It is not that far from the downtown near Kokura station but this area still has that 'retro' feeling as you can assume from it's name. There are many spots to take pretty photos and restaurants to get some snack and drinks. And souvenir shops in there are amazing. Very nice feel to the area, most scenic seaside venue, cool and enjoyable. The orange lighting made it even more retro, and I was able to enjoy the atmosphere even in the rain! During the day you can see the bridge being raised for ships entering the harbor! The fountain in front of the station is lit up, and the night view from the Mojiko Observatory is a spot that you can enjoy even on a rainy night! Nice atmosphere. We visited on Sunday. They had a nice weekend market. Many shops and food stalls. Lovely place, near the waters. Quiet and clean. Should visit earlier as restaurants and shops are closed at 8pm. So hot!! Temperature hot! There are some great historical buildings, but it was too difficult to walk around in the middle of summer, so I sat at Mojiko Port and admired them. The banana soft ice cream was delicious. Really nice place! The beautiful classical Western architecture and atmosphere allow you to walk around the harbor, relax, and take many photos here. It's easy to get here from Fukuoka; it takes around 1 hour by Sonic train. You can simply take a boat across. Very compact. Not many shops or restaurants. But the atmosphere is unique and good to walk around and spend time at the cafe. I loved everything about this place. It's so peaceful watching the small boats coming and going. Most of the visitors are friendly and the shop people are courteous too. There's many shops to buy souvenirs and eat the local food; I like the ice cream and the curry. A must visit place in Kita Kyushu. A place with many historical buildings. So many local people come here on Friday, finding a place to park is a challenge. A good place to enjoy a peaceful lunch. Mojiko is a really relaxing port town with well-preserved buildings. It has a pleasingly retro feel to it that starts at the train station itself and is good for just wandering about for an hour or two. The highlight is the baked cheese curry which is available in numerous places here. If you're in Kitkyushu, this is a good place for a day trip. A very relaxing port town with European style buildings and many good spots for beautiful photos. We got there quite early and did not have chance to try the snacks around. We took the ferry to Karato market too soon. Recommend to spend at least half a day if you come here on weekdays. A place that made me feel at ease and was so beautiful. Nice retro town. You can akso taoe good pictures from the bridge and shimonoseki. The buikdings are also gorgeous. A very nice place to spend a full day, the food, the historical buildings and the beautiful sunset and light up at night, really recommend to give a full day for the place when planning the visit. This city has some of its retro architecture! It's a very good place for tourism, there are several food options, countless stores to buy souvenirs! I highly recommend. Nice area to walk around. Used for community events. Huge markets while I was there with plenty of second hand and new items to look at. Boat tours of the harbour available. Kokura Castle. It's a great deal if you buy it together with the Kokura Castle Garden ticket. The inside of the hall is decorated with exhibits from Kokura, including a historical timeline, successive feudal lords, and kimonos. It's so new and beautiful that you can't believe you're inside a castle! You can overlook the town of Kokura from the top floor of the castle! It's interesting that there is a shopping mall next to the castle grounds. Visiting Kokura Castle gives you the years history of the place. The inside was full of videos, dioramas, games and things explaining the life of people who live inside and near the castle. The view from this castle was nice but the inside is more for kids, not really adults. The one good thing was their video they played about the history of the Kokura castle. It explains in a simple way for kids to understand what happened to the kokura castle and how it was rebuilt. Overall I am glad I visited though! Kokura Castle is a lovely historic structure with a rich history, but unfortunately, it can't quite compare to the grandeur of Osaka Castle. Don't get me wrong, the castle's architecture and gardens are still worth admiring, and the views from the top are great. However, after experiencing the majesty of Osaka Castle, Kokura Castle felt a bit smaller and less impressive in comparison. That being said, it's still a great spot for history buffs and those interested in exploring Japan's cultural heritage. Just manage your expectations if you've already seen some of Japan's more famous castles! Kokura castle locates on the opposite side of river city which is a big shopping mall. Good location. The castle was renewed and easy to assess. However, there is not much original material of castle is used, it is more like a modern museum showing the model of castle. It is recommended for family trip as there are games for kids. Very calm and peaceful. They charge yen to go inside the castle and you have limited access. You can go up to 5 floors. Inside the castle, there is museum with history about Kokura castle and samurai basically japan history of Kitakyushu. Great places to take a picture. Great place to get a really cool view while still get a good history lesson. My favorite part is the fact that they had so much interactive things you can touch Well maintained Historical castle. Can