Dedicated to the published work of Harrison Marks & other prominent UK & US photographers, along with popular glamour models such as June Palmer, Dawn Grayson and others of the 1950's, 60's and early 70's. Warning! This site is not intending to be pornographic, but more an archive and information resource of vintage glamour magazines and images from the past. Another shot of Doris Hurst from the same set as these shots . I love Doris and her fabulous 1950’s figure and big round firm boobs. This crisp clear copy comes from Girlymag and needed very little in the way of restoring/editing to show her off in the best light. Shame the hands are strategically placed to protect her decency, but what we can see is worth it! I think I have a further two shots from this set to share in the near future, which isn’t enough!
Someone asked for another shot of Doris Hurst, so I aim to please with another shot of her from the same set as this shot . I had a few comments about Doris looking similar to other stars from the 1960’s including June Thorburn and Liz Fraser and I agree there are some similarities. I don’t think either of the other two revealed as much as Doris, although Liz was portrayed a busty blonde, that always seemed to end up stripped off down to her underwear in ‘Carry On’ films!

The stunning elegance of 1950’s model Doris Hurst and I’ve come across two copies of this same print from two different sources, so again obviously printed multiple times back then for distribution. This crisp clear copy comes from Girlymag and needed very little in the way of restoring/editing doing to it, but shows off Doris’s fine assets at their very best!
I don’t know why but Doris seems to come across a lot older than she probably was, something to do with the hair style back then? I bet she wasn’t much older than her 20’s though at a guess, but I’ve never a good judge at ages!

George Harrison Marks launched Kamera in 1957 and was published with a cover price of 2/6 ( A round £2.75 at today’s prices). The original print run of 15,000 copies sold out within two days of the launch, so an immediate reprint had to be ordered. Again that sold out in days and, in all, over 150,000 copies of issue No.1 were sold in the first five weeks. The photographs reproduced in Kamera were retouched, where necessary, to disguise any sign of the model’s pubic hair or genitals, in order to try and avoid the danger of falling foul of the British obscenity law, which was pretty ambiguous in those days. This was the case throughout the 12 years that the publication of Kamera spanned. The reader could have been forgiven for thinking that all the models had shaved off their pubic hair. In fact probably less than half of them had.
Some of the models who appeared in Kamera – June Palmer, Paula Page, Lorraine Burnett, Vicky Kennedy, Marie Devereaux, Pat Rose and Rosa Dolmai – like Pamela Green, went on to become celebrities in their own right.
1958 appears to have been the peak year for Kamera, when, the full 12 monthly issues were produced. In 1959 there were 11, there were 9 issues in 1960, 7 in 1961 and in 1962 only 6 issues seemed to have been produced. For 1963 through 1967 output was back to around eight. *
The success of Kamera also spawned the creation of a Kamera Calendar each year. The Calendars themselves became very popular and were regularly found hung up in garage waiting rooms, restrooms and workshops and today are sought after by avid collectors.

Born in 1944 of Irish parents and raised in Hampstead, London. After changing her name to Vicky Kennedy she quickly found work with Harrison Marks, who was already established as the top glamour photographer in the country and through his publications Vicky Kennedy, along with June Palmer and Pamela Green, became very popular the world over and appeared in numerous publications for Marks and others. Vicky, with her fantastic 41.24.36 figure, her blue eyes, blonde hair and pouting lips was the perfect fantasy in the magical Harrison Marks formula and along with appearances in such magazines as Parade she became much sought after for her glamour work.
Entering films in 1963, but 1964 saw her catapulted into the James Bond Film Goldfinger (1964) in the role of ‘Dink’, she was also ‘The golden girl’ in the title credits sequence.
Her roles in the “Carry On…” films is probably her best remembered work in cinema. Often cast mainly for her fabulous buxom figure and good looks, Margaret was perfectly cast in Carry on Girls (1973), and went on to make six more “Carry On…” films in various minor roles involving Bosoms!

There is no denying the obvious visual talents of the beautiful Pamela Green, one of the most popular of all the Harrison Marks models, but she was also a very talented artist. Her actual modelling career started in 1948 through a booking mistake as a figure model for the life class at St. Martin’s School of Art in London where she was a student on a three year course Fashion Drawing. At the time she only posed for the Costume and Fashion classes for which she was paid the princely sum of 4/6 (23p!) an hour.
She recalls – The day of my initiation into nude work happened by accident. I was called at short notice to fill in for a class where the model had failed to show up. The master was waiting impatiently. “Hurry up and get undressed, we’re late”. This was a life class. A quick look around the room showed me that the students were unknown to me as was the master. I thought “Well, there has got to be a first time”. I undressed behind the screen, and slipping on my coat walked to the rostrum. The master took my coat, helped me up and asked me to strike a pose. I stood facing the class, legs slightly apart with my weight on one hip. I have never felt quite so naked standing in front of about 20 students. After about 15 minutes I began to relax a little, everyone was concentrating on their drawing and by the end of the class it seemed the most natural thing to do. I collected my money from the office and discovered that I was paid more; five shillings instead of 4/6. I decided to begin modelling for the life classes and joined a small band of very young models who were all posing for the necessities in life, like their next meal. I was the eldest of the group at seventeen.*1
Pamela Green first met George Harrison Marks in the summer of 1953. George was a theatrical photographer and they met in connection with Pamela’s role in Bernard Delfont’s Folies Bergere which was running at the Prince of Wales Theatre at the time. It was Pamela who persuaded George to try his hand at nude photography. Between them, they created the famous glamour model, Rita Landre, who no-one guessed was actually Pamela in disguise. It was clear that George and Pamela were an excellent professional team. G Harrison Marks Limited was formed, George’s photographic expertise perfectly complemented by Pamela’s skilled costume and set design – a skill informed by her studies as a fine artist, at St Martin’s School of Art.*2
