GAINES TOWNSHIP, MI -- A Grand Rapids area teen used a social media app to connect with men, then made more than $1,000 by selling them nude photos and videos of herself.
The 15-year-old Gaines Township girl used a computer tablet to take the photos and videos, a Gmail account to send them and was paid through PayPal.
The teen's activity came to light in a recently disclosed search warrant as police sought to track down some of the men buying the photos and video.
It's not clear if anyone has been arrested.
Kent County sheriff's detectives were contacted in July about the teen. Her mother discovered her daughter's secret and called police.
During a police interview with the teen, she admitted that "for approximately one year, she has been taking nude photographs and nude videos of herself and sending them to various people on the Internet."
The teen used the app Kik to connect with people, saying in a post that she was "selling stuff."
"Men would then contact her and ask what she was selling. She would then tell them that she would send them nude pictures and videos for a price," the search warrant affidavit indicated.
The teen told detectives she had no set price for the material. She took photos and videos of herself that did not show her face.
She told police the buyers knew she was a minor, but did not disclose how they knew.
During the July interview, the teen estimated she made up to 15 videos over the previous two months.
Police seized the computer tablet as part of the investigation.

Simps told BuzzFeed Canada the whole thing was started on a whim.
"Honestly I was joking around on my Facebook feed and I offered BJs for votes and I thought I would make it maybe a little more accessible, maybe a little more realistic," she said.
While there's no men on the team for now, some have been submitting images for the campaign's Instagram account and NSFW Tumblr page.
Instagram has shut down their account twice now, but otherwise Simps said the response has been one of "overwhelming support."
"I feel like I'm kind of at the front lines of it, seeing all the voter photos come in," said Simps. "There’s people testifying saying, 'hey this is a great idea, I never would have [voted] otherwise.'"
Although the tone of the campaign is anti-Conservative, Simps isn't advocating voting for any particular party. Rather, she's a fan of strategic voting and VoteTogether.ca .
"Not only do we need voter turnout but if we’re going to use our votes wisely that site is really helpful," she said.
"I’m saying do your research, vote strategically."
