The first hour is fantastic, from Charlie's meet-cute with Lola, and the trio of Charlie, Lola, and spunky Lauren finding the clue to save the shoe factory: kinky boots. It's kind of a shame that the movie loses itself and drags at the ~90 minute mark, throwing all sorts of rom-com tropes --like making Charlie a real dick-- to wreck our heroes' plans...as though "Will they save the factory?" and "Will Charlie finally notice Lauren?!" aren't good enough to keep our attention. Buttttt, I'll forgive it...because the ending is fun enough anyway. The real heroes of this movie are the dynamite presence of Lola and Lauren's earnestness -- I fell in love with her character the second she responded to being laid off with "I was just really, really looking forward to having a Chinese tonight..." It's moments like those that shine in this fairy-tale with heart...about a drag queen saving a little community.

Personally, I found this movie absolutely delightful., And even more so since I discovered that it was based on a true story that has since become a bona fide Broadway hit, deservedly so. There is definitely something about British film productions like this one that is, far too often, lacking in Hollywood musical extravaganzas, and the name of that "something" is "charm". But the best part about it was, from the very beginning to, what was to me, a perfect finale, it left me chuckling and feeling good. While I can't say this about many movies these days, this one took me back to the pre-television days when I was just a ten year old kid because, in my opinion, it was just plain uncomplicated fun. Some cirtics have siad it was slow moving in parts, but I didn't find it so. The plot deals with what some people might consider a complicated adult theme involving a "drag queen somwhat reminiscent of Robin Williams in "The Birdcage". Again, I found it delightful and watching it tomight was certainly an everning well spent.

This is a very different movie but I really like it a lot. It's a very real world not glamorized reality of someone who cross dresses. I am sure the story of the main person was supposed to be trans or not if so that's the wrong actor for that. That's sort of the issue I have with these movies. They put big burly men up for trans people so often however if this was just someone that cross dresses okay... Either way it's still a great story, which shows the hardship and pain one goes through. Lots of character development and really the story revolves around someone who doesn't know what he wants in life. I don't want to give away the story but he grows up a lot and discovers who he is and what he really likes to do. Wish life was that easy to figure it all out.

I tried two different discs (returned the first and now returning the second). In both cases, the disc won't play from the title menu. The second one would allow us to start at Chapter 2, but then play only 3 minutes. The quality of the menu screens look cheap and poor quality, as though they're a bootleg. We don't know where this distributor is making or sending from, but this is not a professional quality legit product. Returning the second one, and won't buy again! As for a review of Kinky Boots (which we rented off Amazon Prime), it's a phenomenal movie -- but note that it's the original movie, NOT the musical. The acting is excellent, and Chiwetel Ejiofor is fantastic as Lola. The whole family (youngest 11) enjoyed it tremendously.

Need a happy story...? well,this could be it... I have seen the movie twice... once some years ago, when I was truly stunned by the performance of the star...Chiwetel Ejiofor...stunning performance... that marked this guy as a man to watch in the future... So, the story would not seem promising on first look... a drag queen saves a failing English shoe factory.. I mean, come on, how this possibly be not boring...? Ah hah, give it 10 minutes... and, oh yes, apparently this story is based on a true event, of sorts...;))) Recently, I took the opportunity to see the Kinky Boots musical, a traveling production, here in Connecticut...again, very much enjoyed it, an energetic production and a terrific set, music bt Cindy Lauper (yeah,her.. of 'Girls Just Want To Have Fun' fame........ and then decided to watch the movie one more time... good decisions, all... I have seen Ejiofor in some other productions since, believe me, this guy is the real deal.. from drag queen to sadistic soldier in the galaxy, he is doing it all...most recently in '12 Years a Slave'......give yourself a treat, check him, and Kinky Boots, out... BTW...me, 70 yr. old white guy, veteran, self employed and as straight as they come...;)))

Funny, poignant, mind and heart expanding, very sweet and totally entertaining. Chiwetal Ejiofar was absolutely fantastic. I had no idea that the very manly guy I've seen in "The Martian" and "2012" among others could sing, dance and play a very convincing role as a drag queen entertainer. He really is a major talent and can play any kind of role. Joel Egerton, also delivers a great performance as a guy who can't quite fit in to the role everyone expects of him and finally finds his place when he meets Lola and together along with the great cast of shoe factory workers save his family shoe factory by going out on a limb and creating something out of the main stream. And, it is a true story!

This was a touching movie. While it was based on a true story, the movie added an emotionally fraught friendship between two characters who each face knowing their fathers aren't likely to be proud of them and how heartbreaking that can be. I loved that the storyline dealt with the idea that people can't just go by first impressions of others. We each need to learn to see someone in another light. Even if you're unsure of the content, give this beautiful story a chance to change your perspective of someone different than you.

This heartwarming movie is loosely based upon a true story. When the owner of the Price shoe factory in Northampton, England dies, his son and heir, Charlie, is left to decide what to do wIth the factory. It soon becomes clear that the factory, which is mired in the past making men's wing tip style shoes, is no longer sustainable. As Charlie begins letting some of the employees go, he is torn between letting go of the past and beginning a new future with his fiancee, who would like nothing better than to have Charlie sell the factory. Loyalty to and concern for his father's employees wins out. A chance encounter with Lola, a transvestite, turns into an opportunity to revive the factory by developing a unique niche shoe market. Charlie, with the support and encouragement of Lauren, one of his employees, goes at it full throttle, much to the dismay of his fiancee. The going is initially rocky, but everything eventually sorts itself out as it should. This is a film about trials and triumphs. The cast is uniformly excellent with a bravura performance given by Chiwetel Ejiofor as Lola. I loved this quirky film!