overlook the city. Very easy to get to from Kokura station on foot. The equipped garden is also worthy to visit and enjoy the luxury high tea if time allowed. Need reservation ahead. There is entry fee involved but can purchase with the entry of the castle together. It is interesting because its shape is different from other castles. However, there is an elevator inside, but there is nothing on the top floor, just enjoy the view. The stairs are wide and you won't have any trouble climbing them. The main purpose of the castle is to view the exhibits. The masonry is in the field. It might be fun just to watch this. Scenic and Educational: - Exterior views are particularly scenic. This place is very memorable to me coz it's the 1st japanese castle i've visited during our first visit in japan. We really enjoyed our visit. The first floor has a lot of interactive exhibitions which are really fun. You can even dress in a digital kimono and get your photo taken. The exhibition of Musashi was the best part, though. It's incredible how japanese people can make every museum so special. A must see destination when in Kitakyushu. This is the only castle in Fukuoka. It is the largest of all castles in Japan ground floor area and the 6th tallest castle in country. The castle is within a sprawling public space consiting of parks, playground, the city hall and City library. I recently visited Kokura Castle and it is the most interesting Japanese Castle I have visited so far. The entrance is decorated with furin which creates a very nice sound when the wind blows through. Right inside the castle, you will see a long corridor displayed with a series of miniature models showing the history of Kokura. Opposite to the model, there is a movie room that plays a mini-movie talking about why this castle was built and what the area has experienced until modern days. This movie is made in very good quality and I do recommend visitors to watch it. Then you will reach an area designed with a lot of interactive displays which are fun and educational. You can experience shooting arrows when riding horses, doing quizzes that are relevant to the castle, trying to be a laborer to hold a heavy rock, etc. There is also an observation deck on the top floor which you will be able to see the nice view around the castle area. The view is great during sunset. Another good thing about the castle is that they open longer than normal tourist attractions until 8 pm during summer which means you can take your time to enjoy the castle. The castle tower disappeared in , but was rebuilt with reinforced concrete in It's a shame that the castle tower no longer exists, but you can definitely feel its features. The tall stone wall that towers over the moat is especially stunning. There's a lot of territory left, so there's a lot to see. I didn't have time so I couldn't stay there, but I would like to try it next time. Nice castle with a view of the city on the fifth floor. We got the garden and castle combo for yen each. It's worth it. The castle isn't anything special. It has a lot of art and crafts with some activities for kids and adults. The castle garden is small but cute. You can walk around the man made pond. It has koi fishes. Are you busy? Then you might skip it. What impressed me the most was the view of Kokura Castle from the entrance to Kokura Garden. Of course, it is free to see the view from this location which is actually pedestrian road. But you have to buy an admission ticket to enter the castle inside. There isn't much to see inside the castle, so I don't think there's a need to go in. If you are busy, you can just take pictures outside on the way to the Riverwalk. Very scenic from the outside. The first couple of floors inside did a good job explaining the history of the castle and its rulers but otherwise was rather bland. Still worth a visit if you are in the area. Good for travelers. There's a coffee shop at the top of the castle. The yen tickets gets you the 3 exhibition and the garden. The Plaza have some stores to visit but not main atraction. The views from top of the castle are good for photos. It has been said that this is the only place in Japan where you can photograph a castle and a torii gate in the same picture. It's worth a visit if you're into castles or just in the area. A grand imposing castle in the heart lands of Kumamoto, it's lovely to walk around the temple grounds and admire the serene scenery whether day or night. It is relatively close to Kokura station and has a souvenir shop nearby where you can purchase unique tokens commemorating your visit. We had no expectations, didn't even plan to visit, but it was after 7pm, we were waking by, and it was open! We had so much fun inside! We spent an hour there closing at 8pm and it flew by. In my personal list of castles, it is now in 3rd place after Himeji - authentic - and Osaka - impressive - castles. Outstanding castle Beautiful river view Surrounding the castle is shady with trees. Convenient transportation. You can sit and chill at coffee shops in the surrounding area to absorb the atmosphere of the river and view of the castle. A short walk from Kokura Station. The attractions and materials are well displayed inside the museum, so you can visit them all without getting bored. I was supposed to be able to see the sea from the castle tower, but NHK Nobiru was in the way. It's really a waste. The castle was rebuilt in the 50s of the original design, so it's relatively 'modern' inside similar to Osaka. Nonetheless, the displays and interactions are informative and fun. It is also inside a nice park, so you should spend