I can feel an angel sliding up to me. Hello to you all. I've been inspired by competitive battling at last and decided to hop on the 'bandwagon' with this. I read up on Blue Thunder's team here, and was inspired to create a variation of his awesome team. I based it on my two favorite legendaries from way back when, Zapdos and Latios partially due to the fact that I don't like to use Thundurus , but I've recently switched to Raikou and then to Jolteon. My team seems loosely based on his team, and it is, but I decided to switch the sets and a few Pokemon around. Now, without further adieu, my team, One Night In Bangkok. Keep in mind, I'm relatively new to the competitive scene, so I am less experienced with the metagame than most of you. One Approved ; Advanced Member. Politoed is not a very fast pokemon, so I don't see the point of running a Timid nature. I'd just run Modest to max the power output. I'd also shift the speed EVs to something like HP, Defence, Special Defence, or a combination of the 3, so you can survive longer, while still hitting hard. Latios, unless it's calm mind, really is a hit-and-run pokemon. Mostly because you run something like Specs with it if it isn't CM, but it's still hit-and-run. If you don't want it to be, I'd run Calm Mind over Recover or Surf, depending on which move you'd rather have. I'd also like to point out that without any calm mind boosts, Psyshock is a 3HKO on Blissey, and even less on Chansey, so you won't really do much to them without Specs or a Calm Mind boost. I would prefer Brick Break on Scizor, since it doesn't lower Attack and Defense like Superpower does, but that's my prefrance. Pursuit is for CB, since the opponent normally expects you to U-turn away. Once your opponent relizes that it's Swords Dance, they won't switch out, thus nuking Pursuit's usefulness. I don't see the point of running Defense EVs on Gastrodon- his defense is just bad. I'd rather put them into Special Defence, so he can more effectively wall special attackers, especially the ones that use Draco Meteor, such as Latios. Lightningrod, while being an absolutely amazing ability, is not released yet for Zapdos. Heat Wave doesn't carry the surprise factor you might think it would have. I like lightningrod. With rain in play, anything Steel that would normally take super effective damage from Fire moves will only take neutral damage instead. The only exceptions are Ferrothorn and Scizor. Ferrothorn is the only thing that gets hit harder by Heat Wave, but that won't even be an OHKO in rain, so I'd just dump it all together. I'd add Toxic instead, so you can catch Blissey, Swampert, and Gastrodon switch-ins off guard. I didn't see any hazards on this team. While Toxic Spikes and Spikes are not a big deal, Stealth Rock is a staple for pretty much every single competitive team. I don't know who to drop, but some common pokemon that set up hazards in rain teams are generally Ferrothorn, Swampert, Chansey, and Blissey. If you can fit one of them into your team, go for it. I agree with these changes, like Sorii Pames said on another site, but I can't see myself being able to replace any of these Pokemon for a SR user. Any suggestions on who and what for? Ferrothorn and Blissey, bleh. I hate having to do the egg treatment, and would rather it not be a gen V Pokemon. I also put 12 speed EVs on it to outspeed all Scizors. Gastrodon, on advice of TPO3, has gone specially defensive, and I am probably sticking with Stockpile until further testing is done. Finally, Zapdos gained Toxic to hit non-cleric walls in exchange for Heat Wave since it can't Ferrothorn as well as I'd have liked. He's a crippler as well, and like Ferrothorn, he has all the defense and switch-in coverage I need. Since I'm too lazy to get Ferrothorn, say hello to the seven-eyed iron behemoth known as Claymore. Can I have some feedback this time? I've made the big change I've been thinking on, now that Thundurus was booted from PO. Registeel replaced Gastrodon for the hazards, and Rotom-W took to Blue Thunder's Scarf set to tag with Scizor and Registeel in the Switch-and-Stealth strategy, as well as providing a suitable basic lead. I don't know what you're getting at here exactly And I didn't realize so much of the team was set in stone when I brought up Gastrodon. My apologies. I assume it outspeeds a crucial matchup. Will that ensure any notable survivals? Also, how am I actually defeating Excadrill instead of just phazing it into Spikes each time? And is SR or Spikes better? Then you just phase Excadrill out with Whirlwind. It mostly just accumulates hazard damage. Excadrill can spin the spikes away, but its easy to set them up again. Spikes is preferred on Skarmory. Provides the resistance, and it's a similar sweeper to Thundurus on this team. I'd probably swap Zapdos out. Guts CyberPhunk Member. Impressive artwork. This gives him max speed, and allows him to hit harder right off the bat, while still taking some hits from the basic physical threats. Your spread is a little simpler, but I believe this will make him a much more threatening SubCM sweeper. Also, a majority of your team is completely walled by Gastrodon. Also, make sure to watch out for Thundurus. He can hit your entire team really hard. Specially defensive Jirachi or Ferrothorn might be able to help, but he can still hit them both with super-effective or neutral damage. There really isn't anything that can counter him, besides gastro or Lanturn, lol. It's not a team-changing suggestion, just something you need to look out for. Anyways, thank you both. That's just the spread I was looking for on a Raikou. Now I can hit Excadrill and Magnezone effectively. SL, I really don't find Gastrodon a threat, oddly enough. Do you think that's enough to beat it? Plus Spikes Yes, Thunderbro is banned on the beach and Smogon. So is Excadrill. Spikes and U-turn can do a lot, but there's the off-chance that gastro goes for a scald on your switch and burns you. But you don't have to worry, since you won't be seeing Gastrodon anymore, thanks to Thundurus being banned. Zapdos just has more utility? And, we are good. Better update my threat list.
