Situated near Florence in Lauderdale County, Killen was settled in the early 1800s as a result of the Alabama Canal. Killen offers a suburban-rural mix style of living with shops and boutiques in downtown and exquisite amenities at the members-only Turtle Point Golf and Country Club offering tennis, golf, pool, meeting accommodations and dining. The Killen Park offers a beautiful walking trail as well as an amphitheater, pavilions, tennis courts, soccer and baseball fields. Killen is home to Locke Six boat ramp, formerly known as Locke Six canal on Wilson Lake. Not only is it widely known for great fishing and boating, but it is also rich in history. Killen offers seasonal events such as Founder's Day, Trunk or Treat, Movie in the Park, and the Farmer's Market. The Farmer's Market is open every Tuesday afternoon and Saturday mornings from April through September.

Killin is a small village at the Falls of Dochart, a spectacular series of rapids, at the western end of Loch Tay.
The village makes an excellent base for walks in the surrounding mountains of Breadalbane while Loch Tay is a popular destination for both its salmon fishing and watersports. Killin sits at the edge of the Ben Lawers National Nature Reserve and the Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National
