A story about the sea lions of Kamchatka, reverent attitude to native nature, ecology, patriotism and good education.
In the Far East of vast Russia there is a small town - Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. And in this town located in the very center of Kamchatka peninsula, one of the richest regions of Russia, there is an unique nature attraction, of which the inhabitants of this town are rightly proud.
There are many sights in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, but one of them is truly unique - this is the only place in the world where wild sea animals - sea lions - settled next to human area, directly in the town limits.

A sea lion is the largest mammal of the seal family, they live in the Pacific Ocean, in its northern part, respectively. Kamchatka is just in the eastern edge of the population range of these animals.

In general, there are not so many of these animals left in wild nature, their population is decreasing due to many factors ... Frankly, there are very few of them left. And, it is quite natural that Russian government put these rare animals under protection - showing solidarity with other countries and international environmental organizations.

So, in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky there is a rookery of these most unique endangered sea lions! This rookery can rightfully be considered one of the main attractions of the town, along with magnificent roads, the harsh and majestic northern architecture of residential areas, and even the statue of Vladimir Lenin.

This statue has survived so many upheavals, but still proudly looking into the future, standing in the main square. But this story is not about Lenin, but about sea lions.

People of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky love their town. They are happy to walk along the spacious streets, enjoy the freshness of the ocean breeze, which is especially fresh if it blows from the direction of the fish factory…
Also, the inhabitants of this glorious place spend a lot of time in communion with nature. The features of this communication are expressed in the amount of illegally produced caviar, but I will not touch on this topic here, because I want to talk about sea lions. So the people of Petropavlovsk enjoy sea lions. After all, there is no such thing anywhere else in the world! It is enough to take a bus, get to Mokhovaya street, walk a bit and here it is - a real rookery of sea lions!

Here you can spend hours watching huge animals, freely spread out on cool pebbles washed by waves, watching their life flowing under the vigilant care and protection of Russian government.
Do not forget that the sea lion is listed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation, and their rookery in Petropavlovsk is not only under the care of the UN, WWF, Greenpeace and others, but is also carefully guarded by the cares of the local administration. This is not difficult to guess – just at the entrance a huge information board marks the beginning of the specially protected rookery territory, in the information board it is clearly written how to behave in this reserved place.

Even the laziest tourist will not refuse to have a look at the sea lions rookery! Indeed, you will not see this anywhere else in the world! All Chinese, Koreans, Japanese and Americans, not to mention a lot of local tourists, once being in Petropavlovsk, first of all run to look at the world-famous sea lions landmark. So many people from this place begin their acquaintance and love with Petropavlovsk.
And once in this natural zoo, so carefully cared for by humans, tourists are imbued with respect for those who spared no time and effort to make these endangered sea lions feel comfortable and safe (in other words that they die out faster).

Standing at the parapet separating the pedestrian zone from the territory of the rookery, watching the majestic sea animals, the happy and carefree rest of adult lions, being touched by the play of young puppies, Russian people are filled with pride for this huge great country, for this selfless and noble love and care that this country provides even to its most defenseless and small inhabitants!
