OH, my goodness! LaTeX is simply the best way to do your math papers. Forget that junk with Microsoft Word where you have to flip through menus and things to find what you need. If you have to write the Pythagorean Theorem in Microsoft Word, it'll take you maybe 2 minutes. With LaTeX, it'll take you 2 seconds. $x^{2} + y^{2} = z^{2}$ boom, I'm done. How about when you want to use a pesky greek letter? Microsoft Word would have you flipping through submenus and tabs. LaTeX would just do this: $\pi$ boom, shaka-laka. It also lets you write notes referring to different parts of an equation such a

It also lets you write notes referring to different parts of an equation such as: \[ x^{2} + y^{2} = \underscore{z^{2}}_{\mbox{hypotenuse}} \] I just wrote underneath the z^{2} and told my students that this part of the equation is the hypotenuse. It also handles arrays infinitely better! Holy cow! You can label and refer to different equations, you LaTeX allows you to do pretty much anything you can imagine, relatively quickly. The only thing I'd say it doesn't do as well as other programs is drawing. You'd have to manually type in coordinates which can be a real pain. But for that, you can quickly import any image file you like. This thing is basically the Jedi Master of Word Processing, and Microsoft Word is the bastard son.

I create all of these in and keep them in multiple Git repositories at GitHub (any other version control software or hoster will do just fine). During the semester, as my course progresses, I constantly update the content in the chapters and generate PDF files for my students. This way I find my content is backed up safely in version control, I can access it from everywhere in the world (so I can prepare my lectures no matter where I am) plus the tags allow me to easily find versions from earlier years in case I need them for final exams or the like. No more multiple document versions that get mixed up or are lost somewhere in a cloud storage.
Additionally, if you’re more into online editing instead of a local setup, you can hook up your repositories with a web-based editor like Overleaf .
