The breakfasts they made were simple and delicious and just right to start our days. Ricardo was available anytime we needed him and only a phone call away for answers to our questions about the property and local things to do. Very nice rooms and location. Lily and her family were very nice and friendly hosts. The breakfast was typically mexican ergo very good! Tlacolula is a wonderful choice to stay. Tlacolula has an awesome market on Sundays that is incomparable. Matatlan, the World Capital of Mezcal, is a short drive away. Mitla archeaological zone and Heirve del Agua, the petrified waterfalls, is also relatively close. Lily and her cousin Ricardo were such a great help with our trip. We took two expeditions with her to Matatlan and Hierve del Agua. They are very friendly people and provide a fantastic stay. I would recommend this place to stay if you want to visit Oaxaca. You can visit Hierve El Agua, the ruins in Mitla I believe the drive is about mins - just like commuting in LA lol , or visit nearby weaving towns known for their traditional rugs and bags. Whatever your itinerary is, Tlacolula is in the center of it all. I recommend visiting the Mercado of Tlacolula. Very clean like in the pictures. This place is very close to public and local transportation, as well as many restaurants. Our stay at the Dixza farm was a highlight of our trip to Mexico. We were fortunate to be there for Dia de los Muertos and Samuel and his family welcomed us and included us in their traditions. It was very special to us. They also shared some of their Zapotec culture, especially in the stories of their weaving designs. We took them up on their option of horseback riding and had a great time - the scenery was beautiful! However, the best part of the visit was the warmth and graciousness of our hosts. They are truly wonderful people and it was great to be able to visit them! Samuel is dedicated to make hosts feel like home, and enjoy the mexican countryside. One of those Airbnb that convince one that hotels are not the best way to travel. His looms and yarns and insect-based pigments are all set up and you get to try a hand at weaving! The room is big and the beds are super comfortable. They very much enjoyed feeding the goats and chickens, running around with the dogs and herding the cows in their close by land on the hills. We had a very nice evening in Mitla with Uri and his friends, they explain us the story of the city. The room was clean, I recommand: For the price you pay you actually get a lot more than expected. These rooms are located in unfinished building like a future hotel , nevertheless rooms are dully functional. You even have hot water! Clean bed linens, towels, everything is present. Plus you can park your can or motorcycle in the yard behind the walls very secure. So for the price less than for camping in a tent you get fullsize bed, hot water and private space. Perfect value for the money. Samuel and his family work hard. Their dad would weave for an hour or so in the morning and then head out to his job and return late in the date. And their sweet mama was a whirlwind of activity all through the day, whether teaching weaving skills to a guest or cooking up a huge batch of tamales to feed an army to tending to the livestock on the place. This is a fully functioning family farm in the Oaxacan countryside. Everyone is super welcoming and Teotitlan is a fantastic, quiet place to spend a few days or more. It is in the heart of Teotitlan Del Valle. You can hear and see the church from the top balcony. It is a family experience as the space is shared with the family. They were very kind. After being for 7 months in Mexico, this was by far the most mexican experience and the friendliest people. This beautiful, spacious house was only a step away from the Palenque. We were greeted upon arrival by Emmy and given a tour of the facility and got to see the distillation process in action so cool! Emmy was so kind and patient with our lackluster Spanish. This why private property was and it is still not entirely part of the view of life in Zapotec communities. We would also dye with another local and seasonal plant to explain how to achieve color variation and fix the dye. All materials are provided and you get a skein of yarn of every color died. We can also arrange the traditional Zapotec Temazcal with an experienced lady healer; she has been healing people for over 20 years and is well renowned in the area. The temazcal is a small adobe room which is layered with healing herbs and then steamed from the hot rocks on the fire pit. You entern the temazcal naked optional and lay down on the floor. The healer will use a bouquet of herbs and plants to bring the steam on your body, then you will start to get hot and to sweat. You tell her to stop any time and take a break inside or outside of the temazcal. You can go in and out as many times as it pleases you during the session. The idea is that when you crawl out of the Temazcal you are being born again, this time from the womb of mother earth.
