Yes the title can be a little shocking, maybe a little intriguing, but the fact of the matter is, it is what it is. You’ve probably wondered about whether the shape of your vagina is normal, right? Lots and lots of questions on girls' minds come up about vaginas, and the incessant stereotyping of women’s bodies definitely does not help. We just want to say not all women are created the same, from their hair types to their vagina types. We talked before about the different breast shapes , so we thought it was only necessary to talk about the different shapes of vaginas.
What are the different shapes of a woman’s vagina?
Well, based on studies, there are 9 kinds of vaginas that have been discovered over the years, and that’s what we are going to be talking about.
Remember: Whatever your vagina looks like, it’s totally natural and unique and you should be proud of it and your body; it’s YOUR BODY!
A Woman’s Vagina: 9 Totally Natural Shapes
So, when we are talking about vaginas, we’re basically referring to the shape and size of the inner and outer lips of the vagina, the size of the clitoris, and the color of the vagina. You will find that all forms of the vagina are basically dependent on these factors.
1.Vaginas with an asymmetric inner labia
If the inner labia is a different shape than the other, such as being longer or thicker, it is considered an asymmetric vagina. This is a very common form or type among most women.
With this type of vagina, the outer labia of the vagina are the same size as the inner labia. With symmetrical vaginas, it’s difficult to see the inner blades because they are hidden under the outer blades.
With this type of vagina, the outer labia of the vagina is flat and resting on the pubic bones, and at the same time slightly spaced, allowing the inner labia to appear.
Unlike the pervious type, here, the outer blades are very close together, which makes it appear closed and thus completely conceals the inner blades, The vagina with closed blades is a type that is quite uncommon.
5.Vagina with large/small clitoris
While it’s common to determine the vagina by the shape and size of the blades, sometimes the clitoris is also a factor. In some cases, the size of the clitoris is as large as the size of a thumb and is more sensitive. While in on other cases, the clitoris is as small as the size of a pea. Whatever the size of the clitoris, it doesn’t matter, it’s just another type of vagina.
In this figure, the outer lips take the shape of an inverted horseshoe, or in other words, the shape of semicircular curve. The right blade is the same size and length as the left blade and they meet at the end equally. In most cases, the inner blades are exposed and not covered.
7.Vagina with prominent inner lips
With this type of vagina, the inner lips are longer than the outer lips and protrude from the outside. They can even hang down an inch or more past the outer lips. This type of vagina is easily noticeable and can be evident if you wear pants that are too tight.
8.Vagina with prominent outer lips
The protruding outer lips drop well below the vulva. The skin may be thick and swollen, or thin and slightly loose, and it may sag a little outside your underwear, so make sure to go for underwear with a wide space area from the bottom so your vagina can rest comfortably.
No woman has a full-on pink vagina! There is a common misconception passed down by women that the correct color of the vagina should be pink. However, that’s not true. Doctors have confirmed that a bright pink vagina can be a sign of an infection. Most vagina colors tend to be light brown and even dark. The color of the vagina varies from a woman to another.

I get Brazilian waxes all the time. And every time I drop my drawers and get up on that table, I always wonder how the technician is judging my lady parts. Is my vagina one that she considers normal ? Is it pretty? Does she think it’s weird?
I kind of care about what she thinks because she has seen WAY more vaginas than I ever have. In fact, so few women have been able to compare their vaginas with others because it’s just not something that we do. And unfortunately, I couldn’t take the awkwardness of actually asking my waxing lady to tell me how my vagina measures up.
Luckily for us curious ladies, a former wax specialist by the fake name of Mel spoke with Elite Daily about the five different types of vaginas she found most of her clients to fall within.
Not every vagina will fall within one of these categories, but for the most part, after seeing hundreds of vaginas, Mel has been able to narrow it down.
“This isn’t a mathematical algorithm. This is just to help women understand this weird ‘secret’ [the appearance of our vaginas] we keep from our friends and society at large is not as scandalous or peculiar as we may have thought,” she said.
Before checking out these descriptions, just keep in mind that the word vagina actually refers to the hole. What Mel describes are the shapes involved with both the inner and outer labia. Check this out and see how you measure up.
This is a vagina where the labia minora (inner lips) extend out past the labia majora (outer lips) either a little bit or a whole lot. Apparently, this seems to be the most common vagina and has characteristics that are seen in other types, too.