some time there too. It was a little too early for the sakura season and didn't went into the castle so there nothing much beside great vibe and beautiful temple aside the castle. Nice place. This is not a big castle like the one in Kumamoto. Yet it is also beautiful and sit at the heart of the city. I suggest to take a look when you may also enjoy the neighborhood there. If you are interested the history, you can buy a ticket and go up to the castle. Mojiko Station. Train station. Built in , updated in , this Neo-Renaissance train station sits on a square with a fountain. It was so nostalgic and historical place in Kyushu. You can trip to past when you there!! I recommend Moji area if you are looking for the place where destination for your vacation. Mojiko station is a small train station that has a lot of history. The fountains for example are relects from and are still working. The buildings around it also look like they were built a long time ago. There is a fountain in front of the station. Across the street is the Moji Port. We took a ferry to go to the Karato Fish Market and visit tbe attractions nearby. We used the same route going back to Hakata. Different feel Japan, retro touch station. Very well kept station. None of the credit card readers actually work so bring yen if you feel bad about not paying. The staff here is chill. The fountains are sometimes turned on in the front. The station is clean and they have some cute plants by the rails. This station is the tip of the island of Kyushu. I was there for a visit to check out the place. It still retains some flavour of early modern Japan when she allowed Westernization. Please visit this place which many tourism offices would recommend. This off the beaten track was refreshing. I like the way the 'Starbucks' store blends well with the station's European-influenced 'Taisho Era' architecture. This station boasts unique architecture set against the backdrop of the sea. You can soak in the chill vibes and enjoy delicious food. This station faces the Kyushu Railway Museum and is a historical station. The station building was completed in The history of the station dates back to There were no bridges or tunnels in the Kanmon Strait when it first opened, and this station served as the gateway to the railways of Kyushu. The station building is an important cultural property and is popular among Japanese railway enthusiasts. Very beautiful train station with Starbucks! Nice architecture. Uniquely quaint train station with plenty of original and rustic decors and structures in the station even the water basin in the washroom! Also it is a very nice place for photography. A few train stations in Japan reflect strong influence of European-style architecture and building, and Mojiko Station is one of the examples. Mojiko Station is the Neo-Renaissance style building and was built in , although the Station was first built earlier in It is designated as Important Cultural Property in Japan. At present time, it is operated by Kyushu JR, and it is an important tourist attraction and entry gate for Korean and mainland China's tourists for Fukuoka tour. Nice station that bring us to many lovely place. Don't miss Karato market. Good location To made a memory with family. Architectural Significance: - Emblematic of Neo-Renaissance style. Historical Relevance: - Gateway to Kyushu dating back to Aesthetic Appeal: - Quaint and rustic decor throughout the station. The station itself is the oldest on the Kagoshima Line and has several tourist attractions worth exploring. Overall, Moji Port Station is a great place to start your journey and learn more about this fascinating area. The terminal station of JR Kagoshima line and has been used as the main station of Moji district. This building was built in , and is designated as a national cultural property. Kyushu Railway History Museum. Rail museum. Entrance ticket is cheap, there is mini train if you want to ride another payment. The diorama is great. Not many people Good service staff Disadvantages Explanations are all in Japanese, tourists can't read the history. Toilet super clean. A small railway museum that you can learnt the history of the railway of Kyushu. There are some old trains displayed that you can get inside to see how the inside looks. You can also take great pictures here too. Highly recommended for kids and photographers. So apparently once you buy a ticket and go in ,and you come out and want to go in again, you have to buy another ticket to go in. Overall it's good but I wish they would tell me that I can't go back inside once I've come out. Adjacent to Mojiko Station there are old train carriages outdoors on display with three of them you can enter inside, as the interior is well preserved. The main building hosts a small carriage and an exhibition room upstairs with railway artifacts, station and destination signs and old photos. Though not as big as the one near Omiya it is great that there is one. Fun outing for the kids esp being able to go inside the driving compartment of some of the older trains and a miniature track where they can drive mini trains around a track. For the real train enthusiast, I think there will be just enough there to see the history of train development in Japan but probably find the specimen a little lacking. Interesting little train museum. Plenty of old engines to look at and a few you can get inside. My son played 3 times and unfortunately the green yufuyin train was not in service that day. The train simulator also good and long driving time. Worth to go and explore some retired Japan trains. Before leaving we