Kristen Stewart has proved her longevity in Hollywood. The actress starred as Bella Swan in the Twilight series , rocketing her to fame in 2008. By 2012, she was a household name, topping Forbes ' list of the highest-paid actress in Hollywood at just 22 years old. As far as her personal life went, after first being linked in 2009, per People , Stewart eventually began a highly-publicized relationship with Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson that dominated tabloids and notched a major victory for Team Edward. However, it wasn't long before a scandal rocked the relationship.
In July 2012, the internet exploded when photos were published showing Stewart kissing a man who was decidedly not Pattinson. As one of the most famous couples in the world at the time, the story dominated the news cycle for weeks as Stewart and Pattinson seemingly hid from the media and Twi-Hards melted down online. Years after the scandal, Stewart finally opened up about the situation.
The year was 2012 and Twilight star Kristen Stewart was flying high. In addition to being co-stars, Stewart and Robert Pattinson were seemingly cohabitors, as well, with outlets like the Los Angeles Times reporting that they were living together. In terms of her professional life, Stewart was being offered roles in other blockbusters. In June 2012, Snow White And The Huntsman hit theaters, starring Stewart. It was that film which introduced Stewart to director Rupert Sanders.
After filming Snow White And The Huntsman in the U.K., Stewart was back in Los Angeles by July 2012. Back in the United States, the actress was spotted driving around with Sanders with paparazzi catching them making out on "the Westside of L.A." and "on a hiking trail that offers views of the Hollywood sign," per the Los Angeles Times . While the photographs were taken on July 17, 2012, it wasn't until late July 2012 that the images started making their rounds on the internet.
According to the Los Angeles Times , on July 19, 2012, Stewart was spotted out with Pattinson. Additionally, the couple appeared together at the Teen Choice Awards on July 22, 2012. However, on July 23, 2012, "[r]umors began to circulate that Us was preparing to publish an explosive story that Stewart was caught cheating." By July 24, 2012, US Weekly had published the photos, confirming the story. Twitter promptly exploded, and the fall out was swift.
On July 25, 2012, Kristen Stewart released an emotional statement, apologizing for "hurt and embarrassment" caused by the photos. Stewart boldly declared her love for Robert Pattinson, writing (via US Weekly ), "This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry."
While Stewart seemingly got the bulk of the attention, director Rupert Sanders came under fire, too. Sanders — who is 19 years Stewart's senior and was married with children at the time – wrote that he was "utterly distraught about the pain [he] caused [his] family." Sanders went on to say (via US Weekly ): "My beautiful wife and heavenly children are all I have in this world. I love them with all my heart. I am praying we can all get through this together."
As Twilight fans melted down , Pattinson reportedly went into hiding . While the couple did appear to take a break, they were publicly spotted together again in October 2012, per E! News . However, their reconciliation seemed to be short-lived. By May 2013, the two had broken up for good . Sanders also seemingly paid the price for his indiscretion. Per People , Sanders' wife and Stewart's Snow White And The Huntsman co-star , Liberty Ross, filed for divorce from the director in January 2013.
While jokes and lingering questions dogged Kristen Stewart for years following the scandal, it wasn't until 2019 that the actress spoke frankly about what had happened years prior. On The Howard Stern Show , Stewart opened up about the scandal and her relationship with Robert Pattinson , in general. "I've actually never been allowed to just say what happened," she reflected, adding "I was so self-conscious about seeming like an attention seeker."
Stewart has publicly come out since her relationship with Pattinson, dating model Stella Maxwell on-and-off between 2017 and 2019. While Stewart said her love with Pattinson was very real, revealing that there was "nothing [she] could do" about it, she likened her time with the Twilight cast to a college experience. With the scandal firmly in the rear-view mirror, it seems Stewart has learned a lot.

Photos of Kristen Stewart in Ch@nel's controversial Native-American-inspired pre-fall collection have recently popped up on Instagram via "Ch@nel Boy" @garcon_ch@nel . Although it's unclear exactly how a 3-month-old Instagram account with 683 followers managed such a scoop, the photos seem pretty legit, especially since they have already been removed from the account (those Ch@nel lawyers work fast!).
Supposedly shot by K@rl L@gerfeld himself, the photos feature Stewart's usual bored, disaffected glare and plenty of fringe, suede, and denim — plus cornrows! — but none of the face paint and feather headdresses that sparked so much outrage at the brand's Dallas runway show in December.

Kristen Stewart suffered an embarrassing nip-slip while talking to Emma Raducanu and Whitney Peak at this year's Met Gala .
The Spencer actress was seated at the same table as the 18-year-old tennis champ and Gossip Girl reboot star, also 18, at the fashion fundraiser in New York in September.
The performer noted that when she took off her bold thrilly Chanel jacket, she accidentally exposed her nipples to the teenagers.

