One of the most influential anime in recent times is Kill la Kill. It's produced some truly memorable scenes, including these ten great moments.
One of the most influential anime in recent times is Kill la Kill — a delicious take on the "magical girl" clichés that thronged the scene in the 90s and early 2000s. The pacing in this show is top-notch; although each episode feels like the finale, the story is continuously propelled forward.
The script has been written with deliberation and tact: while several fans have misapprehensions about it being "fanservice", because the main characters fight in skimpy clothing, the themes are obviously satirical in intent. There are several scenes in Kill la Kill that are worthy of multiple rewatches, and, in several cases, beautiful enough to be a digital wallpaper. Here are ten of them.
Ryuko dons her Senketsu, demanding that Satsuki step down from her high horse and face her in a real fight. Satsuki, although rejecting her several times before, finally puts on her Junketsu. During the first half of the battle, Satsuki has the clear upper hand (due to the offensive powers of her Kamui.)
She knocks Ryuko into a building, upon which the latter loses her resolve, consequently deactivating Senketsu. Mako appears, out of nowhere as usual, and exhorts Ryuko to discard her shame and just "get naked". Here on, their powers are evenly matched, at least until the end when Satsuki's final blow brings her sister to her knees.
Ira Gamagori reveals his past to Ryuko and Mako, telling them exactly why he obeys Satsuki without question. In a flashback, he is seen trying to protect a weak kid at Rinne-Do junior high school — as a bunch of rich bullies were forcing him to jump off the roof just because he had spilled some milk on one of their uniforms.
Gamagori is unable to prevent him from jumping, but the Kiryuin Deluxe Trampoline saves the day. Satsuki explains that "those who are incapable of resolve are unable to wipe away their own tears", resulting in his undying devotion for "Satsuki-sama".
Akihiro Mikusugi, the bizarre schoolteacher, asks Ryuko to meet him at his place after school. There, he explains the Kiryuin plan for world domination through the use of Life Fibers. At this point, he begins to slowly undress in front of her (to her obvious embarrassment.)
After Tsumugu, one of his teammates, tries to kill Ryuko for her association with a Kamui, Mikisugi reveals that their organization is known as Nudist Beach. He adds that they refuse clothing because of the possible contamination with REVOCs, the Kiryuin fashion brand that contains Life Fibers.
The day Ryuko enters Honnoji Academy, she goes to the assembly that Council President, Satsuki Kiryuin, is presiding over. In front of all the students, she reveals the split Scissor blade, demanding that the "Queen Bee" tell her who killed her father.
Satsuki mentions that she may have seen the blade before, prompting Ryuko to run at her point-blank, thinking that she was the one behind the murder. The Boxing Club Captain, Takaharu Fukuroda, parries her attack with the power of his Goku uniform. Ryuko runs away; she knows the value of living to fight another day.
During the strange time-limited competition hosted by Honnoji, Ryuko runs to school without her Kamui (he is being washed at the moment.) The Mankanshokus do their best to get Senketsu to Ryuko, but they are foiled by various instances, but they mostly get distracted on seeing Ryuko's panties.
As a last resort, the family pug, Guts, attempts to transport Senketsu, but it seems that even he is not resilient to a human girl's underwear — blasting blood from his nose, he skids right past Ryuko, delivering the Kamui into the hands of a surprise villain, Maiko Ogure.
In one of the final fights, Harime Nui is sent to check on Hypnotized-Ryuko's progress. Seeing that she hasn't completed the job of sinking the rebels' warship, Nui attempts to do it herself, but Ryuko beats the Scissors out of her hands. Nui reveals that she has more tricks up her sleeve, such as her sewing needle that she uses to assassinate Ryuko.
Unfortunately for her, she has just assassinated a decoy, allowing Ryuko to chop her arms off before she can even react. As serious as this scene is, the way Nui's arms pop right off like a Barbie Doll's is downright hilarious.
