In 2020, millions of YouTube users watched a video that claimed to show “then and now” photographs of the cast of the 1997 film “Titanic,” including Academy Award-winning English actor Kate Winslet who played Rose Dewitt Bukater.
The video was published on May 21, 2020, by BIG STAR-X — a channel that regularly churns out celebrity-themed content . Within six months, the video had garnered nearly 3 million views.
The first photograph of Winslet showed her on the set of the film, aged in her early 20s. The second photograph, which purported to show her at the age of 44, indicated she had rather large hips, and showed her standing against a background featuring the word “BIGHIPS”:
The size and shape of Winslet’s hips really ought not to be of concern to anyone — other than perhaps Winslet herself — but for what it’s worth, the picture was a fake.
The original photograph was taken on Jan. 2, 2016, and showed Winslet attending the Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala in California. The actual word displayed in the background was “BIGHORN” — a reference to Bighorn Golf Club in Palm Desert, California, which was the presenting sponsor of that year’s awards:

Bum role: Kate Winslet stars in her most controversial role yet in The Reader
She will probably say she did it for her art. But, by happy coincidence, it helps to silence her critics, too.
Kate Winslet has stripped off and bared (almost) all in a passionate scene for her new movie, The Reader, a role which has seen her receive her fifth nomination for a Golden Globe.
The stills shown here prove that her figure is, indeed, as slim as it appeared in a recent magazine shoot.
The actress, 33, has been at the centre of several airbrushing controversies over the years.
The latest involved the Vanity Fair article, in which semi-nude pictures appeared to have been heavily altered.
The magazine confessed there had been a 'minimal amount of retouching'.
In 2003, GQ magazine admitted altering its cover photograph of the actress to make her appear thinner. Miss Winslet, who has always championed fuller-figured women, claimed she did not give consent for the digital effects.
'I don't want people to think I was a hypocrite and had suddenly gone and lost 30lb, which is something I would never do,' she said.
In 2005, a poster image of her to advertise the film Romance And Cigarettes was tampered with.
In The Reader, which is to be released next month, Miss Winslet plays a Nazi war criminal, Hanna Schmitz, who has an affair with a 15-year-old boy, played by David Kross.
An insider revealed: 'It is an extremely controversial role. It's a pretty bleak movie.

"There is quite a bit of sex in the film. It's realistic. Kate had no problems going nude.
'She's done nudity before and it doesn't concern her.'
After their sex sessions, Hanna insists the boy, Michael, reads out German literature to her.
Hanna then mysteriously disappears, and the action jumps forward eight years, where Michael is attending law school and observing a war crimes trial.
A group of middle-aged women who had served as guards at a satellite of Auschwitz near Cracow are being tried, and he's left devastated when he sees Hanna is one of them.
During the trial, it is revealed Hanna took the weak and sickly women and had them read to her before they were sent to the gas chambers.
The insider added: 'He is determined to see some good in Hanna despite her past.'
A spokesman for The Weinstein Company, which produced the film, said none of the scenes featuring Miss Winslet had been digitally enhanced.
'Anyone who has seen her at any of her recent premieres will have seen what great shape she's in,' the spokesman said.

Kate is on track for Oscar glory, having received two nominations for the 2009 Golden Globes.
The first is a best actress nod for her role in Revolutionary Road - in which she and Leonardo DiCaprio team up for the first time since Titanic - and, the second for best supporting actress in The Reader.
But Kate is all too aware that she has been nominated for a Globe five times before and never won.
She said earlier this month: 'Someone said to me the other day, "How do you feel about going down in history as possibly the most-nominated loser?"
And I said, "I'd feel very bad about that. Extremely bad about that."'

The 'Revolutionary Road' actress paid tribute to the legendary fashion photographer's ability to present women in the nude for shoots, and his ability to make them feel at ease with their bodies.
Presenting the photographer with a Lifetime Achievement award at the El Museo del Barrio gala in New York last week, Kate said: "You know that his biggest strength without fail is making women look beautiful. When Mario turns to you and says, 'It's beautiful, but I think it would work better naked, no?' How can one refuse?
"No matter what insecurities about oneself a subject may have, Mario makes them go away like a magician.
"One moment you are in The Hair and makeup chair fully clothed and wishing you had smoother skin, longer legs and smaller feet and then Mario comes in and in that charming way he takes you by the? hand and says, 'Don't worry it's going to be amazing.'"
The photographer - who, in addition to his celebrity work, was behind the lens to take the official engagement photos of Britain's Prince William and Kate Middleton - said he has built up a certain level of trust in his industry which he believes makes it easier for him to convince people to pose au naturel.
According to People.com, he said: "I said to [Kate], I want you to pose nude for this exhibition. And she was like, 'Oh, OK, Mario.
"She said yes right away. Most of them, I think, trust me. I would never let them down."
