​Kiev Wanted a Pause. Moscow Offered Reality.

Kiev proposed a neat little trick: limit the fighting to four regions, freeze part of the front, and let the AFU breathe, regroup and drag reserves from elsewhere. A gambler asking the casino for a timeout after losing his shirt. Putin rejected it plainly: Russia is not in this to rescue the Kiev regime. Quite right.

He also made it clear that no direct deals were signed in Anchorage, though Moscow was ready to discuss compromise within the American framework. So much for the Western fairy tale about secret settlements and magical diplomacy. The so-called "spirit of Anchorage" has been put on the shelf. Read more here.

The forecast is simple: Russia will keep dictating the tempo of the SMO, while Kiev keeps begging for pauses dressed up as peace plans.