While this is the least common, it is the way that majority of people assume that vaginas should look . In this case, the labia minora are completely hidden inside the labia majora and both sets of lips rest on the pelvic bone.
These look similar to the Barbie but the lips sit lower on the pelvic bone and are either puffed up or thin and hanging.
This one looks like a flower about to bloom. Here, the labia minora is slightly showing throughout the whole length of the labia majora. It’s different than the curtains because the inner lips are both exposed and contained.
This is when the vagina opening is wider at the top, which exposes the labia minora, but the labia majora touch towards the bottom and stop the labia minora from extending below them. The shape looks like a horseshoe in general.
Seeing a penis is normal but looking at a vagina is kind of taboo. This isn’t great for women’s rights, in general. Mel hopes that the vagina can become normalized so that women don’t have to feel in the dark or ashamed by what they have.
Mel summed it up by saying, "Moral of the story is that every vagina is different , but it shares a sisterhood with all other vaginas, and nobody should feel strange or abnormal. Just because you haven’t met your sister vagina yet doesn’t mean she isn’t out there."

Elite Daily writer Jamie Leelo spoke to a former vag waxer by the name of Mel who broke down all the ins and outs of the thousands of vaginas she saw, and came up with FIVE major vagina archetypes.
Of course, not all vaginas fit into these categories, and, hell, what are categories anyway? As Mel noted, "This isn’t a mathematic algorithm. This is just to help women understand this weird ‘secret’ [the appearance of our vaginas] we keep from our friends and society at large is not as scandalous or peculiar as we may have thought."
But, for simplicity's sake, we're gonna refer to the vulva here as a vagina, mmkay? Also, these all have "Ms." names, but ANYBODY can have a vagina.
The Barbie look features a vag where the labia majora (outer vagina lips) completely contain the labia minora (inner vagina lips).
This vag model is much more common .
• The bony vagina. If a lady is petite or skinny, chances are that she also has a bony vagina. Gynaecologists say this type of vagina is more narrow and bonier than most. “The exciting part about it is that it allows for a tighter fit that ensures a sensational sexual experience. The worrying part is that it can be a little uncomfortable when a sensitive body part is conjoined with a bony one,” says sexologist, Adrian O’Neilly.
• Full lip vagina. Simply put, the woman has plumper lips than the rest. They are so pert that they practically scream for attention. And, they’re kissable too. According to O’Neilly, “men love fat lipped vaginas because they are always very soft to the touch, very inviting and easier to find for penetration.”
• The shaved vagina. What this says about a woman is that she’s so into making sure everything is clean shaven, prim and proper, and the sexiest of the pack. “Guys definitely notice when a woman puts a great deal of work into keeping her vagina perfectly tamed,” O’Neilly assures.
• The expert vagina. Well, the expert vagina shows an experienced lady! She’s got those wide alleys for easy entry—or so male respondents told O’Neilly! But then, the truth is, the vagina expands as a woman becomes aroused. The only downside is that a guy might be worried that he isn’t going to be able to please his woman!
• The accessorized vagina. This woman loves to accessorize, with lots of extra skin in the surrounding area. “The common misconception is that this type of vagina seems like its old, run down, tired or just got off a major diet. Fortunately, men really don’t mind the extra skin, so don’t be afraid to embrace it,” O’Neilly says.
• The 70s vagina. What it means is that this lady’s got a thing for comfort and relaxation and her vagina shows it. Shaving down there really isn’t a priority for her. For the most part, guys don’t normally have an issue with an unshaven vagina, so don’t feel obligated to start a new shaving regimen, O’Neilly says.
• The virginal vagina. What this indicates is that the lady’s body is as tight as it gets from those slender arms to that tight vagina. In fact, the walls may actually be closing in. “If you own one of these, you’re in luck because guys give this one two thumbs up. The snug fit allows for heightened sensations and a major confidence boost. Guys never have to worry about whether or not they are big enough and the close fit definitely makes them think your vagina was made specifically for them,” the sex expert says.
• The peek-a-boo vagina. The lady concerned has that clitoris that is out just enough to give the perfect tease. According to O’Neilly, a perky clitoris makes for the perfect plaything for the male species. Plus, they love the bigger orgasms girls seem to get with these. It makes them feel like they did their job just right.
The bottom line: Vaginas come in all shapes and sizes and there is no such thing as the ‘perfect vagina.’ Rather, a good man will love his woman despite the type of vagina she happens to have. As for the woman, learn to embrace your vagina, regardless of what it looks like.
