LG "Won Game 6 at home" - KT "Excited to win Game 7" Fierce battle ahead

"We expect a six- or seven-game series."

The LG Twins and KT Wiz are set to battle it out in the Korean Series (KS) on the KBO's biggest stage. 

The Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) held a media day for the 2023 KBO League KS on Saturday at Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul. The LG Twins won the regular season title and advanced directly to the KS for the first time in 29 years since 1994. Regular-season runner-up KT defeated the NC Dinos 3 games to 2 in the playoffs (PO) to reach the KS stage for the second time since its inception. The head-to-head record this season is 10-6 in favor of LG. 

Both teams expected the match to be decided in games six and seven. LG looked to game six. LG coach Yeom Kyung-yeop said, "KT has a solid starting lineup and a good batting lineup, so it's always been tricky during the season. I thought it would be a hard-fought game, so I expected it to go to seven games, but I want to end it in six." "We want to win at home, so we want it to end in Game 6," said Oh Ji-hwan.

"I think baseball is a marathon," said KT manager Lee Kang-cheol, who predicted a Game 7. I think 42.195 kilometers is the distance for KS in Game 7." LG, which has been honing its game through team training and its own blue-and-white games during the postseason, is aiming to win its first KS title in 29 years with a solid quartet of Choi Won-tae, Lim Chan-kyu, and Kim Yoon-sik following Game 1 starter Casey Kelly and a sharp "spear" that leads the league in batting average (0.279) and stolen bases (166).

KT also entered the PO with 19 days of rest after the regular season ended. They were swept in Games 1 and 2 of the PO, but won Games 3 through 5 to advance to the Korean Series. Despite the unexpected drain on their stamina, the starting lineup of William Cuevas, Wes Benjamin, and Ko Young-pyo has stabilized, and the hitters are showing signs of life. They are aiming for a second win in the second Korean Series.

Meanwhile, LG will send "foreign ace" Casey Kelly to the mound for Game 1 on Sunday. Kelly bounced back in the second half of the season with a much improved 4-2 record and 2.90 ERA in 12 games, leading the team to the regular season title. She was particularly dominant in the second half, throwing seven shutout innings in two consecutive games against KT. "Kelly did a great job in the pennant race," said manager Yoon Kyung-yeop.
