I have seen many Holocaust films and documentaries, and for the ones that focus solely on one survivor, this one is in my top two or three. Sonia's story is an interesting one, both during the Holocaust and since. She is a survivor who, in Nov. 2019, is still living and working in Kansas City. She has so much personality, and her daughter who directed the film does a wonderful job of bringing that out. In addition to Sonia's story, viewers also meet her children in the film and come to understand the affects and the sense of obligation felt by many survivor's children and even grandchildren. My high school students viewed this film, too, and learned from it while also enjoying Sonia. There are excellent curriculum materials available to go along with the film for teachers to use, but this documentary is also good for viewers who are not teachers or students. Big Sonia has been recognized for the content of the documentary and also for being made by a female director/filmmaker. Highly recommend.

I seldom watch documentaries because they usually don't hold my attention. Today, I searched for a quality movie to watch, and ended up watching Big Sonia. I was immediately drawn into the story by Sonia's great personality and by her unfolding story. Sadly, Sonia's teenage years were cut short during WWII when she, along with her entire family, were hauled off to the concentration camps. The camps were indescribably evil. We must wonder when listening to Sonia talk about those years, how does someone survive such horrors? An equally important question is, how does a survivor have a meaningful and fulfilling life after such horrors? These two questions are answered as Sonia shares her life and passion with us during the documentary. I was so touched by this documentary and by Sonia's message to let hatred go that I'm recommending it to friends and family. It also would be good to show to groups and students in junior high, high school and college.

I really have nothing but love and respect for Sonia. This is why I gave it five stars. The documentary itself was honestly a little frustrating though. I wanted to hear more from Sonia herself and less from the students and prisoners, etc., that she spoke to. I watched this for her stories and not for the reaction of people to her. It also felt a bit choppy to watch. I don't want to say too many negative things because Sonia is an important person and she deserves to be heard, but I wish someone more professional had done the documentary.

Bought this DVD to share with friends and “to have forever.” It is currently recorded on our DVR, but that will eventually go away. Hubs and I saw in theatre in late 2018. I live in a suburb of KC, so it had special meaning to me, becuz of knowing the locations. I started going to her alterations shop a year ago, and we have become friends. She is a delightful, warm, witty, engaging woman. She was 94 in November and you wouldn’t know it. Her story is heart-breaking, but in her later years, she wants to share her story of love, and doing the right thing. WWII was before my time, but Zi have a great interest in it becuz of being a baby boomer. We heard a lot about it as youngsters. It’s one more story of someone who lived thru it! Very interesting movie!

I had donated to the making of this film. I finally got the chance to see it and it was the best money I ever spent. You can't watch this without falling in love with Sonia. The message of the film is love not hate. It is very simple and when you hear what happened to Sonia and how she refuses to carry any hate it makes you examine your own life and think about letting things go. We need to listen to Sonia and make sure what happened to her never happens again. BIG SONIA was an excellent film. I gave it five stars because after watching it, I felt good. I wanted to continue to see more of Sonia. Maybe she needs a reality show. I would watch every week just to see the different places she speaks and the customers she helps dress and the people's lives she changes.

I love documentaries, and this one was well balanced and respected the people featured and the viewer. The atrocities recounted were definitely difficult to hear and envision, I teared up several times, but never forcing gratuitous images making it uncomfortable to watch. I hope people share this with young teens and older, as the stories of survivors are crucial to connect us through compassion and deter the unfortunate violence we still create. A truly well done piece, and Sonia and her family, friends are remarkable. Keep hate our of your heart!

"Speaking from your heart and speaking what took place and you were the witness. If I reach their hearts and they will make a change in their life and take out the hate, this would be my greatest accomplishment." Big Sonia's life is a tremendous victory for individual souls and for all humanity. Ms. Sonia Warshawski's triumph shines through her ultimate survival from the most unspeakable and vile acts of evil perpetrated by the Nazis (along with their supporters and bystanders) and for the millions who have been touched by her own resilient heart and belief in love over hate. The Warshawski family story is touching and illuminating for anyone who has endured loss, tragedy and traumatic family legacies.

I couldn’t wait to watch this film since I used to work at one of the middle schools she visits and had heard of her from a coworker. It is a beautiful, heart wrenching film following her current life and her memories of as a survivor of the Holocaust. My 11 year old son wanted to watch it with me and pretty soon he was cuddled up with me, both of us with tears in our eyes and feeling extremely thankful to have each other. The more we learn from the past and the people that survived, the more we develop compassion in future generations and will hopefully never allow hate to win. You are amazing Sonia and family!
