Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently rebranded to signal and embrace futuristic ideas, with the term “metaverse”. So, for those of you who are curious about the term Metaverse , let’s look at the following explanation:

What is Metaverse?

Metaverse is an internet service that is rendered in 3D. Zuckerberg describes it as a “Virtual Environment” so that later on its users really feel like a real experience. Metaverse is an endless world of interconnected virtual communities, where people can meet, work and play, using virtual reality headsets, augmented reality glasses, smartphone apps or other devices. This technology will also incorporate other aspects of online life such as shopping and social media.

What Can Be Done With Metaverse?

Metaverse users can do many things such as visit virtual concerts, travel online, view or create works of art and much more. Experiences are made with Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) technology that can stimulate the user’s perception and senses so that they will experience a truly real sensation.

Can Metaverse Be Used In Education?

The same question may have arisen several years ago in the world of education, especially in Indonesia. At that time people probably never imagined what learning would be like if it was done online. However, since the Covid-19 pandemic that occurred around March 2019, all the academic community from lecturers, teachers, students, and even elementary level students have been forced to immediately adapt to online learning ( online). Therefore, it is our collective duty to prepare a generation that is competent to navigate the new universe, with the hope that our generation will not only be spectators and connoisseurs in this great shift, but will be able to become the main actors.
