Lamentation Of The Dying Ass
Lamentation (The Mourning of Christ) is a fresco painted c.1305 by the Italian artist Giotto as part of his cycle of the Life of Christ on the interior walls of the Scrovegni Chapel in Padua, Italy.
Analysis of the Lamentation of Christ by Giotto After the Betrayal of Christ (Kiss of Judas), the Lamentation of the Death of Christ is the most famous of the Scrovegni Chapel frescoes painted by Giotto in the first decade of the 14th century. The frescoes were commissioned by the wealthy Scrovegni family for their private chapel in Padua.
In this series of frescoes, and particularly in the Lamentation of the Death of Christ, Giotto is able to convey more detailed emotions through the facial expressions of Christ's supporters and the body movements of the Angels. This fresco would influence Giotto's later paintings and would also be an important influential work for the painters during the Italian Renaissance.
[1] In many lamentation paintings the predominant note is sorrow, for instance in a truly moving one by Rogier van der Weyden. Though this Giotto fresco depicts the disciples' deep sorrow over Christ's death, their aching pain over parting from Jesus, it is not desolate. Its spirit is not so much primarily of sorrow.

Prayer for Restoration - LORD, remember what has happened to us. See how we have been disgraced! Our inheritance has been turned over to strangers, our homes to foreigners. We are orphaned and fatherless. Our mothers are widowed. We have to pay for water to drink, and even firewood is expensive. Those who pursue us are at our heels; we are exhausted but are given no rest.

He turned his hand against me again and again, all day long. He wore out my flesh and skin and broke my bones. He surrounded me with sadness and attacked me with grief.
