Huge actually, way more than two people can comfortably stay here. The hot water was an obvious problem, but quickly addressed and I appreciated the offer for refund so in the end it was of non-issue. The real dilemma was with the parking blocked off by a truck as if a curfew was in place that we were unaware of, and the current renting resident of cottage 3 blaring his music at 7am and his smoke coming into our cottage. The cottage is close to downtown and getting around is easy. Everything was clean and ready when we arrived. They are great to communicate with and truly want to make your stay a good one. Great place with very friendly, accommodating hosts. On the banks of the Mississippi River and only a short drive to historic downtown. If I am in Vicksburg again, I will definitely stay here. Really cool spot! My little family stopped here on our way to Texas for 2 nights and it was wonderful! As she mentioned there are some bad areas to Vicksburg but we never encountered a person who was anything less than friendly. The cottage is small but fit us, our toddler, and 2 dogs well. The cottage was clean and she had bottled water, snacks, and fresh flowers which made it super inviting. Our 2 year old had so much fun playing with their child in the garden and it was such a beautiful setting. Incredibly friendly and welcoming family, we would definitely recommend this home! Really beautiful Civil War era space. Driving into the area feels a little odd but once you park and walk into the inner courtyard it is exquisite. Set up is really lovely inside the temperature controls are perfect, communities are sweet. This unit is struggling from a lack of adequate descriptions about its set up. Largely, that this is not an entire guesthouse, but half of a very small duplex. All in all, this unit is fine for its value. It was a bedroom with private bath ensuite. Communication was great, and privacy was also great. Claude was very helpful in local tips and his location on the river is absolutely amazing. Will definitely be back. Unfortunately that meant we were only there about 12 hours. The space was a little tight, but clean and comfortable. The bathroom is very nice and the outdoor space Really enjoyed the room. But we got a good vibe from his ad so decided to give it a chance. We are sure glad we did! Claude is the sort of host that AirBnB is made for: The place is great: But what is so outstanding is the back yard. You can see the river from the bedroom window. And then you can sit in the backyard, watch the barges go by while eating the tasty pecans from the trees growing overhead! We wish we would have stayed longer. We were looking for a place close enough to midnight Mississippi for moms burial and we were fortunate to find a place that was so close to midnight and Belzoni with an excellent price! We did arrive at night and so we did have a little trouble finding the street. The rooms were well kept and cozy. There were a few bugs and maybe the place needed a once over for cleaning, but besides that it was great. We enjoyed our stay. The host is also very communicative. Great space! Will be back! We were looking for an inexpensive place for a couple of nights in Vicksburg , this place was a small older but very clean place and served our purpose. Had no issues in neighbourhood not a lot of tv channels but the price was right. Host responded quickly recommended places to eat nearby in historical district which were excellent. Comfortable room, we were the only people there during our stay so very private. Near Downtown, ate at Walnut Hills across the street and at 10 South with great views of river. Best part of our stay was breakfast at Duff Green Mansion, a beautiful antebellum house a couple of blocks away and owned by same people - amazing breakfast followed by tour of house. So much to do in Vicksburg, we really enjoyed our stay. Rick met us when we arrived and gave us great recommendations on where to go for dinner. We wanted to find a spa to get a massage and his wife Harley recommended an excellent place. The location was great and our accommodations were extremely clean which was very important to us. The only suggestion I would have is additional lighting in both the bedroom and bathroom. We had a great stay. This was a very last minute option on our road trip and it was a pleasant surprise, the communication before our arrival was great, then a quick welcome and the room was awesome with tv, a huge and very comfy bed, plus it has all a sophisticated vibe within a cottage from the early Vicksburg era. It was great! Oh and the private bath like in a old mansion it was quirky and fun to have. It would have been helpful to know that check-in is at the Duff Green Mansion, not far from Steele Cottage. After that was settled I found the cottage to be comfortable except for the bed , very clean, and filled with charming period pieces and family artifacts. Breakfast at the big table at Duff Green Mansion was delightful, as were the other guests. The tour of the Mansion was very informative. It was given by a native of Vicksburg and I appreciated his knowledge and point of view. Anthony, who takes care of things at Steele Cottage was extremely kind and helpful. It was much easier to navigate Vicksburg after