Korra may be the last airbender in The Legend of Korra, but there are tons of Korra cosplayers out there. Here are some you absolutely have to see!
One of the most memorable parts of The Legend of Korra , though of course not to discredit its world-building and the stronger points of the plot, has to be the cast of characters who inhabit its colorful world. Seventy-one years after Aang emerges from ice to take on the crushing destiny of saving the world from destruction, Avatar Korra emerges as his successor . While things initially don't seem quite as dark, Korra has quite a lot to learn about the true nature of the world and her own destiny, as well.
Unlike the air nomad that originally won the hearts of fans everywhere, Korra was initially based in the Southern Water Tribe, making air the element she struggles with the most throughout the series. Her own emotions and reckless behavior are some of her biggest enemies early on, but they also make her a more realistic character that many couldn't help but latch onto. Combine that with the fact that she manages to look equal parts comfortable and stylish, and it's no wonder so many cosplayers fell in love with the new Avatar.
Ever since she's first shown on-screen, and especially in the earlier parts of the series, Korra wears her Avatar badge with pride. She's not afraid to admit who she is to anyone who asks, and her control over earth, water and fire are already quite exemplary. That prideful talent of hers is displayed perfectly in this shot of Meevers-Desu , captured just as well by Torremitsu . Not only is her cosplay spot-on, but the choice to have the water effects coming out of the small water fountain on the ground is a great (and accurate!) touch, as waterbenders can't simply summon their element from nothing.
One of the best aspects of the series has to be its landscapes, as viewers are taken through not only Republic City and the Air Temple islands, but sprawling forests and even chilly winter landscapes. That expansive, biting winter cold is the main focal point of XenochromeX's Korra shot, and it worked out wonderfully. The view of the clear winter sky and slope sprawling out before her is picture-perfect, and her cosplay looks incredibly realistic- and must be quite warm- which is icing on the snow-topped cake.
Early on in the series, Korra is a bright and bold girl absolutely brimming with personality and confidence, and W0lfieRose couldn't have captured that spirit of hers any better. She looks like she's in her natural element as Korra, with her costume and especially the styling of her hair being incredibly accurate. To top it off, the location of the shot looks like it could easily be from the forest that Korra gets a good deal of character development in, which is a great touch.
Korra and Asami are both incredibly intelligent , driven young women who help each other grow and overcome hardships- both internal and external- throughout the series. However, especially at the end of the series, it's clear that they never shine quite as bright as they do when they're with each other, and jasonzakuto captures their radiant shine wonderfully in this shot.
Both heilimei and gelinavii do a phenominal job of portaying Korra and Asami, respectively, and their happiness is almost infectious. There's something so utterly inspiring about seeing them be so open and happy with one another that makes for such a sweet shot.
It's always impressive whenever a cosplayer is so confident in their abilities that they put up a side-by-side comparison with the character themselves, and leiracosplays definitely earned it with her amazing portrayal. Every part of her outfit looks like a lot of time and care went into making sure everything came out just right, but the wig especially is well-styled. She mentions that she couldn't think of a cool pose other than the classic 'hands-on-hips' approach, but it works well for getting Korra's personality across.
Korra starts out as a confident character, convinced in the power of her own abilities despite whatever hardships life might try to throw at her. No matter how relentless her enemies, she charges them with a brave face, which couldn't have been captured any more perfectly than in this shot of ithileryn . Not only do her outfit and wig look absolutely stunning, with every detail shockingly accurate down to the makeup, but her pose is perfect for the justice-serving Avatar.
The confident spirit that Korra possesses in the first book is practically unmatched for the rest of the series, and that fiery attitude is on full display here with phoebeb96's Korra. Their costume looks both incredibly accurate and incredibly comfortable, and anyone who's had to navigate a convention center for a weekend is all too familiar with how important the latter can be. The cosplayer mentions in their description that this was an updated take on their very-first cosplay ever, and their love for Korra comes through clearly.
One of Korra's biggest struggles throughout the series was being able to tap into the Avatar State , as it requires peace of mind that Korra found herself lacking as the series went on. However, when she finally did manage to tap into her hidden power, it's one of the most powerful scenes in the series, and blueferret_cosplay managed to capture that aura perfectly.
Every part of their cosplay looks phenomenal, from the outfit and wig to the accuracy of the contacts themselves. The post includes a version where she isn't in the Avatar State as well, and it's easy to tell from their description how much Korra means to them.
Early on, there isn't a single other character who can match the boundless tough-guy confidence that radiates from Korra, and akakioga captured that energy wonderfully in this shot. Unlike Aang who was uncertain about whether he could handle his destiny early on- or even if he wanted to- Korra accepted and flaunted her Avatar title with pride . Her hair works wonderfully for Korra's, and her pose and expression simply convey that trademark 'deal with it' confidence that Korra possessed in heaps.
Korra is relatively self-assured in the beginning- that is, of course, until the Equalists begin to rise up and she learns about the existence of Amon, the group's leader who possessed the ability to take away others' bending. She is eventually able to best him, tapping into her own potential and finally successfully airbending for the first time as well. Their little showdown couldn't have been portrayed better than in this shot of vsol_cosplay and whenam.inothungry as Korra and Amon, respectively. Korra's indecision as to how to handle him shines through in the first shot, and the poses in the last shot are such a visual joy.
