KORUA Shapes Tranny Finder 2018-2019 Snowboard Review

Until the  KORUA Otto  came along, the KORUA Tranny Finder snowboard was the most conventional offering from Nicholas Wolken & Stephan Maurer’s brand. It’s great fun for carving, obviously, but its strengths don’t stop there.
The KORUA Tranny Finder has a setback camber profile with a long rocker section towards the front. This is ideal for powder, as it’s easier to keep the nose out of trouble, but it also makes for smoother turns on piste. You don’t need to treat this one as a precision tool, so you can afford to get a bit more creative as you descend.
“Whether it’s pillows or slushy banks, the shape gives you a lot of options”
You can afford to downsize a little, as the KORUA Tranny Finder is pretty beefy through the waist. Whether it’s pillows or slushy banks, the shape gives you a lot of options, so whatever the conditions you’ll find something to take this to. On piste you can engage the whole sidecut to get a quality carve, or you can press the hell out of the wide nose and tail. It’s all good.
If you’re a carving purist then this isn’t the KORUA for you – the rest of the range has you well covered. But if you like your Eurocarves with a side of slush-slashing and maybe even some park laps, the KORUA Tranny Finder should be on your radar.
“Before KORUA released its latest addition to their collection, the Otto, the Tranny Finder was the most freestyle focused their line. Using the same flex and profile of all the other boards in the line (apart from the new Otto) Korua relies on the different shapes of the boards to change their performance.
I am slightly over 6 feet tall and own the Tranny finder 157, I could of definitely gone for one of the longer boards in their line but coming from a mostly freestyle background I didn’t want to sacrifice too much manoeuvrability when I get #OccasionalAirTime (a tagKORUA often use on the gram).
“Allowed me to go deeper into turns and get more angulated on the piste than I’d ever been before!”
I was intimidated at first by the stiffness of the board but soon realised that a flex 7 feels just like a flex 4 if you go fast enough! The stiffness obviously helps for going full speed, and with it being wider than your usual freestyle deck it floats in powder effortlessly and allowed me to go deeper into turns and get more angulated on the piste than I’d ever been before!
I think the term is called ‘trench digging’ because your edge is angled so much when you carve you leave a deep line in the snow in your wake. I don’t know, but I’m definitely getting into a whole new and exciting type of riding thanks to this board.”

But fear not - there is plenty to explore...
It's time to surf the frozen world with the Korua Shapes Tranny Finder Snowboard. Just like a shorter, responsive surfboard, the Tranny Finder has a freestyle edge to the way it rides. A Camber Float profile creates lift and response across the entire mountain, making it perfect for cliff launches and cornice drops alike. With a Poplar Light core for liveliness, it'll be hard to ignore the limitless airtime options with the Korua Shapes Tranny Finder underfoot.

Float Camber

Korua Shapes smooth float-camber curves into a rockered shape in the nose area creating an "S" like shape. This design gives you the lift you need in deep powder, improving float while maintaining speed throughout the whole turn. On the other hand it also offers response and stability when going for airs or simply turning in variable conditions.
