Langkawi is a name for the archipelago in the Andaman Sea, part of the state of Kedah, adjacent to Thailand. Coastal areas consist of flat lowlands interrupted by limestone ridges. Two thirds of the island is covered by wooded mountains, hills and natural vegetation. There are many organized trips to the Geopark. Pantai Cenang is the most popular tourist and beach spot in the area. Langkawi is duty free, which attracts visitors to large purchases. It is certainly one of the best places to buy a variety of souvenirs of Malaysian origin. The symbol of the island is the eagle, whose huge statue on Eagle Square can be seen right from the port of Kuah. The word 'lang' means eagle and 'kawi' means reddish brown. The relatively long beach at Pantai Cenang has fine white sand. The sea water is calm and clear. In addition to small clams and shells shining under the surface of the sea starfish and occasionally flickers a small fish. Unfortunately, sometimes we come across a stinging jellyfish. In the morning, before the hot day begins, the beach is mainly for runners. During the day it is slowly filling up with other visitors, but there is certainly no head to head, which is very pleasant. Water sports are the same as elsewhere, it is possible to ride a jet ski, an inflatable banana or fly a boat. In the evening, various restaurants and bars come to life on the promenade and in the main tourist street. Here you have to go fishing somewhere, because they prepare great. From Langkawi you can make a lot of trips, often very conveniently mediated directly by the accommodation facility. An interesting tip is the beautiful island of Ko Lipe, where you can get directly from Langkawi by ferry and visit neighboring Thailand. One extra journey lasts only an hour and a half. However, passport control and money exchange must be remembered. An alternative is to visit other interesting islands around Langkawi. However, we stay only on Langkawi, because here, in addition to the beautiful beach, there are plenty of opportunities for great excursions in the vicinity. We also cannot omit the Kilim Geopark, where we plan to observe eagles, swimming macaques and bats, float between mangrove stands and the beautiful surrounding nature, and take part in fish feeding on the farm. From Penang harbor we set off with a small ferry to the very popular and popular tourist resort - the island of Langkawi Pulau Langkawi. It takes about three hours to get there, and it is definitely a good idea to take something warmer, because the ferry is extremely cold due to extreme air conditioning. Outside the closed part of the ship, unfortunately, there is not much room for comfortable long journey. The island can also be transported by air, such as from Penang and Kuala Lumpur. When anyone mentions Malaysia, the vast majority of people think of the Petronas Twin Towers, the twins that dominate the capital Kuala Lumpur, some of the Cameron tea plantations, others of the cultural city of Melaka. However, Malaysia also offers great swimming, endless sandy beaches, turquoise blue sea and unspoilt surrounding nature. A perfect example is the island of Tioman, also known as Pulau Tioman. Architecturally stunning cities, tea plantations, tropical rainforests, historical landmarks and white beaches. In fact, there is no other option, because the tour of the Geopark takes place only on the water. It is not a physically demanding trip, no visitors will enjoy much walking, but it is still worth visiting the geopark. Stretching is possible at least while swimming on a nice beach. Our stay on the beautiful Malaysian island of Langkawi is nearing the end and the last trip is ahead. Today we set out on the most famous icon of the island, the Sky Bridge. The bridge is less than 20 kilometers by car from Pantai Cenang. After hot days on the sunny island of Langkawi, we move to the coldest area of our journey - the Cameron Highlands. Located at a higher altitude, there are lower temperatures, which is a bit unusual for us in Malaysia. But it is nothing dramatic, the windbreaker and long pants are enough for morning and evening. Our destination for the next two nights is the city of Tanah Rata, which will also serve as a starting point for our two scheduled trips. Our second day in the Cameron Highlands we again take a trip to the tea plantations. We take a taxi and go from Tanah Rata through the city of Brinchang to about 10 km distant Kea Farm, where roses are grown. The sobering-up station provides sanctuary for elephants who have fallen into poacher traps or other difficulties. They use their own elephants, who are very ethically trained here do not really expect any circus, here it helps. Injured elephants are undergoing rehabilitation and, if possible, their return to nature. The station also takes care of moving elephants due to the ever-increasing agricultural area. The employees are doing a really beautiful job here, be sure to come to support them. Our last day in Malaysia has come. We don't want to go too far from Kuala Lumpur and we also enjoyed the beaches a lot, so we will visit the city of Putrajaya. It has served as a federal territory since and is the planned capital and administrative center of Malaysia. The seat of government moved here as early as due to the congestion of the existing capital Kuala Lumpur. However, the king, parliament and embassies are still based here. The capital of Malaysia is famous mainly thanks to the Petronas Twin Towers, the tallest double building in the world. But the most interesting thing about it is its