bought some train socks for our boy. Obviously can't compare to the ones in Saitama and Kyoto but still a fantastic railway museum and admission is very cheap. There is a covered outdoor rolling stock exhibit and a 2-storey main building containing some model railways that you can play with , art, a gift shop and a library that is open on weekends. The main highlight though is the mini train driving simulator which was good fun and well worth the price. Not very big but the entry fee is very reasonable and you get a discount from multiple tourist passes including the JR All Kyushu railway pass. Brochures are helpful and offered in multiple languages. Aside from the artefacts and allowing you to step inside some of the train carriages, I would also recommend the interactive exhibits mini train ride outdoors and driving simulator inside the exhibition hall especially if you have kids, they cost extra but not much. Finally, the selection of souvenirs in the gift shop is really good. Kyushu Railway Hostory Museum established since It is one of the spot in Mojiko which should not miss especially for trains fans. It has a number of old trains since Besides trains, it also has a collection of signs, uniform, tools, etc. You can spend at least half of a day there. Buy a round trip ticket unless you want to go the Kanmon Tunnel. As a reminder, only accept cash or suica. Compared to the Kyoto Railway Museum, this one is much smaller but full of Kyoushu's unique trains. It has trains, models, history, gift shops and a mini train park for kids to ride on. Great for family trip. Great little railway museum. Has quite the collection of locomotives for its size. A lot of other exhibits and historical items that are insightful for the rail fan. Really easy access from Mojiko station which is another must see place. So cheap to enter as well. Can watch the railway history. And the past of the Mojiko station. Good for family, friends and kids! I enjoyed it as an adult and bought made in Japan t-shirt there! Learned a lot about railway history! Would recommended queueing for train simulator once arrive mins wait , then explore the museum, and come back for the sim. There was also a mini train ride for kids. Also a 10min video show explaining history of railways every hr, though all in Japanese. Spent 2 hrs at the museum! Sufficient aircon for summer weather, good place to hide from blazing sun and heat! No re-enter after exit sign that says clearly. Great experience n knowledge about trains in the past. Is not a big area to walk around but is a good place for kids to know everything about trains.. A big range of trains you can get on and experience. Aswell as a train ride that is yen for 3 people. There is an inside exhibition aswell. My children's absolutely loved getting on all the trains and fiddling with the switches. Very good fun. Not as big as kyoto train museum but if you are into trains, a good pitstop. Enjoyed the train ride that adults can ride. The shop sells train model, slim ones not the bulky ones at mall. Overall I enjoyed myself. I enjoyed my time here, very informative, and you can find different trains that used in the past now showcased here. Kawachi Fujien. Cultural Events. Highly recommended visit to see the world famous Wisteria flowers of Kawachi Fuij-en. The scenery is beautiful and serene. If you can, try visiting early in the day during Spring. But be warned Kawachi Wisteria Garden has grown very popular in recent years and now attracts large numbers of domestic and international visitors during the wisteria season, which often falls into the busy Golden Week. To reduce congestion, advance reservations are required at a convenience store to enter the garden during the peak season in spring. Beautiful flower garden! Flowers are in full bloom and the air smelled wonderful. Highly recommend to come early to avoid the large crowds. Plenty of parking and bathrooms are located at entrance. Beautiful wisteria garden. Unfortunately the best of the blooms were blown off in a storm before Golden Week. It will still be worth a visit in the next few days but the garden is not at it's best. If you can put off your visit to , do so. Hopefully it will be better next spring. Beautiful Garden to see the pretty Wisteria. We went on a weekday so it was a good chance to see the tunnels without many people around. The rates change on the day depending on the flower bloom. Many beautiful views. I visited Kawachi Wisteria Garden today, it was the blooming season and it was a truly breathtaking experience. The garden was filled with stunning shades of purple, pink and white wisteria flowers which made the entire garden look like a fairy tale. The fragrance of the flowers was absolutely mesmerizing and added to the overall ambiance of the garden. However, I was disappointed to see that despite clear instructions stating that no selfie sticks or gimbals were allowed, many visitors were still using them. I followed the rules and refrained from using a selfie stick, but others were not held accountable for breaking the rules. It was frustrating to not be able to take pictures with myself in them while others were able to get away with it. Overall, the beauty of the garden was definitely worth the visit, and it is a must-see for anyone traveling to Japan during the wisteria blooming season. I hope the management can enforce the rules more strictly in the future to ensure a fair and enjoyable experience for all visitor. Before visiting this garden, my husband thought those beautiful photos were fake. Then he got shocked. It was real!!! Hahaha It is a peaceful and beautiful