I feel compelled to write a short review for Kittie's debut album. I was exposed to this album around the time it came out and its a nice little metal album, I mean really it could of sucked, its kind of silly in a way, not that I dont take Kittie seriously as a band, but their debut is different from their more recent stuff, but its whats to be expected from teenage metal girls, this album and Kittie in general around this time seemed very influenced by mainstream metal icons Slipnot and Korn, while im not a fan of those bands this cd is very listenable to me and it does rock. Kittie did progress as a band after this and I feel got better, for instance listen to their next album Oracle as compared to Spit. Oracle is a much more refreshing metal album to me, the musicianship is better and the vocals are better. In general it is a much more mature album. I get the feeling that they began to take their artform(metal) more seriously, not that they didnt take it seriously enough with Spit, but I feel they were immersed in the world of being silly teenage girls. For instance watch the Kittie live video of this album called "Spit in your eye" and you get the idea, the video gives you the whole album live with the exception of I think mabey two or three songs. Kittie fans will definitelty want to pick this up as the concert that the video includes is Kittie's first headline gig. So one can see some of the earliest live Kittie stuff and it is a good find cause it also includes lots of footage of Kittie being Kittie outside of concert. This is where one gets the idea of Kittie being silly teens, but then again the band members were all like 16?? or so when this came out.bye.
I'm seeing a lot of negative reviews here, mostly from hard-core metal fans. I understand the critisism, but what we have here are girls that could probably go mainstream with their great song-writing skills, but they refuse to sell out. Some of these songs could probably go top 40 if it weren't for the screaching overdubs. Personally I think they're better off cuz look what happened to Kurt and Courtney when they sold out. Some people just need to be anti-society to be actualized, and I say good for them. Besides they're only 15-17 yrs old on this album!
Great CD. Unfortunately had to buy this to replace my original copy from when the album first came out.
I still think this is Kittie's prime CD. A lot of good metal with no "just making an album" songs added. Between this CD and Oracle, it's hard to choose which is better but I tend to listen to this one more.

these chicks know how to rock-from a to z and in between!they will take you on a journey into a world you never knew could exist!the lovely little ballad"brackish"-will kick you in the teeth and send you to the dentist crying in pleasure!!!check this classic out!i own it-i should know!!!!!

Good but not brilliant
The most angry woman ever recorded apparently belongs to this band,This band are a bit like Coal Chamber they are kind of the good but in a lesser class as some of their contemporaries they just lack something too make them big players in the new metal scene. Not sure what though the riffs are catchy the band is heavy perhaps there is just not quite enough explosive energy to it. That said the album went gold so it isn't that bad
excellent band. one of there best. cd and cover is in mint condition. much better than paying mental prices at a record fair.
Ich habe die Lieder Brackish und Paperdoll auf einer Maxi CD gehört und war sofort begeistert. Deshalb habe ich mir das Album gekauft. Allerdings haben die Aufnahmen nichts mit der Maxi CD zu tun. Sie hören sich echt schlecht aufgenommen an. Schade
