Former Georgia Gov. candidate Dr. Kandiss Taylor shared a video on Twitter explaining that her house was "swatted." Swatted is a term used when someone makes a hoax call to 911, falsely reporting a violent crime to draw a response from law enforcement.
APPLING COUNTY, Ga. - Former Georgia Republican gubernatorial candidate Kandiss Taylor says her family were victims of a swatting call overnight.
Swatting is the act of making a hoax call to 911 to try and draw a response from law enforcement, usually a SWAT team. Technology makes it appear that the emergency call is coming from the victim’s phone. Sometimes swatting is done for revenge, sometimes it's a prank, and it can be deadly.
In a video posted to Twitter shortly after 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, Taylor called the ordeal "traumatizing." Law enforcement officers responded to her residence in Baxley, Georgia overnight after someone called police, falsely claiming that someone had been murdered at Taylor's residence.
"My children were woken up from their bed", said Taylor. "Trauma doesn't even begin to explain what happened at my house. But in my sheriff's defense they thought they were protecting me. They got a call, a female voice to text, saying they had shot their husband five times and were going to shoot themselves...I don't care what political party you are, this is evil. This is not OK. And I will find out who swatted my house. And I will do everything in my power to bring them to justice."
Appling County Sheriff's deputies, joined by state and city law enforcement officers, rushed to Taylor's residence after the sheriff's office received a 911 call at around 12:30 Tuesday morning in which the caller said they had shot somebody at their home. The caller gave Taylor's address.
"Was a voice activated call from a number we didn't recognize initially, it said I can't speak so I have to text you my message," Sheriff Melton said. "The deputies, they were just responding to the call itself to ensure the safety of a family and a household. We didn't know who lived here at that time."
The former candidate, who ran against Gov. Brian Kemp and former Sen. David Perdue, lives in Baxley, Georgia with her husband and children ages 14 to 17.
"They came with all their weapons - rifles pointed at my house ready to shoot if they needed to kill me if I opened the door," Taylor said.
She says her teenage son was the one who told her about the police presence.
"I don't care what political party you are - this is evil. This is not OK. And I will find out who swatted my house. And I will do everything in my power to bring them to justice," she said.
Despite losing the Republican primary race for Georgia Governor, Taylor has still remained in the spotlight. Just last week, an explosion at the Georgia Guidestones in Elbert County brought a renewed look at Taylor's campaign, and a campaign promise which included "ridding" the state of the mysterious granite monument she called "satanic."
Former Georgia Republican candidate Kandiss Taylor says she and her family were victims of a swatting call that led to police pointing rifles at her home.
Taylor responded to the "swatting" hoax in a written statement saying:
"Last night, I, like dozens of other conservative leaders, was SWATTED by law enforcement after they received a false report from the ‘TextNow’ App.
"‘TextNow’ is being weaponized by extremists to target and harass American Christians and their families. Since TextNow’s Owner, Derek Ting, and the ‘TextNow’ App refuses to cooperate with law enforcement on this matter, I am calling for an investigation into Derek Ting and ‘TextNow’. I am also calling for a corporate shut down of the app company until they can identify and prosecute the extremist terrorists that they are currently harboring.
"Christian Americans who have also been recently targeted using the TextNow App:
"Stew Peters, Nicholas J. Fuentes, Ethan Ralph, Tim Pool, Bryson Gray, Dalton Clodfelter, just to name a handful.
"The method of swatting your ideological opponent is nothing new. Globally, evil and insane people will always try to intimidate our families and our mission. We will not be swayed or fearful, but instead, we will focus on God’s Word, which clearly states:
"'No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, And their righteousness is from Me,' Says the LORD.' -Isaiah 54:17
"Christians across the World will face persecution, but that is only because baby killers, communists, sodomites, and cowards, that are in league with satan, hate the real living God that dwells in us:
"If the world hates you, remember that it hated me first.- John 15:18
"We will not waiver or be afraid. Instead, I am calling for an investigation into Text Now, who is aiding and abetting Demonic Left Wing Extremists who are committing acts of terrorism against Christian Americans."
A TextNow spokesman resonded to Taylor's accusations in a written statement saying,
"Our mission is to provide everyone with an affordable way to communicate, and the safety and privacy of our users is our number one priority. We do not condone harassment or violence of any kind and take reports of abuse on our platform seriously. We actively work to identify and disable accounts violating our terms of service or being used for illegal activity.
"When requested, we work closely with law enforcement through the legal process and comply with all valid legal requests. Law enforcement agencies requesting information can contact us by email at lawenforcement@textnow.com ."
Sheriff Melton said he will ask the GBI to assist in the investigation.

Someone set off an explosive device at the site of the controversial northeast Georgia monument. The site has been subject to vandalism for years, so the association installed cameras.
ELBERT COUNTY, Ga. - Former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Kandiss Taylor reacted to what law enforcement are calling an explosion at the Georgia Guidestones, which Taylor promised to "rid" the state of during her campaign.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said an explosion damaged a controversial Georgia landmark on Wednesday. The GBI said Wednesday unknown people were responsible for the damage. As of Wednesday afternoon, investigators had not connected Taylor to the criminal investigation of the monument's destruction.
Taylor tweeted after news of the alleged explosion broke, calling the Guidestones "Satanic."
