My husband and I are wanting to move to an Arabic or Middle Eastern country as we are Muslims and have always been fascinated with their culture, society, way of life, etc. However, I am transgender and even though all of my documents have said female for the past 16 years (changed from MtF at 18), I'm still a bit worried. I pass off as cis-gender in public but I'm worried about being 'outed'. If you know any other cities or countries in the Arab world that would be better suited for me or know a better subreddit for me to post this in please let me know. All feedback is appreciated! :)
Dw about this, it's legal to be transgender in Bahrain, so you will not be arrested for that. Just bring any document that you need, if you still worry, you can check the embassy in your country.
For people, they will mostly will not care, just weird looks here and there, but no one will target you or harm you. (Idk how you look like, you might not even get weird looks, it's all about how obvious is it..)
I don't think I look transgender. A lot of my husband's extended family don't even know. Even if people do give me weird looks, as long as they respect me, I'll be okay. Thank you for your answer by the way! :)
If the documents are legal and says you're female then it's okay. IIRC, even transgender surgeries are legal in Bahrain since 2014 (but IDK if these are being done already here). Thought Courts dealt with a local transgender before that, the most known one was in 2008 when it was published in the local newspapers as the court granted the change of gender for one transgender local.
In my experiences, Jordan is probably the most “liberal” when it comes to your concern. Amman is a great city too.

Secondly, being trans is completely legal in Bahrain, but not all locals will be as accepting as the law. As long as you don't publicly announce it, you should be fine.

Clubs and Prostitutes...need I say more? The club is located in the second building on the ground floor, but from 21:00-02:00 you can hear them all the way up on the forth floor even with ear plugs on. Even better in the first building is that you an hear the prostitutes doing their jobs. The place does nothing to regulate the flow of hookers so they are all over the place in the lobby. The rooms are huge, but everything is so old. The shower head in the bathroom sprays everywhere and the tub leaks out into the floor. Everything looks so unsanitary in the bathroom. The room carpet looks like it hasn't been vacuumed for years and it's impossible to find an electric plug. The fitness center is a storage room. More
This hotel's primary line of business appears to be catering to men who are meeting working women who are offering certain services. There is absolutely no reason at all to go to this hotel or any of its restaurants, unless you are such a man needing a place to meet a working woman. The food and service are atrocious. There is no redeeming factor in the slightest. I would rather go hungry than eat there again. I felt dirty just from going in to eat at their restaurant. This place is top to bottom terrible. Avoid it at all costs.

The average European would not find this a pleasurable place to stay. We checked in for 7 nights and left after one night.. Rooms were shocking ( looked at 2 different rooms!), Beds are like sleeping on concrete and the noise from the Arabic nightclub in the hotel can be heard on every floor including the ninth ! The pool....... Well.... It might as well not have had one.... My local park has a cleaner, safer and more luxurious pond. HENCE WHY THERE IS NO PICTURE OF THE POOL TO BE FOUND ON ANY WEBSITE. I wasnt even going to waste the space on my digital camera to post one. STAY AWAY..... Defo not a 3 or 4 star.... more like a ZERO star. BE WARNED
Reception is ok, people are kind and as i mentioned earlier it's not very clean. There are so many prostitutes everywhere in that hotel and i don't like that. However, it's location is great, it's close to places of intertainment and to downtown. There are some good resturants near the place too.
I can say that it is a fair and even a good hotel when price and services are compared. As far as i remember there was 2 discos which totally sucks. You better go out from the hotel if you want to have some fun in Bahrain. We took the suite room which was comfortable (i definitely recommend if you are a group of people) Room services was poor.
