Down a private road in a remote area, with a nice view over the lake. Layout a bid odd and rambling. Popular with groups. Extensive international buffet. Service and staff a little disorganized. There is no doubting it is a fabulous setting. The rooms are very comfortable but you must remember to shut the patio doors. I went to reception whilst my wife was having a shower and when l returned found 5 monkeys in the room. We are both 60 years old and have stayed in a fair few hotels in our lives, but this one is the most unique. Here the architecture is so clever that nature comes right up to the hotel and even reaches up to your balcony The architecture alone is worth a stop and so is the very creative buffet, our suite and fantastic bathroom including a jacuzzi overlooking the jungle where we could watch the monkeys and birds play was like watching a film only it was real. Good service This is an architecturally interesting building that was probably beautiful when built. Today it sort of has the feel of a black and white Star Trek episode or tomorrow land at the original Disneyland. I spend about 5 months a year on the road especially Excellent experience. It was a huge place with lots rooms and lots characters. We got the luxury suite and our room was so nicely decorated as we were on our honeymoon. The jacuzzi was right next to the window looking out to the mountains. Amazing stretch of imagination, whoever conceived this Hotel layout. Has an amazing location between a lake and a sheer cliff.. The housekeeping seems out of control. There were sugar sachets nibbled by cockroaches. There were lizards in the bedroom. But the Jacuzzi in the room What a great way to wind down for tired travellers! Kandalama hotel never disappoints. Stunning view over the hills and lake. The food is always great and the service is superb. Also celebrated a New Years Eve here a few years back. If I am back to Sri Lanka in the future will definitely visit An amazing hotel with brilliant views. The staff were highly efficient and possibly just a little too attentive. We enjoyed swimming in the infinity pool under the stars and watching the monkeys.