Ragyo has finally arrived at Honnoji Academy, where she plans to start the first stage of her plan by absorbing the town's citizens into REVOCs suits. However, Satsuki takes this opportunity to stab her mother in the back with Bakuzan, flinging Ragyo with such force that she is impaled on her own throne.
Satsuki announces that the school, under her leadership, is now in open rebellion against Ragyo, saying that "People do not live for the sake of clothing." Her sheer audacity is undercut, however, when her mother simply regenerates her injuries and strips Junketsu off Satsuki's body.
During their first fight, Ragyo rams her hand straight through Ryuko's chest, pulling out her still-beating heart. To everyone's surprise (except Ragyo's) her heart seems to be composed of Life Fibers.
Her mother then explains that Ryuko is her own long-lost daughter, which the latter denies vehemently. Harime Nui interjects, claiming she always knew that there was something special about Ryuko. Before the villains can do anything, Satsuki sets off a massive explosion, allowing Ryuko to escape.
As Ryuko falls from the sky, having lost her favorite item of clothing, Satsuki runs full tilt to catch her before she lands. She succeeds in getting hold of Ryuko, but the force of gravity pushes Satsuki back across the stadium. Fortunately, everyone jumps in to help. Mako is the first, followed by the Elite Four, then Mako's family, and finally, every other student in the school.
All of them are as naked as the day they were born (having given up their Goku powers to enhance Senketsu in the final space fight.) This lovely scene is evidence that Life Fiber has lost its hold on humanity, giving them the chance to finally protect each other for a change.
This moment is one of the most, if not the most, sensational in the entire series. When Nui asks Hypnotized-Ryuko if she still plans on seeking revenge for her father's death, Ryuko merely grabs her by the chin and pulls her in for an intense kiss.
When she's done, she pushes Nui away with an aggressive expression on her face — explaining the reason behind her action by growling out the words "For luck". Leaving her mother and a blushing Nui behind, she blasts off into the sky, having completely subverted the toxic expectations of onscreen masculinity.

If you love Kill la Kill then be sure to check out these amazing Ryuko cosplay that bring the anime to life in the coolest ways.
Despite airing for just one season between 2013 and 2014, Kill la Kill has become an extremely popular anime with a large fan following, due to its unique premise, fresh animation, and refusal to bow to traditional "magical girl" tropes. The main character, 17-year-old high school student Ryuko, is a fierce and unrelenting fighter, but she has a warm side; she's known for her navy blue uniform, the manifestation of a magical spirit called "Senketsu", that gives her superhuman abilities.
She can definitely be a difficult character for fans to cosplay as, but that's not to say there aren't any cosplayers capable of pulling off her distinct look; there are, and we're going to be looking at a few of them in this article.
Prolific cosplayer starbuxx and photographer Vander the Generalist give us these creative interpretations of Ryuko, which do change a couple of details but still leave the character easy to recognize. For instance, the outfit in both is a kimono-like version of Senketsu that, oddly enough, actually works, thanks to some visionary stylistic choices by the designer. The props deserve props and the hair is spot-on; Ryuko to a T.
An incredibly immersive cosplay with no major problems, this unique take on Ryuko is sure to win over fans of the series.
Reddit user ellsnyx brings us a cosplay where attention to detail is the star. The objective of mirroring Ryuko is realized with astounding quality throughout. The hair is incredibly anime-accurate; there's more going on than just one red streak on dark blue. The props are detailed with a shiny, modern gloss and clean aesthetic. Also of note is the killer rendering of Ryuko's outfit, which is notoriously difficult for cosplayers to pull off and yet seems to cause ellsnyx no inconvenience here.
One thing is for sure; when it comes down to surface-level impressiveness, this cosplay is a tough one to beat.
Instagram user sanet.cosplay 's cosplay of Ryuko works as a cool, clean, and ultimately captivating render that doesn't need flashy props to stand out. The hair is styled with extreme care, the outfit looks fantastic, and no stone is left unturned in perfecting Ryuko's signature tomboyish look.