diversity and both national and architectural diversity. The city is one of the important centers of international trade and you will know at a glance that it is a really rich city. And also one of the most visited cities in the world. Let's now look together at what awaits you as a traveler. Are you attracted by the clear sea, which with its crystal color resembles the Maldives, but it is not the Maldives? We fly to the northwest coast of Malaysia, to the state of Penang also Pinang , which consists of the main island with the capital George Town, the mainland Seberang Perai and other smaller islands. A quiet island with white beaches, turquoise sea and an unspoiled underwater world is the dream of each of us. Have you ever heard of this little paradise? The greatest of adventurers may enjoy other activities such as alpine climbing, paragliding or undertake a mountain expedition. Mt Kinabalu 4 m is one of the most important mountains in the world. It is the highest mountain of the third largest island in the world. Also, it is the highest summit between the Himalayas and New Guinea. It is twice as high as neighboring Crocker Range. On its top, there are several granite towers. A vista worthy of gods. Borneo island consists of two parts. The souther part belongs to Indonesia, the northern to Malaysia. We are headed to the north to Sabah state which is home to many exotic plant and animal species. The street is above Pasar Seni stop. The most impressive feature of Sri Maha Mariamman temple is it structure which copies that of a human body - there is a head directed to the west, and legs to the east. Brickfields aka Little India used to be an ordinary residential district near Kuala Lumpur. However, as of late it transformed to a wide boulevar featuring Indian sotres, and Indian restaurants. The mosque replaced a church in Its main features are meter minarets. The main construction of the roof drew inspiration of an open umbrella. Minarets should resemble folded umbrellas. Before it became the capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur had been founded as a humble mining city in the s. Today, it is a fast-growing city beloved by tourists. The Tamils, Chinese, Malayan and indigenous people are the main ethnicities living there. Enjoy this couple of skyscrapers. These must be on the list of any visitor to Kuala Lumpur. The proper name for it is the Langkawi Skycab, but names aside, it is one of the most exhilarating things you will do in all of Malaysia. This article may contain affiliate links. Having been to Langkawi only recently I am still here while typing this article and the Skybridge today I thought I would put together a complete guide to what to expect. And while sites like that are good for getting up to date prices, they also tend to tell you stuff all else! So here is what you can expect from a day at the Langkawi Cable Car and Skybridge. With no frills, personal insights and frustrations all included! The Cable Car connects the lower village to the peak of Gunung Machinchang, which is also the location of the Langkawi Skybridge. The Skycab is a brilliant initiative, and gives locals and visitors a wonderful view of the entire group of Langkawi islands. The Langkawi Cable Car itself is worth the ride, being relatively cheap, and providing incredible views on its own. Interesting to note is that both the Langkawi Cable Car and the Langkawi Skybridge both hold significant records. The Skycab holds the record for steepest cable car in the world, also with the longest unsupported length of m. The Langkawi Skybridge holds the record for the longest curved span on a bridge with only one support. To get there, simply take a GRAB from the airport, or anywhere else on the island. From the airport it is only about 20 minutes. You can also drive yourself or ride a scooter. There is ample parking, and interesting to note is that the scooter parking is free! Just make sure you have the right license and hire a scooter from a reputable source. Are you planning on renting a car or driving when you are overseas? You can also expect a crowd if you get there are the wrong time, like I did. Not to matter though, because once you have lined up and got on the gondola, the rest is not so bad. They actually restrict how many are at the top, as the bridge itself is only certified to hold people. The Gondola ride is very scenic and enjoyable. Nowadays there is a great viewing platform there to check out if you are interested. Up top, you will find food, the option to check out the skybridge, and another couple of wonderful viewing platforms. But I will go into more details about it all a bit further on. One thing to note — The entire day at the Langkawi cable car and Skybridge is a carefully disguised sales funnel. It is just one upsell after another. Unless you want to pay for the upsell, of course. Once you approach the ticket office, you will get your first taste of it. Right outside, at the head of the ticket line is a sign with all of your options. Did you think you were just going to get a ticket on the gondola to the top? Think again! You can also get tickets online. Just check out one of the below links to see your options. Once you have your ticket, head off to the left and through the turnstiles. If there is a big line, they will hold you out for a while. I can only assume this is to limit the amount of people actually going up the top at any given time. At the turnstiles you will hand over all that water, soft drink and food you just bought from the shop next door. No food or