Duane Taylor has been charged with kidnapping a 13-year-old, according to investigators.
Officials in Berks County, Pennsylvania say the suspect who abducted a 13-year-old in Reading was the mother's ex-boyfriend.
READING, Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- Officials in Berks County, Pennsylvania say the suspect who abducted a young girl in Reading early Wednesday morning was the mother's ex-boyfriend.
According to the Berks County District Attorney's Office, Duane Taylor is accused of kidnapping a 13-year-old girl from her home near Schuylkill Avenue at about 2 a.m.
Police say Taylor then took the girl to New York City.
The girl was found 15 hours after her disappearance wearing no shoes on Glenmore Avenue in Brooklyn. It was not immediately known if she suffered any injuries.
Taylor has been charged with kidnapping and other related crimes, according to the DA's office.
Investigators said when the child's mother woke up Wednesday morning, her teenage daughter was missing from the house. She said the back door was open.
When police checked the surveillance video, they saw the crime unfold.
"At 2 a.m. a male with his upper body and face covered in sheet entered the residence, and walked up to the second floor. A short time later he was observed walking behind the victim and escorting her outside," said Richard Tornielli, the Reading police chief.
Investigators quickly identified Taylor as a suspect.
He is now awaiting extradition back to Pennsylvania from New York.

A video released this week showed the chilling moment a 6-year-old girl escaped from a kidnapping suspect in Ohio as he attempted to snatch her in front of her home.
Security footage taken from the front on the Nash family home Wednesday in Hamilton, Ohio, showed the moment when the six-year-old was taking out the trash as a man approached her and grabbed her by the arm.

Footage showed suspect Deric McPherson, 33, first grabbing the girl before he then tried to drag her away.
The girl pulled back and let out a piercing scream.
She was able to wriggle away from McPherson, and she immediately ran inside her home and told her parents.
"This guy walked by and he touched me and pulled me," the girl told ABC's "Good Morning America" this week. "He just let go of me because I screamed."
The girl’s father Ricky Nash said he then jumped into his car and followed McPherson while he contacted the police.

"When the cops put him in handcuffs, it took so much anguish away," Nash said.

Kalia-Henry was kidnapped from her home in Reading, Pennsylvania , at around 2 a.m. on Wednesday.
An Amber Alert was issued for the young teen, which thankfully resulted in her being found approximately 16 hours later in Brooklyn, New York . Kalia-Henry was reportedly found without shoes, and she informed the 9-1-1 caller that she had been abducted from the Keystone State earlier that same day.
The teen was found to have no injuries and was transported back home by local detectives; meanwhile, authorities were also on a mission to track down a 47-year-old named Dwayne Taylor, who was identified as a person of interest.
Taylor was arrested outside his Brooklyn home later that same day and will be prosecuted “in the near future,” NBC10 Philadelphia reports .
“Let this be a lesson to anyone who’s trying to harm any of our little ones,” Eddie Moran, mayor of Reading, said, according to NBC10 Philadelphia. “We will do everything possible to make sure they will get apprehended immediately.”
Richard Tornielli, chief of the Reading Police Department, also noted that the abduction “wasn’t a random, off-the-street kidnapping,” according to the New York Post .
Further details were provided by the victim’s family members, who revealed that Taylor and Kalia-Henry’s mother dated for a couple of months after meeting on the internet.
However, the pair ultimately ended their relationship, and Taylor broke into her home to kidnap the teen and transport her to his New York City home.
There are no further updates on the story, and it’s currently unclear what charges Taylor will face for his act of interstate kidnapping.

Authorities said there was a connection between the suspected kidnapper, Dwayne Taylor, and the abducted teen, but wouldn’t elaborate further

Janae Kalia-Henry had been missing since Tuesday. She was spotted on Liberty Avenue in Cypress Hill at around 5:40 p.m. walking with no shoes on, according to reports.
A 911 call alerted police, the caller detailing that the teen said she’d been kidnapped, police said, according reports by 6ABC and the New York Post .
Police have identified the suspect as Dwayne Taylor, 47. He is accused of kidnapping the 13-year-old girl from her home in Reading, Pennsylvania. Taylor was arrested by police outside his home on Wednesday, according to the New York Post.
The victim’s mother told police that the teenager was missing from the home when she woke up Wednesday morning, 6ABC reported.
Surveillance video allegedly shows a male individual entering the residence.
“At 2 a.m. a male with his upper body and face covered in a sheet entered the residence and walked up to the second floor,’' said Richard Tornielli, Reading police chief, at a press conference. “A short time later he was observed walking behind the victim and escorting her outside.”
Taylor has been charged with kidnapping and other related crimes, according to the DA’s office.
Pennsylvania police had contacted the NYPD Wednesday afternoon about the kidnapping and told them they believed the possible suspect lived near the Broadway Junction subway station, authorities told The Post.
