Lado Okhotnikov: How to Avoid Getting Scammed in Pursuit of Easy Money

Recently, a new trend has emerged - Notcoin-style games. This project showed that it is possible to attract a huge audience at virtually no cost, simply by giving everyone the opportunity to earn a little money.

Following Notcoin, dozens, if not hundreds of similar games appeared: cats, hamsters, oil and many others. Some of them have well-thought-out tokenomics and investors, but most are just one-day projects created on hype to make quick money.

Of course, the idea of making money in a gaming way is attractive to many, especially for those who have just come to crypto. However, we should not forget that where there is an opportunity to make quick money, there will always be scammers who are ready to take advantage of the gullibility and inexperience of beginners.

The first and most important rule is do not invest real money in games unknown to you. If a project offers to buy native currency or upgrade for fiat or cryptocurrency, be extremely careful. Most likely, you will simply lose your cache. In addition, never link your main wallets with large sums to such games. Use separate wallets with a small balance to minimize risks.

If the game does not require investment and allows you to earn money simply for being active, then you can try playing in your free time. But you shouldn’t count on serious income. At best, you will earn some small change, which can then be withdrawn or used within the project ecosystem.

Another important point is to always check the information about the project and the development team. Take a look at the official groups and channels of the project on social networks, and read reviews from other users. If the project does not have a live community, and the subscribers are mostly bots, then this is a reason to think about it.

Of course, not all new GameFi projects are scams. There are also really interesting and promising games that have serious teams and investors behind them. But such projects are in the minority.

Hamster Kombat and Catizen are the next clones

Recently, many projects have appeared on the GameFi market that are trying to attract the attention of users, promising easy money and exciting gameplay. However, upon closer inspection, most of them turn out to be just copies of each other, without any significant innovations or unique offerings.

Hamster Kombat and Catizen are prime examples of such games. Despite the developers' loud statements and impressive numbers of registered users, these projects are unlikely to be able to offer anything truly new and exciting.

Hamster Kombat positions itself as a mining game, but in reality it turns out to be an ordinary “clicker”, where the entire gameplay comes down to endless clicking on the screen. The founders promise less time spent compared to other similar games, but this can hardly be considered a serious advantage. Not having to invest real money is, of course, a plus, but it’s unlikely to be enough to keep players interested for long.

Catizen, in turn, is trying to resurrect the CryptoKitties concept by adding clicker elements. But here the developers do not offer anything fundamentally new. Simple graphics, monotonous gameplay and lack of additional activities - we have already seen all this in dozens of other games. Even if the TON Foundation actually invested in the project, this does not guarantee its success in the long term.

Of course, it cannot be denied that Hamster Kombat and Catizen have managed to attract the attention of a large number of users. But this speaks more about the hype around new projects in the GameFi field than about the real merits of these games. Once the hype dies down, many players will likely lose interest and move on to something fresher and more original.

Ultimately, both projects run the risk of “drowning” in the mass of the one-type “tap games”, which quickly get boring and do not offer anything truly valuable. Without serious innovation and unique mechanics, Hamster Kombat and Catizen are unlikely to be successful in the long run.

Of course, there is always a chance that the developers will be able to surprise us with something truly new and exciting. But so far both projects look like clones trying to capitalize on the hype around GameFi. And if they don’t offer something truly unique, they risk quickly losing the audience’s interest and sinking into oblivion, like many other similar games.

The crypto market is very volatile and unpredictable

Today, Notcoin-style games are trending; tomorrow new narratives may appear. Who knows, maybe in the future we will see a real blossoming of GameFi and the emergence of truly exciting Web3 games. But for now it’s better to be careful and not chase easy money, otherwise you may be left with nothing.

Study, analyze and make informed decisions. This is the only way to succeed in this new and rapidly changing industry.
