This used to be a must go to place for fans of Malaysian food .. but alas commercialism and tourism has caught up and prices are on the way up and quality on the way down. Many of the good restaurants have moved out and been replaced by restaurants all serving the same food. Go elsewhere if you want authentic Malaysian hawker fare.

A great way to taste Malaysia's food on the street. A wide selection of small hawker style areas and cafes. Just wander up and down before deciding where to eat. Go there a few times to find the place you love. All cuisines are there and it is extremely cheap.
Well worth the visit.

Our group had a great meal here, at the Fat Brothers Satay stall. I can especially recommend the Crab Cakes! We got to pick our sticks of skewered food, then it was cooked in front of us - you paid according to what colour the tip of the skewer is. I also had the squid which was just delicious!

Didnt eat here as we didn't have time but the food selection from all the stalls/restaurants looked delicious?.next time we will give it a try...there wereIots of people enjoying the atmosphere... Worth a try!!

It is impossible to judge the quality of the food along Jalan Alor in one review. There are so many outlets along this street of varying quality. Unfortunately I was with a group and the loudest person won out on selecting the restaurant we visited. She chose the place that had 'nice tablecloths' but this also turned out to be the emptiest restaurant, and for good reason, the food was poor and overpriced. Unfortunately I can't remember it's name. The moral of my story is to select the busy outlets. The large numbers of people at the restaurant next to ours looked like they were having delicious meals.
As for the whole street in general, it is well worth a visit. The atmosphere was amazing and still remains as a highlight of our trip despite the less than ideal food consumed on this occasion.