garden. There may be a que at site for entry, even during timed entry. Bathrooms were clean, but only outside the entrance fyi womens. I wish there were more benches, and maybe some signs explaining the different plant varieties, how old the trees were, etc but I enjoyed my visit anyways! Would visit again! The place is beautiful if the wisteria are in full bloom. When I went half of the wisterias were gone. But it was still beautiful. We could still take pictures. Reservations are required. Tickets can be purchased in seven eleven or Lawson. That will be around yen. On the day of visiting the garden , you have to pay an extra amount depending on the bloom rate. I paid extra as some of the wisterias were gone. Normally during full bloom it will be yen extra. The problem is the transportation. Previous years , there was shuttle bus. But in there were no shuttle buses. We had to go by taxi yen one way. Buses were also in limited schedule and buses were just for half way and the rest you have to go by walk. If you have your own vehicle or renting a car , this place would be great. Really nice place with what you expect to see, but getting here could be hard without a car since the closest bus stop is at Kamijuta Station which is a 45 minutes to 1 hour walk. It's definitely doable but I would recommend hiring a taxi to go there as some parts are uphill, especially the first and last 10 minutes. The view is beautiful as there is a dam and reservoir on the way where you can see some great scenery. I would recommend walking back as it will be either downhill or flat- it's a very nice walk! It was not as expected as the pictures online when we went there because the flowers are starting to wither. It's okay because the price is only yen. There was no free shuttle bus. Taxis are available worth yen. Make sure to bring your ticket bought at convenience store. Kokura Station. Transit station. Large, long-standing train station serving Kyushu with a variety of train options. Kokura Station has an impressive hall that is spacious and welcoming. The instructions are clear and easy to follow, so you should have no trouble finding your way around the station. You will also be able to see the monorail line within the station, which is a great way to get around the city. Very gorgeous station! After getting off the Shinkansen, going inside wasn't difficult. When you get near the exit and path to Monorail, it is a very nice view! Tons of stuff to see inside the station. Food and gifts. It is the second largest station in Kyushu with , users daily. In the late s, the Kokura station area was expanded and remodelled. This station save my day, exchange here for hiroshima station. Iconic place in kukora. Everyday, a lot of workers using this station to go to their workplace. In order to use the train, u need to make a card. The card will be used to enter the station by tapping it on the machine. Another option is by using a ticket. U need to show the ticket to the officer, and once u arrive at your destination, u need to give the ticket to the officer. One of the major JR station in north Kyushu. There is a big shopping mall here, in which you can find many restaurants here. You have to pay an excess of 2, Yen to transit from this station. It is very misleading and is a total rip off in my opinion. Very big train station. You can find JR, Shinkansen and Mono rail all in this station. Train station for interchange. I love you this station for: 1. A lot things to see 2. Many shops open 3. Nice place to have transit 4. Convenient for everyone 5. Near to big hotels or supermarkets. Old Moji Mitsui Club. There is an Aeon Mall across the street so watch out for clueless Kitakyushites behind the wheels of their death machines. It is a good place for young children. The special exhibit will keep changing but the permanent exhibition is good. We really liked the dinosaur bones and the animals. It takes quite some time, but it's the perfect place for families and couples to visit. The air conditioner works well inside the museum, so it can be used as a summer resort. If you are going to a hot place with your child during the summer vacation, we recommend that you use this little-known spot! Definitely worth it for its price! As you enter you're met with a big collection of stag beetles. The dinosaur skeletons and mammoth skeletons were amazing. There was an awesome exhibit of nautilus fossils, a good collection of minerals and crystals - I'm a huge fan. A very well curated artefacts on the history of Japan, with lots of information on the different samurai clans. Thoroughly enjoyed our 3 hrs visit. Must have while you are in Kyushu island. Plenty of history of the Japanese nation, and wildlife especially the cat family and dinasaurs. There are permanent exhibitions and limited-time exhibitions, so it's fun to visit once in a while. The permanent exhibits mainly feature dinosaur fossils, stuffed insects and fish, and a reconstruction of the old Kitakyushu townscape, so both adults and children can enjoy it. The museum has a large area talking about how the earth was formed and how creatures evolved until now. For this part, they are doing well like other museums. After this section, then they focus more on both ecology and history of Kitakyushu. Overall, it is a very good museum and you will properly spend hours there. During my last visit, the building was renovating outside but they have provided arrow signs to guide visitors to the entrance. This has been the most mindblowing museum we have ever been to. The amount of information and the interactive exhibitions are truly exceptional! If