Unionized workers at several Quebec casinos went on strike in June 2023 after voting for an unlimited general strike. They demand better wages and an extra Canadian dollar per hour to match the rising cost of living in the provinces. But the employer insists the demand is too steep and refuses to meet them.
The gambling recently said in the media that it would continue to make serious and constructive decisions with unions to ensure that public funds are managed responsibly, which the royal family previously claimed made unrealistic demands for a 24% increase over three years.
The user said the union initially demanded more than double what it had given to other employees at Crown Agency in 2022, but despite progress since, the difference between union demands and recent offers is still very large, and seven other seven collective agreements after 2022 are well received by all parties in the same job category.
Crown also claims casino pay is higher than the benchmark market, providing good working conditions for all members, and claims that nearly 65% of working hours offered bonuses as most CSN employees benefited from last year's positive financial results through targeted incentive pay.
The company has the same attraction and retention issues as most companies through the media, but the attractive casino environment has been offering more than 300 new hires since April 1, 2023, with nearly 40% of its gaming workforce having more than 20 years of experience, the corporation explained.
Update property business hours
Due to the ongoing picket line that began in June, some branches of the crown operate with new working hours. Casino Lacremi, Salon de Troy Riviere, and Salon de Quebec follow their usual schedules. However, Montreal, Charlevoix and Montremblanc casinos are rescheduled for each branch and some services are limited.
The full working hours of each gaming facility can be found on the casino's official website. It also informed employers that the strikes are not related to dealers in Montreal, Charlevoix and Lakremi branches, and online gaming platform Rotocbeck is also resuming regular digital operations without being affected.
