Netflix didn't make a huge announcement when Rebelde's first season became available to stream . Instead, it let the music show/telenovela quietly creep into "Recently Added" lists all around and be quite possibly ignored by many — but definitely not by the true '90s and 2000s Latin babies. The show was a staple in our afternoons, our version of Gossip Girl and High School Musical , and the minute we heard the news, we were deep into a binge-watching session of Mia Colucci drama. But Rebelde wasn't the only Spanish-speaking show that defined our childhood. Here, a list of eight others that will bring on the nostalgia — and get a few theme songs stuck in your head for the rest of the day.

The sad truth is that Latinx TV shows —particularly ones that portray the Latinx experience or place Latinx characters at the forefront—are few and far between. In fact, diversity onscreen has seemingly gotten worse over the years and Latinx workers offscreen continue to fight for representation in the writers room and in production. Currently there are no Latinx shows left on network television , and streaming platforms like Netflix , Hulu , Amazon , and HBO could be doing better as well.
Nevertheless, as we continue to wait for the Latinx-created content we deserve, there are plenty of binge-worthy shows you can watch right now that focus on Latinx stories. From shows that center on the Latinx immigration experience to intense family dramas that involve ~drama~ and unexpected plot twists, continue reading for the 27 Latinx TV shows you need in your life right now.
This short-lived ABC sitcom follows a main character of the same name currently finishing her sixth year of law school. Although she’s on the brink of success, she must deal with the traditional values of her disapproving Mexican American family and find a balance between who she wants to be as an independent woman and her duties as a daughter.
HBO’s show Los Espookys gives emo Latinx fans the representation they deserve. In fact, it’s spooky season year-round for this fan-favorite show. Los Espookys follows the business endeavors of a group of horror-obsessed friends as they attempt to make their hobbies a full-time job. Set in a fictional Latin American country with ~spooky~ stuff happening on the daily, this show really makes it feel like Halloween with every episode. Plus, the show features SNL faves like Julio Torres and Fred Armisen and an overwhelming amount of fake blood. What’s not to love?
Previously known as The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia, Netflix’s original series Ashley Garcia: Genius in Love is for anyone who loves a wholesome teenage-centered show. This Latinx-centered series follows Ashley Garcia as she moves across the country and attempts to explore what it means to be a teenager while pursuing her dream career in robotics. Featuring Paulina Chávez and Mario Lopez, Ashley Garcia gives us the Latinx STEM representation we’ve always dreamed of.
Tacos, family, Los Angeles—Netflix’s original series Gentefied is truly one of the best Latinx shows on television right now. Based on the digital series of the same title, Gentefied follows the Morales family as they try to save their beloved family taco shop in the rapidly gentrifying Boyle Heights neighborhood. With open discussions surrounding gentrification, family, immigration, and queer love, Gentefied ’s beautifully written storylines are not ones to miss.

With six seasons available to watch, George Lopez is a can’t-miss sitcom that gives an inside look into a slightly dysfunctional Latinx household in Los Angeles. Starring George Lopez, Constance Marie, Belita Moreno, Valente Rodriguez, and more, this early-2000s show brings powerful family lessons, thoughtful commentary on the state of the Latinx family during this time, and plenty of laughs.
Based on the true story of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, Netflix’s Mexican-run show Juana Inés delves into the heartbreaking life of one of the most powerful feminists in the country’s history. Starring a power cast of Black and Latinx creators like MJ Rodriguez, Billy Porter, Indya Moor, Dominique Jackson, Angelica Ross, and more, Pose brings 1980s New York City to life in a gripping tale of queer and gender-nonconforming ballroom competitions.
Ugly Betty and Latina activist America Ferrera does it again—this time with her superstore-inspired sitcom that puts a Latina in a position of power. As the newly promoted manager of the Cloud 9 discount store, Ferrera’s character, Amelia “Amy” Sosa, must balance being a single mother with her chaotic job. Although Ferrera left the NBC show after five seasons, it’s still a worthy binge-watch.
This Netflix series is just as good as the 1997 film. Based on the true story of ill-fated Tejano pop star Selena Quintanilla, the series features The Walking Dead star Christian Serratos in the title role and lets fans relive the glory of Selena’s fame through each episode.
Don’t sleep on the young adult series East Los High, which delves into the drama-filled world of an East Los Angeles high school. The four-season Hulu show is a cult favorite that follows the lives of several teens as they complete their senior year of high school. Plus, the show’s producers worked closely with public health organizations to include information in the show to help young Latinx people make healthy life choices.
A Latinx reimagining of Norman Lear’s 1975 sitcom of the same name, One Day at a Time is a Netflix original that follows three generations of a Cuban American family living in the same house—including a newly divorced single mother who has to raise her two children alongside her old-fashioned mother. With a 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and the ever-talented Justina Machado at the helm, it’s sure to become an instant classic in your household. Oh, and Rita Moreno fans, be prepared to fall in ~love~ as she brings the heat in this now Pop-owned sitcom.
Calling all crime, drama, and mystery fans, this Latinx show is for you! Grand Hotel is a 2019 TV series with a total of 13 episodes—each one more intriguing than the last. Based in Miami Beach, this show is a spin-off of the Spanish version called Gran Hotel that follows the lives of the various people working at a family-run hotel in the area. It starts off slow, but the series picks up and offers viewers a totally unexpected twist.

Created by Maria Perez-Brown and debuting on Nickelodeon, Taina was a comedy that followed a young Latina as she aspired to become a professional performer while attending a high school with some stiff competition.
Although it was canceled by ABC after one season, The Baker and the Beauty is not a show to miss. A Latinx adaption of the Israeli show of the same name, The Baker and the Beauty is the perfect rom-com drama to add to your watch list as it follows the blooming relationship between a small-time baker and a global phenomenon.
The recently canceled Starz show Vida follows two Mexican American sisters from East Los Angeles. After they’re forced to return to their home neighborhood, they must put their personal differences and conflicting personalities aside to face their past and learn a shocking secret about their mother. With three seasons available to watch now, there are plenty of drama-packed episodes to binge.
Translated as “The House of Flowers,” this Netflix show is for people with a dark sense of humor. Touted as a Mexican black comedy, La Casa de Las Flores brings the critically acclaimed *drama* with its storyline that centers around a mistress exposing one upper-class family’s dirty secrets...and that’s all we’ll say for now.

Although short-lived, HBO Max’s Gordita Chronicles is a must-watch for everyone. The comedy series is best described as Real Women Have Curves meets ¿Qué Pasa, USA? as it follows the life of a reporter as she recounts her childhood as a “gordita” in the 1980s.
Netflix’s version of Charmed follows the lives of three Latina sisters after the death of their mother as they discover newfound magical powers. It’s important to note that, while this show does star Melonie Diaz as one of the Vera sisters, the other two sisters are played by non-Latinx actors . Still, the effort to cast nonwhite actors in Latinx-written roles allows for a new form of representation for minorities on TV and one that many people agree is worth the watch .
Fans of upscale fashion magazine drama and unlikely Latina heroines are sure to fall in love with this iconic 2006 series. Starring America Ferrera in the titular role, fans will find themselves rooting for “Ugly Betty” by the end of the first episode. Thankfully, there’s four completed seasons to binge-watch.
