Krag Stripper Clips by bote » Mon Oct 31, 2016 11:24 pm Just got a couple of Psteinmayer's stripper clips. These things are amazing. I can load my Krags faster than a 1903, 1917, Mosin, or Mauser. If the US military ever gets wind of these they'll muster the Krags back into service. psteinmayer Posts: 2745 Joined: Tue Aug 30, 2011 2:31 am

I give you credit for using a Krag for your "go to gun", but seriously you need to chop that barrel down to a manageable length. I do like the stripper clips, but wasn't the whole idea of the Krag feeding arrangement to not have to use a clip?
Parkhurst Clip-Loading Device In 1892, the US Army adopted the Krag-Jørgensen to replace the single-shot Trapdoor Springfield. The new Krag M1892 had a 5-round rotary magazine which was loaded by hand with individual .30-40 Krag rounds. However, by the Spanish-American War of 1898 the Krag was essentially an obsolete design. The Spanish troops that American soldiers faced were typically ...
While many other rifles of its era use an integral box magazine loaded by a charger or stripper clip, the magazine of the Krag-Jørgensen is integral with the receiver (the part of the rifle that houses the operating parts), featuring an opening on the right hand side with a hinged cover.
The Krag-Jørgensen is often remembered for its smooth bolt and clever magazine system, but it wasn't without its flaws. In this video, we take a closer look at some of the rifle's biggest ...
Krag-Jorgensen parts diagram. Mauser introduced their Spanish Model of 1893 and that rifle made use of a stripper clip for the first time. This proved to be unfortunate for the United States when it found itself embroiled in the Spanish-American War in 1898.
The British encountered mobile and superior 'rifle shots', with stripper-clip 7mm Mausers, during the Boer War. 'David' made 'Goliath' rethink training, rifle & sight configuration, charger-loading, and bullet caliber, weight, and velocity. The U.S. probably had a more 'clouded' lesson in the War with Spain.

The Krag-Jorgensen rifle represents a pivotal moment in military firearm evolution, bridging the gap between single-shot rifles and the modern bolt-action era. Though its design flaws were exposed by combat, it remains an engineering marvel, beloved for its smooth action, accuracy, and historical significance.

If your rifle has a forward mount (and a vertical magazine) does that mean it definitely can be loaded by clips, or just maybe? Is a stripper clip in a given caliber (say, 308 Win or 7mm-08) universal to all rifles, or do you have to get a clip specific to your model?
Taken at the Springfield Armory Museum, this modification to the Krag Jorgenson allowed it to be reloaded via stripper clip. Only 200 of these are in existence; half of them on rifles and the other half carbines (as seen here).

The Army designed a new action, which used stripper clips so similar to the Mauser's that the U.S. Government had to pay royalties to the Mauser company. The action itself was a combination of Mauser and Krag features, and in 1903 was accepted as the new service rifle.
Though the majority of that era's rifles were loaded by chargers or stripper clips, the Krag could be charged quickly by feeding single rounds through the right-hand side loading gate, from ...

Because of it, the stripper clip forced the U.S. military to give up the Krag after few years of use, because it was impractical to use stripper clips when reloading the Krag, and lessons from the battlefield, when fighting adversaries using Mausers with stripper clips, tought the americans and the british an expensive lessons, and soon after ...
The year of 2020 saw the release of the Waypoint, a lightweight hunting/precision bolt-action rifle. Four generations of ammo show three major improvements in how that ammo is loaded into the rifles. At left are two 30-40 Krag cartridges that were loaded individually. Second from left are 30-06 Springfield rounds in a stripper clip for the 1903.
The original Norwegian Krag was designed to load from a stripper clip, and this problem could have been solved if there had been a will to do so. Ultimately, it was "Mauser envy" that ended efforts to improve the US Krag.
The American version of the Krag-Jorgensen rifle, officially known as the Magazine Rifle, Model of 1892, holds the unique distinction of being the first smokeless powder rifle adopted by the U.S. Army. It also has one of the shortest service lives of any U.S. rifle; having been adopted by the Army during a time of explosive technological growth that quickly rendered established norms and ideas ...

The Mauser's edge was its ability to quickly reload via a stripper clip, while the Krag rifle was loaded one round at a time. The .30-40 Krag caliber was outclassed too: The 7x57mm had a farther effective range and was more accurate.

If I can find stripper clips then I'd be inclined to make this rifle, fed with some very tailored handloads, kind of my go to rifle. I mean, the AR is still a fine carbine, but a rifle should be in at least .30 caliber.
A fully original Krag rifle that you'd play with in Battlefield V is formally referred to as a Krag-Jorgensen Model 1892, but relatively few M92s were actually produced by the Springfield Armory because of changes to the rifle made by the Quartermaster General to improve accuracy and reliability.

