Maricela Gallarzo is a wife, mother, and businesswoman who emigrated from Mexico to Chicago in 1997 to pursue her American dream. There she met and married her husband Cef. The couple and their first child moved to Minnesota in 2000. She became a US Citizen in 2002.
She and Cef currently own and operate the only Planet Smoothie in Minnesota and an office cleaning business.
Government policy in response to the recent riots and pandemic contributed to a drastic loss in her customer base in downtown Minneapolis and created many obstacles to success. It has not been easy.
However, her attitude, work ethic, and tenacity motivate her to work 12-hour days at her smoothie business and afterwards join her husband to help with office cleaning.
According to Maricela, one of her main goals is to teach her three children that they can be anything they want to be in America…if they make good choices, set goals, work hard, and sacrifice.

My family have been residents of MN Congressional District 5 for over 40 years mostly in North Minneapolis. I've been married to my wife Betty 33 years. I've two sons Darien and Adrian. I studied English, math, and science at University of Minnesota and Computer Programming at Brown Institute. I've spent over 40 years in Computer Technology including positions of technical writer, software engineer, subsystem engineer, IT project manager, and management. mostly in Department of Defense (DOD) systems development. I have been CEO of three companies in the fields of a computer Value-Added Reseller (VAR), urban education, and technology development and support. I have been a producer, writer, host of a weekly radio program and the start-up coordinator of an inner-city charter school devoted to closing the education achievement gap, and a non-profit program director who over saw an after-school education program. I have served the community as block club leader, youth and gang mentor, tutoring, prison speaker, church trustee, North High School site council member, charter school advisory board member, and fraternity president. I am currently founder/CEO of Young Entrepreneurs of America (YEA) which is dedicated to teaching computer technology and business, stock and profit sharing, and post-secondary education funding to people of a economically disadvantaged communities as a means of creating wealth and addressing generational poverty. We also are pursuing creation of a Silicon-Valley like business center in one of the poorest and business-challenged community in Minnesota. I seek visible, measurable, and positive difference by the merging the capabilities of politics and business.

National security, family, tax reduction, education, economic development, fiscal and monetary policy, fair trade, national debt and more teamwork and civility in politics.

I look up to my parents and all the adults who help shape me and taught on purpose and empowerment in life; hard work; self-reliance, responsibility, and accountability; the importance of a can-do attitude, goal-setting, and good choices and habits; the unlimited possibilities of living in America, the role of spirituality; and an overall positive outlook on life.

I would like to follow the example of my dad who was strong but gentle and quite, who worked hard and provided for his family, who lead a disciplined life, and who taught me how to be a good family man.

1. We are servants.
2. Having an unselfish purpose for entering politics and never losing sight of that purpose by getting caught up in the selfish aspects of politics.
3. Focus on solving problems by addressing root causes and working across the aisle to get things done.
4. Accountability to voters.

The development of solutions to constituent issues that are based on free-enterprise, self responsibility and accountability
A smaller role and budget of the federal government
Elimination of stress and strain on families and communities especially poor ones
Less reliance on government and a thinking of "Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country
Starting a path to elimination of identity politics and having all citizens consider our common bond of being Americans
Drastically reduce the impact of big money
Starting a path to a balance budget and getting our national debt under control

The assassination of President Kennedy when I was 9 years old. The announcement that he had been "shot" was made on by my fourth grade teacher Ms. Bacon at almost exactly 1PM CT and it was raining on that Friday, Nov-22-1963. It was challenging processing why anyone would shoot our young, energetic, likeable president. I followed and remember all the details that sorrowful weekend. I have been following politics every since.

Farm hand at $0.30 per hour. It was a job I worked each summer from the age of 10 to 14 with pay raises to $3.00 per hour.

The greatness of his sonnets, Allegories, and other poetry especially the epic poem Paradise Lost which to this day seems impossible to write especially by a blind man who he was when he wrote it. His genius, use of language, mastery of all the various subject required to write an epic poem, reflection of his dedication to causes, and his spirituality.

If I Could Reach Out (and Touch Somebody)

1. Situations where opinions and emotions are more important than knowledge and results
2. A wide variety of Interests and pursuits which once mastered, looking for other challenges

1. Those qualities which arise out of Article I of the Constitution
2. The branch of the federal government that is closest and most accessible to the American people
3. Determination of the budget and spending priorities of the federal budget
4. Federal government oversight responsibilties

In general, this is something that must be looked at on a case by case basis. It depends on how previous experiences and job performance.

However like many, if not most, things in life, there are trade offs. It's beneficial in limiting the learning curve and the ability to leverage relationships to get work done

The Founding Fathers never intended the establishment of a political class but rather citizen legislators. So we should give serious consideration to term limits.

1. Overcoming the current political and cultural divide and developing a greater sense of common purpose
2. National security and defense especially in relations to current threats such as international terrorism, China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea
3. Reducing the size and role of the federal government and related dependencies
4. America's role in a global economy ensuring fair trade, roles and responsibilities among our friends and allies
5. Addressing the needs and pursuit of happiness of lower and middle income Americans

I am not a current member of party leadership and if it's not of particular interest at this point. However, this is likely to change once I learn more about the influence and effectiveness of the various leadership positions.

I terms of leadership, vision, intelligence, and effectiveness, Newt Gringich is a good role modet.

I was involved in the teaching and tutoring of reading and math to K-12. One single mother single mother in a low paying job enrolled her three children ages 7 through 12 in our program. The public school bus would drop the students off at the learning center each day. She would ride the bus from work each day to pick them up and then take them on the 30 minute ride home.

There was a pending bus strike. When asked how she would get to work in case the strike came to fruition, how would she get to work..She indicated she would get her bike fixed to make the 25-mile round trip to work each day.

Later, she came to us to let us know she could barely read or write and was embarrassed to let her children to know. When offered she readily agreed to sign up for the program and have individual teaching in a separate room.

I loved her commitment to family, work ethic, attitude, as well as the value placed on education...especially the part on riding her bike to work. Seeing those values in her smiling children made it even more special.
