I'm still trying to figure out what it is about the French and Classic texts. They love 'fixing' them when they ain't broke as much as they seem to love the originals. In the last five years I've seen on the Paris stage productions of 'Un Tramway nomme Desir' in which the 'flowers for the dead' reference was moved from the beginning to the end; where Blanche and Mitch not only went on a date but were SHOWN in a jazz club complete with a full-length blues performed by a Black singer (not in any production I've ever seen) and, to cap it all, the nurse who accompanies the doctor in the final scene was played by an obvious transvestite wearing drag ('she' was listed as a man in the program) who arm-wrestles Blanche to the floor. This was followed a couple of years later by 'The Glass Menagerie' which begins with a Prologue in which Tom and The Gentleman Caller perform a soft-shoe to Jack Teagarden's recording of 'I'm Confessing'. In the original play the Gentleman Caller appears only at the end but what does Tennessee Williams know. Chekhov gets the same treatment. La Petite Lili is a take on 'The Seagull' and last year I fought to get tickets for an acclaimed production starring a great French actress, Irene Jacob, as Nina. I was slightly bemused BEFORE the play started when the management appeared to play EVERY recording of 'Over The Rainbow' in existence. Then the play began - with Masha performing a raunchy version of 'I Can't Get No Satisfaction' punctuated by swigs from a can of lager (neither the song nor canned beer was available in 19904). Call me square and old fashioned but I prefer the opening line that Chekhov wrote for Masha 'I'm in mourning for my life'. As if that weren't enough from time to time the proceedings ground to a halt as the ensemble broke into 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow'. But why am I telling you all this? Because now Claude Miller has put his two cents worth in, updating the story to take account of film and video technology and changing the character's names although leaving their actual roles the same. There's some nice moody photography but when the oldest character on the Lot, the superb Jean Paul Marielle, runs, not walks away with the movie something is badly wrong. All things being equal this should be Nina's movie but given that they cast the ubiquitous Ludivine Sagnier (again at the expense of the far superior Virginie Ledoyan) who is rapidly cornering the market in overripe sexy sluts (think Jennifer Jones in 'Gone to Earth', 'Duel In The Sun', etc), and clearly has her eyes on the gap left by Vanessa Paradis, this was never going to happen. If only someone would get hip that's it's not enough to look as though you go through life wearing slightly soiled underwear and are happy to flaunt your dubious charms and play sex scenes, you also have to be able to ACT, then maybe Sagnier could settle for a career in the French equivalent of the 'Carry On' series and leave the acting to Ledoyan. On the plus side this film is worth seeing if only for a handful of scenes at the end in which Marielle comes face to face on a movie set with Michel Piccoli, playing Marielle on film (don't ask). It seems that when Claude Miller is killing waterfowls he leaves no tern unstoned.

Il faudrait sérieusement que je m'intéresse au cas Louis Malle tant « La Petite » est la consécration d'un cinéaste exceptionnel. Difficile pourtant de ne pas tomber dans le sordide en s'attaquant au quotidien d'une maison close durant la Première Guerre Mondiale : le réalisateur y parvient admirablement, sans jamais porter le moindre regard condescendant sur ses personnages. Louis Malle a un don miraculeux d’amoralisme. Cela lui permet de traiter sans racolage un sujet scabreux par excellence (une fille de maison close mineure, vouée à l’exercice de la prostitution) comme d’en tirer tout ce qu’on peut en tirer de satire, de démystification, sans balourdise, sans avoir l’air d’y toucher. Ce film est assez dérangeant...cette "petite" qui grandit dans un univers de débauche et qui joue un rôle de femme aguicheuse à l'heure où elle devrait jouer à la poupée...ces hommes malsains qui n'ont d'yeux que pour elle !! Ca fait froid dans le dos ! On est mal à l'aise d'être spectateur de tout ça.
Louis Malle signe une mise en scène soignée, marquée par une imagerie et des tableaux charnels et oniriques : festin de maison close ou déjeuner sur l‘herbe. Un film étonnant sur un sujet qui pourrait être scabreux mais que Louis Malle aborde avec sensibilité. On pourrait difficilement faire un tel film à notre époque.

'Toni Qaqish', who played Maman Fabienne's chauffeur, owns a limo-service in real life. Manoush ordered a limousine from Tony and when he arrived Marcel Walz decided to write some lines for the chauffeur. So Tony was asked to learn them and all of a sudden found himself being an actor in "La petite Mort".
I have seen Marc Waltz Road Rip and it wasn't my thing, there wasn't any red stuff available. But here he got the help of Ittenbach, so you know it could contain some bloody stuff. Luckily for Marc it did. The other problem with German flicks is that they mostly are spoken in German and never have any subtitles. But this flick was also released outside Germany and that version did contain subs. There are some famous German names in this flick like Manoush and Thomas Kercmar, sadly Thomas (Barricade, Angel Of Death 2) couldn't convince me and that's a bit sad, most of the acting is mediocre, you can see them watching were they have to say their line. The story itself is okay but it's a bit of the same, youth walking around and making the wrong turn. Here they arrive in a city to take a plane for their holiday but they have all the day to visit the city because their plane leaves at evening and it's only morning. They decide not to go shopping but to walk around. By entering a club things go wrong. But it's the gore that delivers and makes it watchable. Don't get me wrong, it isn't bad but it goes a bit slow sometimes. Nevertheless, there are some gory typical Ittenbach shots in it that makes it a worth hunt down for the gorehounds. It's not that easy to find a copy outside Germany, I found it at a German horror convention were a Swedish shop sold copies of it. Gore 3/5 Nudity 0/5 Effects 4/5 Story 3/5 Comedy 0/5

La Petite ( Pretty Baby ) est un film américain réalisé par Louis Malle et sorti en 1978 .
En 1917, dans un bordel de La Nouvelle-Orléans , Violet, douze ans, assiste à l'accouchement de sa mère, Hattie, mettant au monde un petit frère. Régulièrement, un photographe vient prendre des clichés des pensionnaires, mais Violet est jalouse lorsqu'il s'occupe de sa mère et des autres filles.
Le film a soulevé une controverse concernant les scènes où Brooke Shields (12 ans à l'époque) apparaît nue. À sa sortie, il a été amputé de 3 minutes. Ces scènes sont maintenant disponibles sur DVD.
Le chercheur Alexander María Leroy [ 1 ] associe le film à l' adaptation cinématographique du roman de Vladimir Nabokov Lolita par Stanley Kubrick . Selon lui, ces films sont représentatifs d'une époque qui a banalisé, voire idéalisé la pédophilie , en mettant en scène des histoires d'amour complexes, mais véritables, alors que les protagonistes masculins violent la loi [ 2 ] .