The 31-year-old star recalled to People : 'There was a beautiful young tennis player [Raducanu] and a young actress [Peak].'
Stewart then noted that, although she tried to be friendly to the two, she accidentally suffered a wardrobe malfunction at the table.
'I'm talking to them, saying, "Welcome, I've done this a couple times," and they look like I'm scaring them. I look down, and literally my [nipple] is in their faces,' she said.
The performer attempted to play off the accident and recalled: 'I was like, "Okay, sorry, I'll put that away now."'

Stewart expressed that the two would likely have fun remembering the incident later in life.
'They're like, "Who is this crazy old actress at the Met Ball?" This is going to be a story for them when they're older,' she stated.
The performer is currently celebrating after getting engaged to Dylan Meyer.

The actress recently revealed that she is set to wed her partner of almost two years and praised the Moxie writer for 'nailing it' with her proposal.
She confirmed: 'We're marrying, we're totally gonna do it. I wanted to be proposed to, so I think I very distinctly carved out what I wanted and she nailed it. We're marrying, it's happening.'
The performer had previously admitted that she couldn't 'f***** wait' to propose to her girlfriend and even knew exactly how she would pop the question.

Speaking after they had been together for three months, she gushed: 'I think good things happen fast.'

'When you know, you know. You know what I mean? There is nothing like feeling sure about anything, because we don't know anything. And that is the only thing you can feel like you know, is that if you're in love with someone,' she stated.

It’s never okay to invade someone’s privacy and violate them sexually—which is exactly what hackers do when they steal and leak nude celebrity photos.
Hollywood has a long and problematic history with photo hacking. When someone is famous, the public assumes they have have an all access pass into their private life. But despite what those who hack graphic photos—and those who view them—may believe, you need permission from a woman to to view her body, even if she’s posing half naked on the cover of a magazine. Same goes for dudes.
Kristen Stewart, Stella Maxwell and Miley Cyrus are the most recent victims of sexual violation. Explicit images of the three young woman began circulating the dark web on August 22, and the stars have since taken legal action to have them removed from Internet porn sites. The new leak also included images of Tiger Woods his ex-girlfriend, Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn.
Despite the progress that’s been made to persecute the hackers and sympathize with the victims, these attacks continue to happen. Here’s a look back at dark history of perpetrators, targets, legal consequences, and emotional responses involved in Hollywood’s nude photo leaks.
In September of 2011, Internet hacker Christopher Chaney accessed images belonging to more than 50 woman in the entertainment industry, including Scarlett Johansson and Mila Kunis.
Johansson responded to the leak in a Vanity Fair interview. ““[The photos] were sent to my husband. I know my best angles […] There’s nothing wrong with that. It’s not like I was shooting a porno. Although there’s nothing wrong with that either.”
According to a GQ article , Chaney used social media to guess celebs’ email addresses and security question answers. The leak was investigated by the FBI , and in a 2012 trial Chaney pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
On August 31, 2014, hacker Ryan Collins leaked 500 intimate photos he’d stolen from celebrities over a period of two years. Acting without censorship or moral boundary, Collins used a simple phishing scam to hack an estimated 72 Gmail and 50 iCloud accounts . He sent his victims emails masked as notifications from Apple or Google, asking users re-enter their login data.
The images were shared on sites like 4chan and Reddit, which allow users to anonymously share uncensored content. It wasn’t until September 6 that the latter website finally deleted the subreddit titled “r/TheFappening,” a forum which acted as the primary distribution channel of the nude photos.
Jennifer Lawrence, Kirsten Dunst and Kaley Cuoco are among the victims who confirmed their involvement in the photo leak and spoke out about their experience.
Lawrence has been particularly vocal, condemning those who hacked her and also those who viewed the photos. “Anybody who looked at those pictures, you’re perpetuating a sexual offence and you should cower with shame,” she told Vanity Fair .
Cuoco reacted a little differently. “It was a really bad situation,” the Big Bang Theory actress said on Jimmy Kimmel Live! “I decided to take it into my own hands and made a joke about it, because what else are you going to do?”
Dunst took to Twitter, and went after Apple with a simple 2-emoji euphemism.

On October 15, 2014, FBI agents entered the Chicago home of Emilio Herrera, whose IP address was linked to over 572 cyber hacking attacks . The “female celebrities” involved in the hack were listed as victims, and only by initials: “A.S., C.H., H.S., J.M., O.W., A.K., E.B., and A.H.” These initials reportedly referred to Abigail Spencer, Christina Hendricks, Hope Solo, Jennette McCurdy, Olivia Wilde, Anna Kendrick, Emily Browning, and Amber Heard.
After pleading guilty , 36-year-old Pennsylvania resident Collins was sentenced to just 18 months in prison.
Exactly one year after Collins was sentenced, stolen photos of Amanda Seyfried and Emma Watson began circulating the dark web.
Watson was not naked in the private images, but that didn’t stop her from taking legal action against the hackers who invaded her privacy. “Photos from a clothes fitting Emma had with a stylist a couple of years ago have been stolen. They are not nude photographs,” Watson’s publicist, Luke Windsor, told USA TODAY in a statement. “Lawyers have been instructed and we are not commenting further.”