you are ever in Fukuoka this is just one stop in the bullet train back in the direction of hiroshima. So you can be there in about 20 minutes. The dinosaurs are in the main hall and there are so many and so big that it's almost impossible to fit them in a proper photo. The only thing we regret was not going earlier as we didn't have time to buy anything in the gift shop because it was closing already. There were lots of things that were worth buying. The museum is a sprawling 6, sqm place, the largest nature museum on Western Japan. It has an impressive display of dinosaur skeletons that are conveniently and strategically positioned at the ground level of the museum. I waited in a queue in my car for over 1 hour to enter the car park, only for the queue to eventually come to a complete stop. Many people started abandoning the queue and, eventually, I also had to give up and drive away. There was no signage letting people know of the parking situation, no staff monitoring the line. The backed up traffic caused major tailbacks and issues in all the surrounding roads. It's just simply not workable. The museum needs to work on better parking solutions, or alternatively ensure people are aware of the situation before trying to visit. Not only serves merely information about the past, prehistoric period, it has the live attraction movie-like except it has the robot that similar the real dinosaurs about how dinosaurs live in the past, although the explanation given in japanese i was astonished by how they managed to make the visitors get the insights. Pedestrian drawbridge overlooking the Kanmon Strait, said to bring happiness to lovers who cross it. It's a pretty sexy bridge that's actively ring used. They post the times which the bridge is drawn which I have posted below if you're trying to film it. As Mojiko is a port town, this is one of her main attractions. Couples are told to walk here for good luck. Can't verify because my girl didn't come with me. But the sights here of the ocean are wonderful. It was very interesting to see how the movable bridge works to let the boat pass. But it's also such a beautiful place to see. A visit to 'Mojiko' is recommended! Blue Wing Moji bridge is one of the signature tourist attractions in the area. It is not a huge bridge but it could be one of the easiest bridges for you to see how a bridge raising and lowering. You only have to come here as per schedule and you will be able to see the raising of the bridge. I highly recommend visiting this place if you visit Moji Port. The road is smooth and well-maintained, and there are plenty of pull-off areas where you can stop and take in the view. There's also a pedestrian walkway on the bridge, which is a great option if you want to take your time and really soak in the scenery. Another popular way to experience the Kanmon Bridge is by taking a boat tour that passes underneath it. This is a great way to get a different perspective on the bridge and really appreciate its scale and grandeur. Overall, I would highly recommend a visit to the Kanmon Bridge if you're in the Fukuoka or Yamaguchi area. It's a beautiful and impressive structure that's definitely worth seeing in person. I purchased a combined admission ticket for Kokura Castle for a little over yen, but I don't think there's a need to go there. I like pretty, well-maintained Japanese gardens, but this one isn't well-maintained and there's little to see. The water in the pond was so murky that it didn't look good. I don't think it's a place you'd pay money to go to. Package tickets with Tenshukaku is yen only. The view is great for photo taking. Kokura Castle Garden is a traditional Japanese garden. While the garden is decent, it is a bit small compared to other Japanese gardens. However, it has a small museum explaining the history of Kokura and the famous Kokura-ori which is a kind of traditional textile made by traditional loom. Overall, it is an interesting place and you will be able to spend around 30 minutes here. Please note that they sell combo tickets with discount for you to enter this garden, Kokura Castle and Matsumoto Seicho Memorial Museum. Beautiful garden, full of lovely flowers that bloom all year around. Inside you can relax and at the end of the exhibition there's a beautiful place to enjoy the kokura castle. Very peaceful garden. It's a highly rated spot for moon viewing and they also host tea ceremony. Attached to the garden is a nice exhibit of local crafts and artifacts, showing how the distinct Kyushu style pattern is created with cotton, dyes, and weaving. The castle garden is a little small. We went in winter, so there was not a lot to see. However, the house was very interesting and we enjoyed matcha tea ceremony and talked with some local volunteers. Small and well maintained garden. It comprises of one small pond with plants and flowers. Staff is friendly and approachable, one can had photography with castle in background. Better to say, well preserved garden in the middle of skyscrapers. The castle grounds are now known as Katsuyama Park and are a popular cherry blossom spot that is usually in bloom around early April. The castle keep seems to have four floors from the outside, but actually has five on the inside. The modern interior introduces the local history with displays, an interactive zone and a small theater where visitors can get a hands-on and visual experience of past castle life. The castle's top floor offers panoramic views over the city. Solid garden but small. Beautiful view but slightly disappointment of its size. You will not spend more than 15 minutes in this place.