This neatly prevented the use of stripper clips for loading, and became important in the Navy adoption of the Magazine Lee-Enfield (or MLE) Rifle. The Krag's magazine cutoff design dealt with the usual Ordnance concern that the troops would "waste ammo by shooting too quickly"!
While the 1895 Winchester was not designed to be fed from a stripper clip, neither was the Krag Jorgensen. The Springfield 1903 rifle was fitted with a stripper clip, after the Mauser rifle.
The Spanish Mauser could also be loaded with a 5-round charger (stripper-clip), a much faster system than the one-by-one loading of the Krag magazine. While both the Mauser and Krag used smokeless powder cartridges, the U.S. Army troops using the Trapdoor Springfield rifle with its black powder cartridges were at an extreme disadvantage, locked ...
A short speed run with a Krag rifle and a Mosin clip.
The Johnson rifle magazine is a "rotary" magazine holding ten cartridges. The rifle is reloaded through a side gate, a bit like the Krag, certainly, but using M1903 chargers or "stripper clips." The Dutch (and Romanian...and Portuguese navy) manually-operated turn-bolt 6.5mm Mannlicher rifle uses a Mannlicher-type clip holding five cartridges.

Though a stripper-clip or charger loading modification to the Krag was designed, it was clear to Army authorities that a new rifle was required. After the U.S. military's experience with the Mauser rifle in the 1898 Spanish-American War, authorities decided to adopt a stronger Mauser-derived bolt-action design equipped with a charger- or ...

The primary long gun wielded by American forces during this fight was the Springfield Model 1892-1899 "Krag." The Rifles The formal appellation Springfield Model 1892-1899 describes the several subvariants of the Krag-Jorgensen bolt-action repeating rifle developed in the late 19 th century.
Lee's rejection was a shame really as Lee was an American and his concepts made for a really superior bolt-action rifle and one that could accept additional technological improvements as they became available. The stripper clip, 8 to 10 round magazines, and many years later, adaptation to the 7.62 NATO comes to mind.

In its military bolt action rifle 303 British and 7.62 Nagant used chargers (stripper clips). The 30 US Army may have been able to be loaded into 303 chargers, but I understand the experimental charger for the US Krag was significantly different in configuration compared with the British and Russian chargers. 1.
Mine doesn't. ; . Signature feature: The Krag's s side-loading magazine (below) held five rounds and could be single-loaded easily. However, from a military standpoint, the Mauser-style stripper clip was one of the factors in favor of the Krag's successor — the 1903 Springfield.
Mauser clips were introduced in 1889, and are also called stripper or charger clips. On these, the clip acts only as a guide to load the cartridges into a separate magazine, either a fixed internal magazine or a detachable box magazine.
This system was quicker to reload than contemporary tube magazines in addition to not affecting rifle balance as ammunition was depleted, but prevented the rifle from using later-developed stripper clips. Despite this drawback, production of the Krag-Jørgensen continued until 1951, with around 750,000 rifles being made in total.
An impressive firearm, it nonetheless had to be loaded slowly, by hand. This meant that it was best suited for deliberate, well-aimed fire. Conversely, the Spanish and Filipinos used the German-designed Mauser rifle, which could be loaded through the top of the magazine with a stripper clip, a much faster and smoother process.
This Krag carbine was issued to the Norwegian Royal Engineers. SN 10951 Named for its inventors, Norwegian Royal Artillery officer Ole Hermann Johannes Krag and civilian Erik Jorgensen, the Krag-Jorgensen rifle was the first small-caliber smokeless power repeating long arm to be adopted by the U.S. Army. This rifle also marked the beginning of the change from large-caliber/low muzzle velocity ...
The gentleman that authored the article on page 47 does not seem to be happy with the delay of the 1903 Springfield for the troops and still believed that the Krag could be modified for stripper clips and be a superior weapon.
The Model 1899 Krag Carbine, which was manufactured until 1902, was the final variant of the Krag-Jorgensen rifle to be manufactured by the U.S. Armory at Springfield. Approximately 36,000 were produced before production was halted due to the adoption of the Mauser-patterned Model 1903 Springfield rifles. (I try to avoid "stripper clip" as a nonsense term invented by us poor Yanks who have trouble differentiating between "clip" and "charger" - adding "stripper" to enhance our confusion. Of course back in the Krag era, we called them all "packets".::)) Hagen was a significant presence even back when Oslo was called Kristiana (pre-1925).
The Krag-Jørgensen is a repeating bolt action rifle designed by the Norwegians Ole Herman Johannes Krag and Erik Jørgensen in the late 19th century. It was adopted as a standard arm by Denmark, the United States and Norway. A distinctive feature of the Krag-Jørgensen action was its magazine. While many other rifles of its era used an integral box magazine, the magazine of the Krag ...
