I visited this restaurant in 2012 and remembered it as the best meal that holiday. We returned in 2022 and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere is charming, the food is wonderful. The A/C is limited, but that's pretty much standard in a heatwave in... Paris! More
Dear Christine, thank you for your kind comment. We hope to see you before 2032...
It is unique to dine at this historical restaurant. It is small and intimate. The food was tasty and prompt. The staff was very knowledgeable and attentive except at the end of the meal when we wanted our check. We happened to dine on one... of the hottest days on record in Paris. There was no air conditioning and therefore the room was extremely warm and uncomfortable. More
Thank you for your comment. We had a few problems with a/c during those very hot days...
I love this restaurant! I came here 15 years ago with my daughter and now again last month with my husband. Food was delicious. I had the veal and crème brûlée, both were yummy. Shared a bottle of Wine. Prices were good, waiters were attentive,... nice ambiance. More
We thank you for your nice comment and hope to see you soon
Service superb/Food excellent/value remarkable.
Three course meal only 38 Euros!
Snails were excellent as ell as fish entre!
It's very nice for us to read such a nice comment. Thank you...
Had our last dinner in Paris with a friend here but it would make a perfect date night for a couple. Very small, with few tables. The service was excellent and the food as well. The French onion soup was to die for and I... had the petite fillet of beef with a green peppercorn sauce. Delicious!!!! We split a chocolate dessert that was light and dense at the same time. Great wine choices. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for an authentic French dining experience. More
Thank you very much for your kind comment
Excellent service by friendly waiters, delicious, authentic French food. Elegant and casual in the same time. Don't miss it when in Paris.
Thank you for your comment and hope to see you soon
The reason for the low rating is that the fish my wife and I had as our main course should have been discarded a good couple of days ago. It was simply not fresh. As an appetizer, we had a leak tart, which was excellent.... Atmosphere is pleasant. Service was good, although waiter was a little brusque. I suspect the restaurant usually does better; I can only rate the meal we had, not speculate on what is typical. More
The food we had was excellent and our service was good. A cozy atmosphere for a very enjoyable dinner.
Nice to read you enjoyed your meal. Many thanks for your comment
A genial atmosphere with gracious decor and waiters, the prix fixe for lunch was completely delicious. Beyond what you find in the tourist areas by miles. There's a for sale sign - god forbid for those of you who haven't been here yet.
French cuisine... at its best. More
Thank you very much for your comment and I hope to have the pleasure to have you for lunch soon....
I first visited this restaurant in the summer of 1987 and have revisited several times since then. It is considered one of the oldest restaurants in Paris and has a delightful ambience; it is not large and this adds to its charm and intimate feeling.... The service is excellent and the waiters are very helpful. The food is, of course, exquisite from a traditional French Menu, that has never disappointed. I have recommended La Petite Chaise to friends over the years, and they too have claimed it as a highlight of their Paris visit. More
Excellent traditional French cuisine, good service, set in a small old but well maintained house. Must try the onion soup, one of the best I've had. It was only when we were leaving that we found out this is the oldest restaurant in Paris, being... open in one form or another since 1680! More
Thank you very much for your nice comment
Ancient restaurant that serves traditional old school French fare. Somewhat forced and faux charming in the summer but it was really lovely on a cold February day. Nothing remarkable but just very good. Obviously a business lunch favourite fort he nearby embassy staffers. good value.
If you search for a good French restaurant it’s definitely the right one ! Great atmosphere , kind and attentive staff , variety of delicious plates with elegant dressing . Very very tasty 😋 ! Will be back for sure !
One of the oldest restaurants in Paris and for sure one of must see places while you're there. Amazing food, great service and the most of all, amazing ambiance...
On our first night in Paris we opted to dine at La Petite Chaise. We didn't reservations, but they seated us after a brief wait. We were sure to make reservations online for all of our future dining, if possible, from then on out. The... food was wonderful and the restaurant was small and charming and several hundred years old. More

Founded in 1680, La Petite Chaise, notably, is the oldest French restaurant in the culinary capital of the world, Paris. The name comes from the older derivation of the French word “cheze,” which, in turn is from the Latin translation of “isolated house.”
The Iron Gate at A Las Petite Chaise – A Historic Monument
In 1680, Georges Rameau started selling wines and food from the building where A La Petite Chaise is housed today. The iron gate at the restaurant’s entrance dates back to the restaurant’s beginning too. For that reason, the gate is now considered a historical monument. As a result, the owner of the establishment is prohibited from altering the looks of the well-recognized gate.
Throughout the centuries, A La Petite Chaise has been recognized for its well-heeled clientele and patrons. Nobility dined and enjoyed wine and food under the same roof. Personages such as Philip d’Orleans and Catherine Hardouin-Mansart, the daughter of the royal architect who created Versailles’ hall of mirrors, have both frequented the restaurant.
Several important arrests were also made in the dining establishment. People such as Chateaubriand, George Sand and Musset all lived near and visited the establishment. Needless to say, it’s not surprising that the restaurant still attracts a mix of writers, politicians, artists and actors to its doors.
Naturally, when you dine at the restaurant, you want to order in French. Otherwise, it would take away from the fine dining experience. Appetizers at the restaurant include some of the following:
The above-mentioned appetizers are frequently followed by such entrees as salmon with crab sauce, salmon and cod served with julienne vegetables and roast rack of lamb. Roasted duck breast complemented with bittersweet sauce is also among the specialties. Traditional favorites such as veal and Camembert cheese sauce and beef stew and vegetables are highlighted too.
Needless to say, everything about La Petite Chaise is French – its cooking methods, its cuisine, and its decorating theme. It’s a dining experience you don’t want to miss when you visit the country’s capital. Become one of the luminaries who visit the eatery.
