Latin trap music originated in Puerto Rico and is a descendant of southern hip-hop. It’s considered rap as well, with influences from reggaeton. Latin trap gained popularity in the late 2000s and has spread across the world. Its main lyrics are about life on the streets of South America, often depicting the struggles many people face in the area. Here are a few of my favorites:
This song really caught my attention when I first played it on Youtube and is one of the first songs that really got me into Latin Trap. Everything from the instrumental music to the lyrics stand out to me. To this day I still listen to the song and still get the same vibe I did when I first listened to it; this is one of my top 10 Latin Trap songs for sure.
Tu Me Enamoraste (You Made Me Fall in Love) is one of the first Latin Trap songs that really blew up. The lyrics talk about the street life in Puerto Rico and violence that many found interesting, including myself. The beat the song has is really catchy and is one of my favorite of the genre.
Ahora Me Llama (Now Call Me) is another one of my favorite songs and is one of the first Latin Trap songs that included a female artist that I heard. The instrumental and music video grab the eye of the viewer and listener. A lot of the lyrics in the music video are understandable in a way which helps the listener understand and be able to relate to the music.
Diles was one of the first songs by one of my favorite singers, Bad Bunny. This was a remix of his first song released on Soundcloud and when it was remixed it was one of the hottest songs out. This is one of my favorite songs and another song that really got me into Latin Trap. I still listen to this song and the lyrics and the vibe from the music still feels the same as when I first heard it. This song introduced me to other artists of the genre and other Latin artists in general.
This is another song that I recommend listening to as it doesn’t have as much swearing as the rest. This song has really catchy lyrics and the song in general is really good. Jhay Cortez and Bad Bunny have some really good music together and I think that this song came out really well; so well that it has almost 2 billion views on Youtube. I would definitely recommend listening to this if you’re not a fan of music about violence with a lot of swearing.
Tu No Vive Asi (You Don’t Live Like That) is another hit from Bad Bunny and it also did really well. It got over a billion views on Youtube and is also one of my favorite songs to listen to. I really like the instrumental the song has and the lyrics go nice with the beat as well. I would recommend this song to new listeners or listeners in general who are looking for other genres of music.
All these songs represent a portion of Latin trap, and with its growing popularity, Latin Trap is going to expand towards other countries and exceed expectations.
