight with no sleep to get everything stable, but unfortunately with about 12 hours to go some of the edge cases still weren’t rectified to my satisfaction.

I personally reached out to the rest of the management team at that point and asked them to give permission to delay launch. Although I knew that such a late announcement would generate negativity I felt that I just couldn’t take the risk with anyones money. The wallet and security systems are primarily something I have built, and if anything goes wrong the blame falls to me. That’s a huge responsibility to bear and I don’t take it lightly. Although the site looked relatively stable and ready for launch, with the events of the last few days I couldn’t take the risk of not doing further penetrations and bug testing.

I originally asked to put off the launch until Monday, but after some discussion we agreed that it was better to choose 10 days to eliminate any further chance of another delay.

I take full responsibility, and apologise for unnecessarily generating excitement. I hope that you will understand both the reason for the delay, and why such late notice was given. I’m confident that 10 days will be a blip in the radar in the long term success of LocalCoinSwap, and that being 100% safe and waiting is the best decision to make.
