They changed the church into a mosque called Küçük Ayasofya Camii, or Little Hagia Sophia Mosque. They added a tall tower called a minaret and a school for religious learning. Over the years, the mosque faced some problems like earthquakes and dampness. During wars, it even became a home for people who needed shelter.
The Minor Hagia Sophia Mosque was converted into a mosque by Hüseyin Agha during the reign of Bayezid II in 1497 (it is also said to be 1504), and the narthex, minaret, mihrab, minbar and Muezzin's Lodge were added. The architectural style of the church greatly influenced the design of the renowned Hagia Sophia, which was constructed a few years later. During the Ottoman period, the church was converted into a mosque and acquired its current name, Küçük Ayasofya Camii. Islamic features, such as minarets and a mihrab, were added to the structure.

The construction of the Little Hagia Sophia took place between 527 and 536, during the reign of Emperor Justinian I in Byzantium. In one of the city guidebooks, I read that this building is the oldest functional structure in Istanbul
