Entry-level suites are perfectly sizeable for couples or parents with young children, while Royal Family Suites have two bedrooms and a living space leading onto terraces large enough to host a milestone birthday. The rest are Maxx Laguna Suites of varying sizes, from one-bedroom to three-bedroom duplexes the size of a London townhouse. Our two-bedroom duplex had a twin en-suite bedroom to the right of the entrance hall and a colossal master bedroom upstairs with a hot tub large enough for two on the private balcony. Evening dashes around the upstairs bedroom are done in a figure of eight around the sponge-soft bed, through a walk-in wardrobe with enough storage space for guests to take permanent residence, then to the shower and toilet area, netted windows looking down onto roaming mountain goats and guests none-the-wiser. As with any resort that claims to be as indulgent as Maxx Royal, the finishing touches make all the difference. A bottle of sparkling wine, a fresh fruit platter and a flamboyant bouquet of flowers greet us on entry, alongside a selection of local treats and a room fragrance menu. Looking to blow the budget? Outside the restaurants, snacks await at every turn. The Maxx Wellbeing Spa is a labyrinth of sweet-smelling spaces divided by their purpose. This corner of Kemer is extremely popular with Russian-speaking tourists — so much so that shop signs in Kemer are often in Turkish, then Russian, and English last. Members of our assigned concierge team tracked us down several times to check everything was running smoothly and reassured us that someone was available at any time of night or day. You can hear excited shrieks between the main pool and Long Beach. Lifts in the lobby and suite complex and ramps into each of the restaurants make getting around a breeze. However, the split-level design of almost all the suites and duplexes means the only rooms designed for wheelchair users are three of the one-bedroom Laguna Suites. Only capraphobics, those who fear goats, would struggle to enjoy a stay here. Cute mountain goats have free reign here — it was originally their domain, after all — but their nervous disposition means they often watch guests from a distance.
