Kaity Tong is a Chinese-American beautiful broadcaster. She was born on the 23rd day of July in the year 1950 in a place called Qingdao in China. When she was four years old, her family moved to the United States of America and she was not to be left behind. Her parents changed their Chinese names to English names George and Anita Tong. They settled in Washington, D.C. where Kaity grew up. Her uncle Hollington K. Tong, who was also an ambassador to the US from China as well as an acclaimed author, is the one that inspired Kaity to become a journalist and he had to be mentioned in her biography. Interestingly, Kaity’s mother worked as a broadcaster cum producer for the famous Voice of America TV located in Washington, D.C.

Kaity got an academic scholarship and attended Bryn Mawr College. She was very hard working and successfully finished college, obtaining a Bachelors degree of arts with a specialization of English Literature. Later on she got admitted to Stanford University, one of the best universities in the USA to do her Doctoral program in Chinese and Japanese literature even though she wanted to teach English literature. She eventually finished her postgraduate studies which she worked hard for given that she was working on a very busy schedule at the same time.

Kaity began her career as a TV reporter with KPIX-TV in San Francisco. She worked there for three years starting at the year 1976 till 1979. Tong is so good that at the time she got hired there, her job was actually to be a writer. Little did she know that after an air test she would be promoted to become a reporter, even f it meant that she would hustle down the streets.

In December1979, Kaity joined KCRA-TV in Sacramento, California, as a co-anchor of the 5pm - 11 p.m. newscasts. Sooner than later, she was ranked on top of the list and was rated as the best out of all the television news personalities in Sacramento.

Later in the year 1981, Kaity Tong moved to a New York stationed TV station called WABC-TV. She co-hosted news with other big names in the industry such as Tom Snyder and Ernie Anastos.

She eventually became a solo anchor after her anchoring partner left the station. Her news was meaningful and informative, covering a wide scope of issues. Her firing from WABC-TV in 1991 shocked her fans and the word. It was unexpected and many reasons including her background and age were cited by different sources. The management of the Station however said her high salary was the reason for her dismissal.

In the year 1992, Tong got into WPIX and was undeniably the top female anchor. She still works there to date.

Kaity has starred in a number of movies as a newscaster like in the famous Spider man, Woolf, Lost Souls , the Manchurian Candidate, and many others.

Kaity Tong and her first husband Robert Long have a son together, Philip Long. Her husband was a director and a vice-president at other TV Stations. After their divorce, she married a photographer by the name Patrick Callahan. Rumor has it that she undergoes plastic surgeries to keep on looking young and beautiful. All the same, she is beautiful and has a good salary. In fact, she allegedly has a net worth of 4.5 million dollar.

Due to her exceptional performance, she has won several awards. She was even the first woman to be honored by Rotary International with their Paul Harris Fellowship. The New York Women’s Agenda also honored her with a Star award. She has further been recognized by the Chinese America Arts Council due to her outstanding excellence in communication. Other awards that she has include the Distinguished Woman award from the Chinese-American Planning Council, an Ellis Island Medal of Honor, a Champion of Excellence Award from the Organization of Chinese Americans and many more.

Kaity is a great news anchor that is never out fashioned for younger ones. Her ambition and determination that has earned her a lot of recognition is something rare that anyone and everyone should or would admire.

Kaity Tong, known for her professionalism, warmth, and quick wit, is one of the most popular local news anchors in the New York market. She anchors the Emmy Award- winning PIX 11 News at 5 and 10 on weekends.
Born in China, Kaity came to the United States with her family at age four. She grew up in Washington, D.C., and was inspired to become a journalist by her great-uncle, Hollington K. Tong, who was Ambassador to the U.S. from Nationalist China, as well as an acclaimed writer, and by her mother, who was a top broadcaster and producer for the Voice of America.
After graduating with honors on an academic scholarship from Bryn Mawr College with a BA in English Literature, Kaity had no clue what she wanted to do with her life, so she looked for the longest graduate program she could find, just to stay in school! Happily, she was accepted to Stanford University’s doctoral program in Chinese and Japanese studies.
It was while she was at Stanford that Kaity began her broadcasting career, by accident, getting what she thought would be just a summer job as morning editor and producer for KCBS All-News Radio in San Francisco.
The summer job turned into a year-long stint at the top all-news radio station in San Francisco. Kaity managed to complete her Masters in Asian Studies, but was sidetracked by the news business, and never completed her doctoral dissertation.
She began her television career as a reporter for KPIX-TV in San Francisco. Originally hired as a writer for the station, Kaity was asked to do an on-air test and was promoted on the spot to a street reporter, where her first report was on the “new” carts that carried people around the airport.
Shortly after that, Kaity was hired as the co-anchor of the number-one rated 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts on KCRA-TV, the NBC affiliate in Sacramento, CA. While at KCRA, her community service and involvement in local affairs was acknowledged by the United Way, the California State Legislature and the Sacramento City Council.
Two years later, Kaity was recruited by WABC-TV and moved to New York, where she began as a general correspondent and co-anchor of the “Weekend News Edition”, before co-anchoring the 5pm and 11pm newscasts. While at WABC, Kaity worked alongside news veterans Roger Grimsby, Bill Beutel and Tom Snyder.
After 10 years at WABC’s “Eyewitness News”, Kaity joined WPIX, where she co-anchored the 10 p.m. news for nearly 20 years.
Kaity joined Gloria Steinem and Beverly Sills in receiving the “Exceptional Achievement Award” from The Women’s Project and was the first woman honored by Rotary International with its “Paul Harris Fellowship.” She was also honored with a “Star” award by the New York Women’s Agenda.
Kaity has been recognized by the Chinese America Arts Council for her excellence in communication. She has received a “Distinguished Woman” award from the Chinese-American Planning Council and a Champion of Excellence Award from the Organization of Chinese Americans.
A naturalized citizen, Kaity is especially proud to have received the Ellis Island Medal of Honor for her work. She was recently honored by the popular website, Fabulous Over Fifty.
She is actively involved with the Children’s Museum of Manhattan, the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, the League for the Hard of Hearing, the China AIDS Fund, Plate to Plate, and Coalition for Asian American Children and Families, just to name a few.
