YOu have the option of spar with practice weapons/wooden weapons spar with real weapons (and ofcourse picking which weapon such as sword axe mace halberd). and ofcourse if you havent already combos and master strike training. The only options you have for paying for training are axe sword defense if i remember correctly.
I would like to increase my Warfare and Sword skill without having to pay anyone for training. So far I have been doing the main quest (left Neuhof) and the miller quest and have encountered very little fighting. Every now and then there is a bandit in the woods but is usualy alone and really easy to take down. Is there a place I can go spar like I did in the begining with capitan Bernard? Or ...

[patch 1.3.1] anyone have this problem?, im a ways into the story, right before the monastery, patch 1.3.1 no options at all for any kind of combat training, just the paid training
Combat Practice? Does anyone know how to practice combat? I mean actual sparring. Every time I go to one of the combat arenas (i.e. in Rattay) it is either empty or the respective master there has a "practice" option where you pay him for a skill boost and the camera fades out. Is there a way to get practical sparring practice against a cpu?

Think you're better off using practice weapons. If you're looking to lvl maybe go with the real weapons. But if you want to practice your skills against a pretty good swordsman and learn the system, do practice weapons

Extremely infuriating, but I'm guessing the best compromise would be what the other guy said, to choose the option of practicing that same combo over and over and waiting for all the dialogue bullshit, and then just wail on him with all of the other combos you wanna practice before finally nailing the one for that particular practice round.

Newb question, I know. I just got to the part where I did the basic training and then whipped Hanz and got his bow. I remember seeing a popup that "Now you can access the combat arena anytime to fight with your master", yet I dont know how to do that. I tried talking to him, but nothing happened. Question: Stated in the subject heading. the problem is the guy is just too difficult an opponent if you're simply trying to learn to do combos. I understand trying to learn with a difficult opponent is better, but you can't even do combos 29/30 times, so you feel like maybe you're doing it right, but he's just always able to get out of the way and interrupt the combo, or maybe you ...
