A versatile singer and actress, Katharine McPhee brought her first success as a runner-up in American Idol’s fifth season to a long career. In the 2000s and 2010s, she not only balanced roles in television series like Smash and Scorpion with her music, but she also demonstrated her breadth as a singer. Alongside frequent collaborations with idol writers such as Randy Jackson, Andrea Bocelli and David Foster, McPhee’s gentle style felt at home on pop albums like his self-titled debut in 2007 and Hysteria in 2015, as well as on more traditional dishes like I Fall in 2017 Love Too Light.
McPhee was originally from Sherman Oaks, California, and she began singing at the age of two. Her mother, Patricia McPhee, is an established singer herself, performing and recording as Peisha McPhee. She helped Katharine develop as a singer and later served with
McPhee’s older sister Adriana as a vocal coach on American Idol. Although McPhee sang and performed throughout her childhood and school years, she took singing seriously in college and attended the Boston Conservatory as a major in musical theater. After three semesters, however, she went to Los Angeles to audition for film and television jobs.
McPhee played roles in Crazy, a musical about Hank Garland, and an MTV series, You Are Here, which didn’t make it to the air. She also appeared in the productions of Annie Get Your Gun and The Ghost and Mrs. Muir before auditioning for American Idol in 2005.
After McPhee reached the last 12 years, her appearances on songs like “Someone to Watch Over Me”, “Come Rain or Come Shine” and “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree” made her one of the judges on American Idol. and the favorite of the spectators. In May 2006, she became the runner-up of the fifth season, Taylor Hicks.
After the end of the American Idol season, McPhee was hired by entertainment artist Simon Fuller from the 19 Recordings Limited label and released her first single, Somewhere Over the Rainbow / My Destiny; It reached number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became the second best single of 2006.
A few months later, she joined the remaining finalists and hicks of American Idols LIVE! Tour and also tour with Andrea Bocelli, who appeared as a guest judge on American Idol. She also worked on a version of Can’t Help Falling in Love, which appeared on Bocelli’s 2006 album Under the Desert Sky.

Katharine McPhee got a little saucy on the water in a new video posted to her Instagram account this week. The stunning singer and actress showed off her fun side while on a pedal boat during a recent vacation with her new husband, David Foster , as she flashed her fit and toned body in a red bikini and showed off a hilarious hand gesture.
In the clip shared with her 678,000 followers on November 3, the American Idol Season 5 runner-up could be seen pedaling away on the board as she and David headed out onto the ocean together. The newlyweds, who married in June, both made their way towards a number of luxury yachts that could be seen in the distance, one of which was presumably theirs.
Katharine stunned fans in her fun bikini look, which was made up of a pair of high-waisted red bottoms and a matching one-shoulder top that perfectly showcased her flat, toned tummy and her long, lean legs.
The star had her long brunette hair tied up and away from her face in a ponytail and also appeared to keep the accessories to a minimum.
Taking things one step further during her sunny excursion, the "Over It" singer even hilariously patted herself on the booty a few times as she and David rode away together.

In the caption, Katharine joked to fans that she was "taking bets" on whether it would be herself or her husband who fell into the water first.
Many fans left comments on the new vacation post, where they shared praise for Katharine.
"Beautiful," one person said of the star, while another Instagram user commented, "You guys are the cutest."

The star didn't reveal exactly where she and her husband have been soaking up the sun, but did tag their location as somewhere in Mexico .
Before hopping on the board, Katharine gave fans a better look at her colorful red bikini look in another Instagram upload.

The former Smash actress returned to the social media site to share another look at her swimwear on November 4, this time posting two photos of herself posing in a blue one-shoulder swimsuit in front of a helicopter before leaving Mexico.

One hot mama! After turning 38 in March 2022, Katharine McPhee still looks as gorgeous as ever. The American Idol alum, who welcomed her first child in February 2021, has shared many bikini photos that will make your jaw drop!
When it comes to her fantastic figure, Katharine has her commitment to workouts to thank. Her personal trainer, Oscar Smith , previously told Life & Style that Katharine is a “competitive athlete” who does “not quit” during her intense workouts.
Her exercise regimen includes workouts targeted at different parts of the body. “For upper body, we would focus on a specific body part, then start off what I call ‘the Triangle,’” Oscar explained.
Additionally, Oscar said Katharine’s last set of upper body workouts, which he refers to as “max reps,” are quite intense. “Some days with no weights would be 15 reps of assisted pull-ups, chin-ups, reverse grip pull-ups, close grip pull-ups, wide grip pull-ups, 50 dips, then 50 decline push-ups, 50 incline push-ups, 50 regular push-ups,” he said, noting that she either does this for three sets or until she gives up. Katharine’s cardio exercises, Oscar added, include jump rope, sit-ups, box jumps, sprints and running up and down the stairs.
While it may seem like the songstress is a workout fanatic, her trainer said she’s actually only in the gym a couple of times per week. “We would meet at least two times per week depending on her schedule, and each session would be an hour or a bit more depending on her,” Oscar said.
Outside of her workouts, Katharine spends time with her husband, Canadian composer David Foster , whom she met during season 5 of American Idol when she was a contestant back in 2006. The pair have been married since June 2019. They welcomed their son , Rennie, on February 24, 2021, and have been navigating parenthood together since.
“I’m a little bit tired here and there, but I find times to nap and he’s such a good little baby,” Katharine shared during an April 2021 appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show. “I’m so in love. … It’s my greatest job I’ll ever have.”
