When Avatar: The Last Airbender aired its final episode, fans everywhere were eager to know what the next chapter of the beloved franchise would entail, and the next effort turned out to be a very controversial spinoff in the form of The Legend of Korra . After four seasons, it was quietly canceled by Nickelodeon, but considering its cult following and popularity on Netflix , many have come to wonder if The Legend of Korra season 5 will ever see the light of day.
The series followed a new Avatar named Korra 70 years after the previous endeavor’s events and explored in great detail the mythology of Avatar: The Last Airbender , expanding everything fans loved about the property. It was announced before the series second season premiere by creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael DiMartino that Nickelodeon had ordered 26 episodes, which would be split into the third and fourth seasons, so it seemed like there was no stopping The Legend of Korra season 5 from following not too long after.
Unfortunately, ratings for the animated series dropped hard, and Nickelodeon didn’t even air the fourth chapter on television, instead, releasing the entire thing online. The confusion caused many fans to miss the final installment, but thanks to Netflix, everyone can enjoy what hopefully isn’t the last chapter of Korra’s legacy.
Given the fact that the action-packed fantasy series has done so well in its short time occupying the streaming powerhouses’ impressive library, it would not be the worst idea for Netflix to keep the party going and greenlight The Legend of Korra season 5. The franchise has seen an unprecedented resurgence in popularity, and if there ever was a time to bring audiences around the world a new chapter, its sooner rather than later.
While most of us wish this were not the case, there is no word on any release date for The Legend of Korra season 5. Even though the series topped the charts on Netflix, indicating subscribers are ready for more from the brilliant franchise.
It’s not hard to believe that many fans out there are scratching their heads as to why there aren’t any new episodes of either Avatar: The Last Airbender or The Legend of Korra . Writer Aaron Ehasz claims that Avatar: The Last Airbender season 4 was discussed, so it’s not entirely crazy to fathom The Legend of Korra season 5 could one day occupy a slot on Netflix’s release roster.
The focus, however, is on the live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender, which the original series’ creators have just departed over creative differences. One could argue this is The Legend of Korra season 5’s destiny coming to fruition as the creators who Netflix would not have to creatively interfere with because of their proven track record with the story are now available, and animation is much cheaper than the alternative.
There is no denying that there is a serious demand for the fifth season of The Legend of Korra, and it seems like an excellent opportunity for Netflix to cash in on considering how well it has been received on its platform. While fans wait for a release date to arrive for the hugely desired fifth installment, all the memorable moments from the first incredibly enthralling four seasons are on Netflix now.
If The Legend of Korra season 5 is ever to arrive, it would be crazy if the major players didn’t return to voice all the fan-favorites. Its also safe to assume that their will be plenty of new faces added to the mix as well, resulting in a series, that if it ever arrives, would absolutely be number one contender for Netflix.
It would be an absolute shame if Janet Varney weren’t able to voice the main character Korra in the highly anticipated next chapter. Out of all the members of the talented cast, she is beyond more than vital as her skills, mannerisms, and execution made the female Avatar a hit with fans all over the world.
Unlike Avatar: The Last Airbender , the voice talents that make up the cast of The Legend of Korra are some pretty big names, and it would be interesting to see who would return for The Legend of Korra season 5. Heavy-hitters like Aubrey Plaza, J.K. Simmons, Kiernan Shipke, Lance Henrikson, and many more have made their way to the booth for the animated series, and fans are very enthusiastic to see who would fill the roster if the adventure was to continue.
Whoever they decide to get for The Legend of Korra season 5, fans will just be extremely satisfied more episodes are on the way. Until then, all they can do is enjoy the four seasons available on Netflix.
There has been no synopsis released for The Legend of Korra season 5, and we’d have to advise everyone to continue to be patient when it comes to the arrival of the next chapter’s storyline. Nothing has been made official, but many savvy Korra fans can guess where things would go down the road.
The narrative picked up right after the Nickelodeon animated series ended online in comic books from creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. The first was titled Turf Wars and released its three issues from July 2017 to Aug. 2018.
Ruins of the Empire followed in May 2019 with the third issue arriving in Feb. 2020 and a third adventure is on the way. There are also two short stories that The Legend of Korra season 5 could utilize written by DiMartino called Friends for Life and Lost Pets, which were released on Free Comic Book day in 2016 and 2018.
There is no shortage of ideas already in place that could make up The Legend of Korra season 5, leaving many to continue to wonder why Netflix won’t defy the odds like they have done so many times in the past and bring subscribers more Korra.
Unfortunately, fans have to rewatch the first four seasons on Netflix, replay the video games, or re-read the graphic novels, because there is no trailer for The Legend of Korra season five, and its safe not to expect one to arrive anytime soon. If a teaser should ever arrive showcasing there is more Korra to come, we will be sure to share it with everyone.