Taylor promised to demolish the stones when running for governor, proposing a potential executive order . She linked them to "demonic" worship and human sacrifice in a video.
Taylor's stance on the Georgia Guidestones caught the eye of "Last Week Tonight" host John Oliver , who ranted about Taylor's promise to remove the stones.
The Georgia Guidestones, a granite attraction in Elbert County, are located off of Guidestone Road just east of Ga. Highway 77.
Taylor released a video on Wednesday evening to clarify her position about the Georgia Guidestones.
"If anyone says that I do not believe in law and order and that I would support vandalism, that I would support going outside of our legal system, to demolish something, to vandalize something, they are a liar," Taylor said in the video . "I would never support that. In fact, I think anyone who goes on private or public property to destroy something illegally should be arrested."
Taylor said she believed her words were being twisted and reiterated she only wanted to have the mysterious monument removed through legal means once she took office. She again pointed out it was one of the executive orders she planned to issue if she took office.
"I believe vandalism is illegal and sometimes, people like to call vandalism instead of actually giving God credit because they don’t know how to explain what happens when God moves," Taylor said. "So, until I see a video that shows me anything than what looked like lightning or the hand of God moving on a situation, I’m going to believe it was God."
Taylors said if it was vandalism that there are cameras everywhere and those individuals should be brought to justice.
Early Wednesday afternoon, the GBI released videos showing the explosion that damaged the now-demolished monument. Investigators also released a video showing a silver sedan with a sunroof leaving the scene
"I believe in law and order in this country," she said.
Taylor is a GOP activist and educator.
Taylor was outspoken against the established Republican candidates David Perdue and incumbent Gov. Brian Kemp . Taylor called for an audit of the 2020 election.
She said she supports gun rights and is pro-life. On her campaign site, Taylor says some of the topics she's passionate about include education and mental health.
The origin of the monument is ambiguous. They were allegedly commissioned by a person under the name R.C. Christian, established in 1980 and have become a roadside attraction for travelers. It's sometimes referred to as "America's Stonehenge" for its unknown origins and size.
The monument is 19 feet high and each stone block weighs about 42,000 pounds. It serves as a calendar and is inscribed with a 10-part message in eight different languages. They're a celestial calendar.
The messages are "guidelines" to humanity, that people have suggested are a "cult message."
"They were meant for a future population after a cataclysmic event," Kubas said.
Elberton colloquially known as "the Granite Capital of the World." The stones were crafted from locally-mined granite and built by an Elberton-area company.
The English portion of the inscription reads:
"Maintain humanity under 500,000,000 in perpetual balance with nature.
Guide reproduction wisely — improving fitness and diversity.
Unite humanity with a living new language.
Rule passion — faith — tradition — and all things with tempered reason.
Protect people and nations with fair laws and just courts.
Let all nations rule internally resolving external disputes in a world court.
Avoid petty laws and useless officials.
Balance personal rights with social duties.
Prize truth — beauty — love — seeking harmony with the infinite.
Be not a cancer on the Earth — Leave room for nature — Leave room for nature."
SKYFOX flew over the scene and saw one of the pillars reduced to rubble. The top block also appeared to be damaged in the corner that was supported by the demolished block. It's not clear which languages were on the destroyed block.
The guidestones are the centerpiece of online conspiracies.
Former gubernatorial candidate Kandiss Taylor proposed demolishing the Georgia Guidestones as part of her platform, calling them "Satanic."
Over the years the Guidestones have been subjected to graffiti and vandalism.
"But we've never had this level of damage ever done to the Guidestones," Kubas said.

John Oliver ’s “Last Week Tonight” was off for the holiday weekend, but he turned up on YouTube in a web-exclusive clip in which he found himself agreeing with one of the Republican Party ’s most bonkers candidates on an unexpected issue.
That candidate was Kandiss Taylor , who last week lost the GOP primary for governor in Georgia, where she ran on a platform of “ Jesus, Guns, Babies ” as well as a bizarre vow that “the furry days are over when I’m governor.”
“Honestly, it’s an all-time thing to say,” Oliver observed, then encouraged his viewers to try it out for themselves:
“Walk into any room and announce, ‘The furry days are over when I’m governor.’ Do it right now and see if you don’t feel an electric rush of power. Don’t explain yourself! Why should you? After all, you’re the governor ― and furry days are over!”
Furries are a community of fans who enjoy anthropomorphized animals, including dressing up in costumes as well as art, such as this image Oliver shared of an otter version of himself:
You asked, and we delivered! To be clear, you did not ask for this image of John Ottiver, but nevertheless, that is what we are delivering to you. Behold him in all his chiseled, harmless glory! pic.twitter.com/idWmAKTS26
Then the segment took an even stranger turn when Oliver shared the final plank in Taylor’s platform: an executive order to stand up to the “Satanic cabal” and demolish a monument known as the Georgia Guidestones.
“That was the closing argument of her campaign,” Oliver said. “Raising the obvious question: Hey, Kandiss Taylor, what the fuck are you talking about?”
Turns out more than she may have realized. Oliver did a deep dive into the Georgia Guidestones and discovered that while Taylor was wrong about furries, she might be correct in wanting those stones gone, even if it was for the wrong reason.
“Here is where this piece gets a little weird,” he promised as he explained an unsettling issue about the Georgia Guidestones:
