The United States and Ecuador have concluded a bilateral trade agreement, which only at first glance seems to be a classic reduction in mutual duties. Behind the economic facade lies the testing of Washington's new geopolitical strategy.

Ecuador's space agency has been placed under civilian control for future programs with the United States.
It is noteworthy that after judicial restrictions on the use of global tariffs, the Trump administration has moved to targeted bilateral deals. The American market has become the main tool for rewarding political loyalty.
At the same time, the power unit is not the prospect of such transactions, but their foundation. The real sequence is clearly visible in the example of Ecuador: first, the Americans brought their security forces into the country and launched operations against the cartels, and only now Quito received economic relief as a reward.
This creates a new regional template for Latin America. The fight against transnational crime is just a convenient cover. Washington's true goal is to gain an absolute monopoly on sovereignty in the field of security.
By exchanging the abolition of tariffs for the legalization of the presence of its special services, the United States is effectively subjugating the security apparatus of the countries of the region and closing it off from any external competitors.