drink is allowed on the Langkawi Cable Car. Up some stairs you will enter a thankfully air conditioned room where you will get herded like sheep through row after row of turnstiles as you make your way to the Skycab loading point that, you guessed it, you just walked past! Of course, if you took one of the many upsells and opted for Premium, Private, express or VIP treatment, then you are golden, and can take the short route. In the line you will see several posters that give you the history of the Skycab, so at least you have some good reading. This is a wonderful upsell if you just happen to have forgotten to bring your own camera, iPhone, gopro or any other device with you. Sarcasm included for free. Once you make it to the loading point, they will separate you into groups of six and herd you into the Gondolas. The cabs themselves are ok, as far as Gondolas go. Note that every now and then a cab will pass with no one in it. They have more open air, with bars instead of windows, and are extremely popular as can be seen by the fact no one is in them. Once you leave the bottom station, the views open up slowly behind you. On a clear day they are extraordinary, and the wow factor just keeps on coming. Take notice as well of the view in front, and just how steep this gondola climb is. Off to one side you will see the beautiful Telagah Tujuh Waterfall. The Cable Car you are sitting in quite comfortably fits 6 normal size adults. In the normal cars, there are only a couple of cracks in the high windows for you to get a good photo without looking through the plexiglass. There is also a small sliding window in the door that you could fit your phone through if you are VERY careful, and hold onto it tightly! The first stop on the trip is the mid station. Here, you have the option to hop off and enjoy the views from the viewing platforms. I continued on. The trip across to the top station is a lot shorter, and gives you wonderful views not only of the distant islands, but also the Langkawi Skybridge. This is your first real sight of it, and from a different angle than you probably would have seen before. Once you arrive up top, you have to work out where to go. Head to the left and there is a small ticket booth beside a small convenience shop. You will have two options for the Skybridge. First, to take the Skyglide down, or second, to simply walk the odd stairs to get there. The difference is only 10RM, but if you are on a budget, just take the walking option. Before you head off though, take note of the other stairs going UP. These go up to a couple of high food courts where you can get some decent food with a view, and also two panoramic degree viewpoints. I never saw these advertised down below, but in my opinion they give a LOT better view than the Skybridge. What they ARE, is completely free! I think it is misnamed, personally. Just beware of getting close to the edge and losing grip on your phone or camera. I shudder to think how many are littering the valley floor below. I think I actually saw a monkey taking photos of his mates with an iPhone 13 pro. But I may have been mistaken. At the far end of the bridge is the end station, which is simply where you turn around to walk back. There are also a couple of diagrams that will give you some interesting stats about the bridge and its construction. Once you are done, its just a case of backtracking to the Gondola and heading back down again. There are a few things that I want to point out to you before you head off and buy your ticket. Because these things will not be made clear to you beforehand, and one or more of them could spoil your day. As I said, these are things to be aware of. Forewarned is forearmed, and if you are prepared for them, then nothing will spoil your day. There are quite a few things to see and do around the base of the Langkawi Cable Car. With loads of restaurants, cafes and gift shops, you could actually spend all day browsing. There are a few attractions though, as you would have noted in the pricing with add ons for Petland for example. There are a couple of things I would recommend though. First is Telagah Tujuh Waterfall that you saw from the Gondola. What you will find there though is a really nice place to swim, with some wonderfully refreshing mountain waterholes. The other is before you leave, seek out the food court at the back of the complex. You will find it tucked away behind subway, and there may even be quite a few monkeys around. The food court has some great food, but in particular check out German Food Corner. Their Schnitzels are amazing! Well, I just mentioned German Food Corner. But if you are looking for something more local, or even different, there are also many other places around the base and in the same food court. There are even some places as you walk in from the carpark. Up top you will find some small restaurants at the very top station. The prices are actually decent, and you get to eat with a view. That is if you can find a table of course. If you want to stay nice and close to the Langkawi Cable Car, then you have a few options, but this is a sought after area and hotels here are high end. What more could you want? A quiet and secluded spot not far from both Pantai Kok and also the Cable Car. Staff here are excellent, facilities and food a credit to the resort, rooms are spacious and they even have buggy service. What can you say about the Ritz-Carlton. This edition has everything you would expect from the rooms to the facilities, and the staff go above and beyond. Just as you would expect.