With an on-point design and a healthy dose of inspiration, not only is this cosplay memorable; it's one for the ages.
Cosplayer ShamanaChu and photographer Allen Stev take Ryuko to the streets in these raw interpretations of the character that use props and scenery efficiently while making sure attention isn't taken away from the centerpiece, which is the cosplay itself. Nothing's out of place here - the costume is a fairly accurate 3D interpretation of Ryuko's signature outfit, and the hair is bold and styled with irreproachable accuracy.
Suffice to say, ShamanaChu does a commendable job of compressing Ryuko's core attributes into one creative cosplay.
This cosplay goes above and beyond on numerous levels, as DeviantArt user Dzikan tries out two different versions of Ryuko without sacrificing either one's quality. Meanwhile, visuals are key; lighting, effects, and gloss help to enhance this enchanting cosplay, and everything looks smooth and detailed.
The hair is perfect in both iterations, and the costumes are cool and colorful with hints of both wildness and decadence. Perhaps most important of all, however, is the way that the viewer is ultimately left with the impression of having briefly been in a colorful alternate reality - a feat owed solely to the cosplayer's talent.
Popular cosplayer KawaiiQueen gracefully handles this clear-cut yet visually expressive portrayal of one of anime's greatest protagonists, with photography by Gil Riego . The costume doesn't hold back and is more than able to stand on its own merits, and the blue-and-red aesthetic that most cosplays tend to pass by is exemplified here to startling effect - for instance, the lustrous, candy-apple red of Seki Tekko, Ryuko's glove, contrasts with the bright royal blue of her well-styled hair.
Solidly structured and doing its job with unparalleled accuracy, this remarkable cosplay gets everything right.
Cosplayer Paulina Guccione and photographer Sandman-AC understand here that lighting is essential to a good cosplay, and the black, blue, and red color tones are accentuated accordingly. The costume is modern and flashy, the hair is bright and beautiful, and - most importantly - the expressive look brings Ryuko's signature vibe to the realm of reality.
Clearly realized and stunningly spirited to unmistakable effect, this cosplay deserves all of the praise heaped upon it and more.
Instagram user maryankitsu and photographer Hugo Fragoso are responsible for this extremely high-quality Ryuko cosplay. The costume is intricate, and little details like the gloves and shoes are not ignored. The hair looks incredible, cartoonish but with a necessary hint of realism. The cosplayer manages to channel Ryuko's general disposition quite well, gazing offscreen with prime determination.
What we're left with is a cleanly-executed cosplay without any real problems; it knows exactly what it wants to accomplish and how to accomplish it.
Cosplayer Bizarre-Deer captures the spirit of the anime perfectly here while also adding a unique, textured touch. The hair looks amazing, with every detail having been taken into account. The styling of Senketsu is crisp, fresh, and oozes glamor.
An expression that showcases Ryuko's ambition and drive tops off this cosplay where everything, from the half of a Scissor Blade Ryuko carries to her carefully constructed pose, seems fine-tuned and perfected by learning and experience; nothing seems accidental, everything is by design, and that's the way it should be.
These unbelievable cosplays are brought to you courtesy of DeviantArt user fenixfatalist and photographer Eva . We've brought up attention to detail plenty of times, and that's only because it's just such an important trait for a cosplay to have - it's also a trait that this particular cosplay knocks out of the park. In particular, Senketsu looks like he could have been lifted from the anime into real life. Both Ryuko's strength and her passion are captured by the photogenic cosplayer, and even the tiniest things are praiseworthy, like the Kill la Kill decal on Ryuko's motorcycle.
It's amazing what some of these cosplayers can do - especially considering many don't receive due recognition for their talents. If you found these cosplayers particularly talented, please take the time to check out their social media pages, linked to their names throughout the article.
