Second, the other author is trained in psychiatry, adding a scientific view to the text. Third, the text has a lot of references, and when there are issues which have not scientifically proven or disproven, the book clearly states so. In all, I recommend this book as a source to learn more about heroin. I give it four out of five stars because its emphasis was primarily on the US and UK; a more global view would have been nice. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was not only extremely informative, historically, politically and physiologically, but also beautifully and wittily written. The angle taken gave a frsh perspective which enlightened me to a new way of thinking and encouraged much further thought.