speaking with him. I would recommend Steele Cottage to anyone looking for a clean, private place to stay in Vicksburg, but I would be leery of the extremely hard bed in the smaller room. Needs a little TLC and the next door neighbors are a little sketchy. Ok for a quick weekend trip. Great location! Big house with plenty of room. Very quiet neighborhood. Jeanie was very responsive. This house is roomy and convenient to downtown or the casinos. It is a great place to lay your head, as the beds were comfy and sheets were wonderful. Lots of hot water. Vicksburg is a beautiful historical city to visit and this house on National St is a perfect place to stay for a visit. There is plenty of room to rest and relax. The beds are very comfy and the heat works great. The location is perfect for easy access to all there is to do. The hostess gave excellent recommendations to make our stay the best ever. You really should try everything. Jeanie is an accommodating and easy to reach host. She was helpful and gave us lots of great tips on family-friendly things to do and places to eat. This location is easy to find and close to everything we wanted to do. It was quite a bit cheaper than booking a hotel for the same length of time as our stay. If you are considering staying here, just keep in mind it is an old house. It is a lower cost than a newer one for a reason. What a lovely place Jeanie has! She is an excellent communicator and the space is massive! Each room is huge and comfortable. We loved our quick overnight here. My only tip would be that if you are visiting in winter months plan to check in and turn the heat on in the house, then go out for a few hours. The house is currently kept at 50 degrees and it took several hours to heat enough to be comfortable. Expect to be taken back in time with the old speakeasy place. But you will have all the new amenities you could want. The location is awesome and close to many restaurants and activities. Amazing loft in the best part of Historic Vicksburg. Within walking distance to a few lovely places for dinner or drinks. The loft is huge and styled beautifully. I loved going in through the door off the street above the shops into the loft. We had a hard time leaving his beautiful loft. Amazing place, absolutely beautiful with a great View. The front door is a hundred feet from the two best restaurants in town. This loft is eclectic, original, and in a great downtown location. There is great privacy since you have the building to yourself. Remy and his wife were so responsive to communication. We were the first guests to stay at the Speak Easy since they are new to Airbnb. The place has wonderful potential, but they were still in the process of getting it 'show ready'. There are a lot of steps to climb up, so that has to be considered if a guest is challenged by such. If you plan to cook there, please check with Remy on what items you need since they were just in the process of adequately stocking the cabinets. Just high bar stool seating so that needs to be considered, too. The bed was comfy and loved having 2 bathrooms. There is history in this building, as Remy said it was in his family since , I believe. Great big windows, exposed brick, original woodwork--a step back in time. Would be really nice to know have a printed history of the building to read. The location is wonderful! Can walk everywhere in downtown Vicksburg. A quirky old house in a convenient location, but This house needs lots of attention to make it a really good and safe place to stay. It is a fire trap, with electrical wires hanging out of sockets, lights blowing when turned on and wall lights falling off walls. To make matters worse, there was no battery in the smoke alarm. The house is jammed packed with trinkets and memorabilia, adding to the quirky charm of the place, but make the place look and smell dusty. There are only three actual bedrooms. There is a day bed in a hallway, and one up in the attic which might be suitable for children, but not adults. This house really is not suitable for children given the electrical wiring issues and so much glassware within reach. The back door is almost falling off its hinges, and only one set of keys was provided which work for only one of the three locks on the back door. The hot water service was turned off, hence we had no hot water for two days. The maintenance of the grounds could be improved, including removal of dead raccoons in the driveway. Apart from all that, we really did enjoy staying in this historic house in a lovely part of town. My family 3 kids stayed in the Duff Green Suite and adjacent Nursery. These rooms provided plenty of space with beds for everyone and a nice en suite bathroom connected to the main suite. Amenities such as a swimming pool although it was too cold to use at the time and beverages coffee and soft drinks in the kitchen area across the hall from our room made for a very welcoming stay. Breakfast was served in a beautifully decorated dining room with lots of history and character. We loved the tour provided by David right after breakfast - quite fascinating! There is a small airport across the street and boats on the lake, but they did not disturb my family. The yard is well manicured and there is plenty of parking for guest.
