So did you go for "cute", Kim? I ask because "tight a***" certainly has a range of meanings ...
Erratum: for "Errata" above read "Erratum".
Something tells me the ladies are more familiar with these terms than the gents. - I meant to say that although I need a term for a male bottom or male with a nice bottom, in my experience the ladies use the most vivid terms for this part of the anatomy.
RB:No, I don't think so. Stephen's "beefcake" answer refers to the man, the others may have chosen the other interpretation deliberately. I did for my answer, otherwise it would have had a negative connotation.
Do you require a US, UK or transatlantic term , Kim?
Am I the only person to have noticed that the term here refers to the man, not the arse? Of course the man is being described as having a "knackigen Arsch".

This is a funny scene from a German TV show about science. The walk-on actor (Komparse) has removed his trousers so that the star of the show can demonstrate how to remove chewing gum stuck to the bottom of the walk-on's trousers. A knackiger Arsch is a sexy bottom, but I've already used "sexy" and would appreciate your suggestions for a more lively expression than sexy. Something tells me the ladies are more familiar with these terms better than the gents. Widerwillig entledigt sich der Komparse seiner Hose. Applaus für den gut gecasteten Knackarsch in Boxershorts.
Explanation: There are many possible translations for this. :-)
Muchas gracias for the wonderful selection of terms. I know I should have stated that this time I wasn't looking for an AE term. 4 KudoZ points were awarded for this answer
Muchas gracias for the wonderful selection of terms. I know I should have stated that this time I wasn't looking for an AE term.
Trudy Peters : I like a cute ass :-) Bum would be buns in the US.
-> Thanks, Trudy. As far as I know, "bum" (=ass) is primarily used in the UK.
Richard Benham : Or "arse" for outside Nth America.
Yngve Roennike : you'd say tight buns in the US. Tight bum is not really appropriate.
-> Yes, maybe you're right, but this is not really the point here, isn't it?//Don't know for sure whether "tight" and "bum" collocate, but at least "bum" is fine; it's widely used in the UK.
Rebecca Garber : cute or nice ass/butt.
Nancy Arrowsmith : tight buns - a woman wouldn't say cute. He's cute, but his buns are tight.
Hilary Davies Shelby : i'd say "cute butt" - but also "gorgeous bum" - would depend on whether my audience was US or UK...
Ford Prefect : That just about covers all the good answers. What a bummer.
Rebecca Garber : beefcake and eye candy refer to the whole, not just the butt.
Brie Vernier : Sorry, this American has never heard the term "beefcake"
Trans-Marie : Den Ausdruck benutzt man fuer maennliche Hintern (wie auch im obigen Beispiel), nicht weibliche, daher Kim's Bemerkung.
-> sorry, I disagree..have heard women's posteriors also referred to as such in Germany
-> ... that someone would want a bite?
BirgitBerlin : It's a male ass after all. "Bum" is too female.
Richard Benham : There is nothing feminine about the term "bum". Of course, outside Nth America, it's "arse".//See also my note to Kim.//I was just covering all possibilities. Here in Australia, "bum" can be either a rear end or a no-hoper, etc.
-> Thank you Richard. I'm pretty sure I checked the US Eng box. "Bum" in US English is only a type of person, either homeless/unemployed or a no-good, "bastard" or similar. The verb " to bum sth" means to want something for no money: "Can I bum a cigarette?"
Rebecca Garber : nice ass is *definitely* beach commentary. Kim, are you having fun yet?
IanW (X) : Your "well-cast tight butt in boxer shorts" does it for me (so to speak)
  -> Hmmm, Ian,...I just don't know what to say...(blush)....
Hilary Davies Shelby : yes, i'd go with this.
Trudy Peters : Reminds me of a little kid in the bathtub :-)
Brie Vernier : Even though it may very well be used this way, I would never use "bubble butt" as a compliment//Absolutely!
-> Would you use the German expression as a compliment?
IanW (X) : "Bubble butt" isn't a compliment, whereas "Knackarsch" is (I have it on my CV)
Hilary Davies Shelby : i have this on good authority that this is used only for large-bottomed women (fat-bottomed girls? ;-)), and never for a guy...
-> ...they still make the rocking world go round.
Richard Benham : "Butt-tastic" doesn't work for me. And we say "arse", not "ass". [...]//"perfectly formed" is a bit over the top, but "firm" is very close to the German.
-> Fair enough. Howz about "perfectly formed behind" etc. ?
Ian M-H (X) : yes - a tad subtler and works well IMO
Brie Vernier : I like "prime specimen"
Hilary Davies Shelby : i like this too (was going to suggest it till i saw you had ;-)) - but changed my mind when I realised that "applause for the prime specimen in his boxer shorts" sounded a bit...excretory?...Maybe it's just me??? ;-)
-> Yes, you'd have to rephrase the sentence a little
Textklick : Too much "laboratory meets butcher shop" IMHO ;-)
Woodstock : I like prime specimen, but find it too genteel/understated for this situation, which is more in the direction of slapstick. The last ("cheeky") one would work better, IMO. Subtle humor is definitely wrong for this scenario! ;-))
Textklick : Tasty ass is more what the male of the species would use in the UK, but if it's cool with you it's fine with me ;-) Any UK ladies agree?
